Locarno, zusammen mit dem kleineren und
nahen Ascona, darf man ruhig als Perle des
Lago Maggiore bezeichnen. In schöner Lage
und begünstigt von einem milden Klima sowie
einer üppigen, subtropischen Pflanzenwelt,
rühmt sich diese Kleinstadt einer touristischen
Tradition, die auf die Zeit der Römer zurückgeht.
Während des Filmfestivals, das Locarno
zu internationaler Bekanntheit verholfen hat,
verwandelt sich die Piazza Grande in einen
offenen Saal, wie er wohl auf der Welt seinesgleichen sucht. Und sie bietet viele weitere
kulturelle und künstlerische Alternativen.
Allein der Besuch der Altstadt, mit ihren
typischen Restaurants und unzähligen kleinen
Läden mit den unterschiedlichsten Waren,
würde bereits eine Reise rechtfertigen. Aber
ebenso wunderbar ist ein Ausflug auf Cardada,
den Berg mit seinen waldreichen Abhängen,
die Locarno umgeben. Mit der Drahtseilbahn
geht man zuerst zur Wallfahrtskirche der
Madonna del Sasso, eine grossartige auf
Felsen erbaute Einsiedelei, dann steigt eine
andere Seilbahn weiter bis nach Cardada.
Die durchsichtige, vom Architekten Mario Botta
geplante Kabine gewährt einen atemberaubenden Rundblick auf die darunter liegende
Stadt und den See. Vom Gipfel erreicht man
zu Fuss die Aussichtsplattform und findet sich
plötzlich dem Monte Rosa gegenüber, der
sich im Kranz der ihn umgebenden Alpengipfel
erhebt. Kulturell Interessierten bietet das
städtische und archäologische Museum im
Castello Visconteo eine permanente Ausstellung zur Archäologie des Locarnese von der
späten Bronzezeit bis zum Hohen Mittelalter
sowie eine bedeutende Sammlung von Gläsern
aus der römischen Epoche. Oder die Gemein-
de-Pinakothek in der Casa Rusca, in der die
verschiedenen Legate und Schenkungen
bedeutender Künstler zu bewundern sind, unter
ihnen auch die Schenkung von Jean und
Marguerite Arp.
Wer die Umgebung von Locarno besucht,
erlebt eine wunderbare Natur: Von der subtropischen Landschaft längs der Seeufer bis hin
zur alpinen Welt der Berggipfel rund herum.
Mit dem Schiff, das von Locarno, längs dem
Gambarogno und dem Linken Ufer des Lago
Maggiore entlang fährt, erreicht man die
herrlichen Brissagoinseln. Dort schmückt sich
im Frühlung der berühmte botanische Park, Ziel
zahlreicher Touristinnen und Touristen, mit
Tausenden von schillernden Farben, die aus
den grünen Wassern des Sees hervorstechen
wie ein wertvolles Schmuckstück. Fährt man
dem rechten Ufer entlang, kann man Brissago
und Ronco bewundern, um schliesslich in
Ascona an Land zu gehen. Das hübsche
Städtchen seit jeher Ziel von Künstlern und
Intellektuellen internationalen Rufs, beherbergt,
in seinen Gässchen Museen und Kunstgalerien,
Modeboutiquen und Antiquariate, Restaurants
und Hotels, für jeden Geschmack. Die Kulturveranstaltungen auf dem Monte Verità wie auch
das nunmehr berühmte New Orleans Jazz
Festival, ziehen jedes Jahr zahllose Besucherin-

nen und Besucher an, die, von den Schönheiten des Ortes angetan, oft “Habitués” werden.
Locarno ist von vier Tälern umgeben: dem
Centovalli (Tal der hundert Täler), dem Onsernonetal, dem Maggiatal und dem Verzascatal.
Das ebenso anziehende wie mysteriöse Centovalli heisst so, wegen seiner unzähligen kleinen
Seitentälchen, deren Flüsschen sich in den
Hauptfluss Melezza ergiessen. Entdeckt werden kann es mit dem Auto, dem Fahrrad oder
mit der “Centovallina”, dem Zug, der den
Kanton Tessin mit Italien verbindet und zwar von
Locarno bis Domodossola.
In Cavigliano, am Eingang des Centovalli, zweigt
die Strasse nach dem Onsernonetal ab. Die oft
überraschende Strecke, welche die verschiedenen Dörfer des Tales miteinander verbindet,
zeigt spektakuläre Ausblicke auf eine Landschaft, die das Attribut “grandios” verdient:
friedlich und atemberaubend zur gleichen Zeit.
Dank der weitgehenden Abwesenheit von
Durchgangsverkehr, herrscht im Tal heitere
Ruhe, Besucherinnen und Besucher werden
bald von tiefem Frieden erfüllt. Hier gibt es keinen Massentourismus, da die Anzahl Gästezimmer in den kleinen von Familien geführten
Hotels, in den Pensionen, in den Berggasthäusern und in den Herbergen glücklicherweise
beschränkt ist.
Worin besteht die touristische Attraktivität des
Maggiatals? Zweifellos in den unglaublich
vielen Variationen von Landschaften, Lagen
und Begebenheiten, die in den ungefähr
3000 Metern Höhenunterschied zwischen dem
Taleingang in Ponte Brolla und der höchsten
Stelle, dem Basodinogletscher, enthalten sind.
Eine geschichtsträchtige Region, seit Jahrtausenden von Menschen bewohnt und durch-
reist. Das Maggiatal umfasst einen Fünftel des
ganzen Kantons Tessin und wird jedes Jahr von
Tausenden Touristen besucht. Für jene, welche
die Schmuckstücke dieses subalpinen Tals sehen wollen, sind einige Ziele bereits klassische
Rundgänge geworden: die Kirche der Madonna
delle Grazie in Maggia, der Platz und das Museum in Cevio, Bosco Gurin – das höchstgelegene Walserdorf des Kantons, in dem man
heute noch einen deutschen Urdialekt spricht –
wo man im Winter Ski läuft, das Bavonatal mit
dem Wasserfall von Foroglio und dem Gebiet
von Robiei, und das Lavizzaratal mit Fusio und
Mogno, dem winzigen Ort, dessen Kirchlein der
Architekt Mario Botta entworfen hat. Nicht zu
vergessen ist sein Fluss, dessen Wasser an
Sommertagen ein zum unvergessliches Eintauchen oder einfach zu einem Augenblick des
dolce far niente an seinen Ufern einlädt. Und
um diesen Tag zu beenden, gibt es nichts besseres, als einen Aufenthalt in den typischen
Grotti der Region, um deren Spezialitäten zusammen mit einem guten Glas Merlot zu
geniessen. Zwei Schritte von der Stadt entfernt
finden wir das Verzascatal: das Tal der grünen
Gewässer. Dies ist nicht ein Werbeslogan,
sondern zu allen Jahreszeiten eine Tatsache.
Sein Fluss, wild und herrlich, scheint die Farbe
der Wälder seiner Ufer aufgenommen zu
haben. Im Verzascatal sind die Spuren der
Vergangenheit und der Gegenwart, der
menschlichen Einfälle und Eingebungen
harmonisch längs der ganzen Strecke verteilt:
vom beeindruckenden künstlichen Damm beim
Taleingang, 220 Meter hoch, und durch den
Sprung von James Bond im Film Goldeneye
berühmt geworden, zum “Ponte dei Salti” in
Lavertezzo, zu den zahlreichen Kirchen und
Kapellen in den Dörfern und längs der vielen
Wege, zu den Häusern aus dem typischen
Stein des Tales. Im Verzascatal leben die Natur
und die Geschichte, die Einwohner und die
Gäste in einer unverdorbenen Umgebung.

Fahrtechnisch sehr anspruchsvolle
Tour durch das untere Valle Maggia.
Von Maggia aus fährst du teils über
den Wanderweg und teils über die alte
Strasse talaufwärts nach Someo.
Hier überquerst du die Maggia über
eine 380m lange Hängebrücke.
Auf der anderen Flussseite erwartet
dich ein fahrtechnisch sehr anspruchsvoller Single Track hinab nach Lodano.
Über ein wenig befahrenes Strässchen
gelangst du nach Moghegno und
schliesst die Tour zurück nach Maggia.
Die Tour bietet zwar keine besonderen
Aussichtspunkte über das Tal, glänzt
jedoch mit den vielen alten, ursprünglich
und gut erhaltenen Dörfern, Steinhäusern und Kapellen entlang der Strecke.

Tour durch das wunderschöne obere
Valle Maggia.
Von Prato Sornico fährst du auf der
wenig befahrenen Hauptstrasse
hinauf nach Veia, von wo du über einen
technisch einzigartigen Single Track
die erste Schlaufe zurück nach Prato
Sornico schliesst. Die zweite Schlaufe
führt dich talabwärts nach Broglio
und von dort hinauf nach Monti di Rima.
Hier erwartet dich ein wunderschönes
Panorama über das Tal und eine weitere
technisch tolle Abfahrt zurück zum
Ausgangspunkt.

Einfache Tour zum unteren Flusslauf
der Melezza und hinaus auf das MaggiaFlussdelta am Lago Maggiore.
Von Ascona fährst du hinauf zum Monte
Verità, von wo du über einen geteerten
Waldweg hinauf nach Arcegno gelangst.
Auf einem schmalen Strässchen fährst
du wieder hinab nach Golino zur
Melezza. Entlang dem Flussufer fährst
du für 8 km auf dem schönen
Wanderweg hinaus auf das MaggiaFlussdelta und via Nebenstrasse
zurück nach Ascona.

Sehr anspruchsvolle Tour von Ascona
hinauf zum wunderschönen Bergdörfchen Rasa im Centovalli. Von Ascona
fährst du über ein Bergsträsschen hinauf
nach Monti di Ronco. Mit wunderschöner
Aussicht über den Lago Maggiore wechselst du über den Bergkamm ins Centovalli. Eine steinige, anspruchsvolle Abfahrt führt dich nach Rasa. Das ursprünglich erhaltene Bergdörfchen kann nur mit
einer kleinen Gondelbahn oder über den
Wanderweg erreicht werden. Ein sehr
schwieriges Teilstück mit einigen kurzen
Tragepassagen führt dich hinab nach
Bordei, wo du auf einem Asphaltsträsschen hinab ins Tal gelangst. Kurz
nach dem Palagnedra-Stausee führt
dich die schmale Kantonsstrasse
mit unzähligen Kurven nach Intragna.
Entlang dem Flussufer fährst du auf dem
Wanderweg hinaus auf das MaggiaFlussdelta und zurück nach Ascona.

Extremtour hinauf zum Monte Tamaro mit grossartigem Panorama über das südliche Tessin
und den Lago Maggiore. Von Vira/ Magadino
fährst du auf der Hauptstrasse nach Quartino,
von wo du über den alten und steilen Saumweg
zum Monte Ceneri gelangst. Der Weg hinauf
zum Monte Tamaro ist besonders im oberen
Teil sehr kräftezehrend, belohnt dich aber
bei der Capanna Monte Tamaro mit einer der
schönsten Aussichten über das Tessin.
Nach den über 1700 Höhenmetern beginnt die
erste, sehr technische Abfahrt hinunter nach
Inde-mini. Nach einem kurzen Alphaltstück
überfährst du die Grenze nach Italien und
biegst bei Biegno in den letzten Aufstieg hinauf
zum Passo Forcora ein. Nochmals erfährst du
ein wunderschönes Panorama über den Lago
Maggiore und das Valle Veddasca, bevor
du die sehr steile Abfahrt hinunter nach Zenna
unter die Räder nimmst. Mit teilweise über
30% Gefälle sollte dieser lange Abschnitt nur
von sehr gut geübten Bikern befahren werden.
Auf der Seestrasse gelangst du anschliessend
zurück zum Ausgangspunkt.

führt an zahlreichen natürlichen Schönheiten und an einigen Landwirtschaftsbetrieben der Magadino Ebene vorbei,
die geradezu zu einem Zwischenhalt

Ab Locarno fährst du auf dem Fahrradweg bis nach Tenero dem Seeufer
entlang, und von dort auf der Kantonsstrasse in Richtung Valle Verzasca.
Bei dieser Route sind keine speziellen
technischen Bike-Kenntnisse
notwendig, dafür aber eine mittelmässige Kondition. Zahlreiche typische
Tessiner Gegebenheiten sind auf
der Strecke zu sehen: von den klaren
Seeufern des Lago Maggiore bis
zum typischen smaragd-farbigen Fluss
Verzasca, die Weinreben bei Gordola,
der eindrückliche Staudamm anfangs
des Valle Verzasca, als auch die
bekannte Brücke «Ponte dei Salti»
bei Lavertezzo.
