Many interesting info stations are waiting for you
along the way. They will be fun and you‘ll learn a
lot about torrents, protection forests, avalanches,
rock falls, and landslides.
The restaurant at the upper station of the
Schareck lift, the restaurant and at the
Kasereck, and the Tauernalm Inn are waiting for
you to stop by for some refreshment.
The Natural Hazard Trail, which is easy to
hike, starts at Heiligenblut and you get to the
Schareck peak either via Rossbach Middle Station
or via the Kasereck.

Protection forests represent the
most sustainable and economical
protection against various natural
hazards.
Come along with me to the mountain
forest above Heiligenblut and let me
give you some insights into this
fascinating habitat and its importance
for the people.
Berti Beaver
I will show you which natural hazards
are to be expected in the Austrian
Alps and how people can protect
themselves from these threats.
How are hazards connected with the
given natural phenomena and what
are the effects of human actions?
You’ll find the answers at the stations
along the trail.

At the Rossbach torrent you can
experience the power of water first
hand. Where the water comes from
and why it represents such an
enormous danger you will learn at
the stations. Try to control the
water current at the Rossbach
Middle Station!

In Austria, hazard zone maps are
being provided for every municipality
with torrents and avalanches. These
maps indicate the local hazard zones
with specific rules to be followed.
Experience a bird’s eye view of
Heiligenblut and learn more about
the hazard zones of the village.
Avalanches are the main danger on
Schareck mountain, you can see it in
the amount of protection structures.
The history of Heiligenblut is closely
linked with the impact of this natural
hazard. Follow me up to the peak, on
the way you’ll learn a lot about snow,
weather phenomena, and the formation
of avalanches.

With the increasing development
of mountainous regions, natural
hazards such as landslides, debris
flows and rock falls have become
ever more important.
At my interactive station you‘ll learn
how these hazards differ from each
other and how people can protect
themselves from disasters.
