Hi Everyone - Waiuku Business Association
COMMITTEE MEETING UPDATES, NEWS & MEMBER INFORMATION TO WBDA MEMBERS
Hi Everyone
having his car smeared with pies and
racial abuse to name a few. Hopefully
the installation of a couple of cameras
will stop these thoughtless acts from
occurring.
Well, no one can argue that
winter hasn’t arrived. I hope this Please remember that the Parking
email finds everybody healthy Discussion submission deadline is due on
and happy all be it, a little chilly. the 31ST July. Although you may think that
I
am happy to report the upgrade on
the CCTV camera systems has been
completed which not only gives
better memory storage and brings
both systems in line but also stops the
cameras from having to be constantly
reset which is great.
Please
remember if you see any
suspicious activity to note
down the date and time and
let me know and I can look
into it.
I
know
we
still
have an issue with
young
people
hanging
around
River
lane
and
especially behind
Richa rd son’s
Jewellers and the Waiuku Village
Butcher so I am currently applying for
funding through Local Board to have
that area fitted with CCTV cameras.
Unfortunately
the
Queen
Street
Superette is being targeted on a regular
basis and this has to be stopped. The
latest incident was his car being keyed
on Wednesday.
Previous incidents
range from their wheelie bin and large
rubbish bin being thrown down the hill,
this is not relevant to Waiuku, it actually
is. This is the perfect time to make your
feelings known about how you want
Waiuku parking to be managed. Do we
want paid parking meters, if so where
do you want that money to go to, do we
need more parking wardens and do we
want longer or shorter parking times?
This is your time to give feedback. I
have included their objectives and
questions they are wanting feedback
on in the following
article.
The
Information
Centre has had a
bit of a revamp and
move around over
the past couple of
weeks and is looking
great. Please feel free
to pop in and have
a look around. Also
remember to keep us
to up to date on any
promotions,
events
or new brochures,
etc. so our volunteers
are able to advise
the community and
visitors coming to the
town.

FRIDAY 4TH JULY 2014
I have had a couple of complaints about
businesses that have their nice clean
recycle bins switched on recycling day
and left with an old smelly dirty ones.
This is really annoying for the businesses
that keep their bins inside their shops.
They not only smell terrible but look
really grotty. Please ensure once bins are
empty you take your own bin and not the
cleanest one in the pack.
The WB&DA, under their lease agreement
with Auckland Council Properties for
#2 Queen Street pay for 13 car parking
spaces around our building. I am sure
you can understand our frustration when
we can’t find a park for our own staff and
volunteers. For this reason, in the not
too distant future we will have 5 signs
that will be erected on the back of our
COMMITTEE MEETING UPDATES, NEWS & MEMBER INFORMATION TO WBDA MEMBERS
building and Auckland Transport will be
painting reserved on the spaces. Please
do not park in these spaces as you will be
asked to move.
Auckland Parking
Discussion Objective
Please remember the upcoming events,
the Blast to the Past on Saturday 4th
October and the Christmas Parade on
Saturday 11th December. Please let me
know if you wish to have a stall at either
of these events or would like to have a
float in the parade.
“Your success
helps many people,
your failure helps
no one!”
In closing, please note that the Mix n
Mingle hosted by the Shires for the 7th
July has been cancelled due to unforeseen
circumstances.
Think about the above statement
before you settle for anything
less than success. Realise your
success is more than just personal
ambition, it is your responsibility.
Have a lovely weekend.

of transport and land use outcomes.
Good parking management is vital
for the safe and efficient operation
of the road network, supporting the
economic development of Auckland’s
City Centre, town and business centres
as well as increased public transport
use. The projected growth in population,
employment and economic activity
in Auckland will increase competing
demands on the road network, including
parking. This Discussion Document
outlines the key issues relating to parking
in Auckland and seeks feedback on the
suggested approaches to address them.
It takes into consideration current

management of: on-street and off-street
parking in Auckland’s City Centre and
other business centres; parking on
arterial, local roads and residential streets;
and park and ride facilities to support
public transport and meet demand. The
approaches suggested in this document
are intended to provide the overarching
framework to guide customised responses
to parking supply and management that
reflect local characteristics. Feedback on
the Discussion Document will assist the
development of a Parking Strategy, which
will be included in the next Integrated
Transport Programme, due for completion
in mid-2015.
The key issues identified in relation to
parking across Auckland have been
grouped into the following areas:
• Managing demand for parking in the
City Centre, metropolitan and town
centres
• Competing demands for parking in
residential streets
FRIDAY 4TH JULY 2014
• Managing off-street parking facilities
• Inconsistent on-street parking

arterial roads and improving public
transport provision
• Managing the demand for parking
permits amongst competing users
• Addressing the shortage of park
and ride facilities to support public
transport patronage. Existing parking
policies reflect the objectives from
legacy councils and the Auckland
Regional Council and require
rationalisation and reassessment.
A proposed parking strategy for Auckland
is necessary to reflect the intent and
outcomes of the Auckland Plan, proposed
Unitary Plan and the Regional Public
Transport Plan and to provide an
integrated approach.

March 2014 online sales show growth up
9% on March last year. A quarter of this
growth came from Groceries, Liquor and
Specialised Food. Clothing continues to be
strong however the specialist Daily Deals
sector is continuing to experience declines.
Further in March nearly two thirds of
the online spending growth since March
last year has come from purchases at
international merchants.
These two months of retail online spend
are starting to show some interesting
trends on our online shopping habits
NZers spending online between domestic
and international merchants shows an
international dominance in Newspaper
and Book category and Other Specialised
Food which represents specialised food
lines and includes health supplements.
