The 1930 sale catalogue at Hermann Ball/Paul Graupe Berlin is inventoried under no. 13.3_1338 and shows markings for lot 35, the present item. Further, an annotation in the catalogue indicates that the items came from the Czeczowiczka collection in Vienna, which is corroborated by the fact, that this family experienced some financial problems and had to sell part of their collection in 1930. It is not clear if Hildebrand Gurlitt acquired the work directly at the sale in 1930 but a note found among Cornelius Gurlitt’s papers suggest that this is a possibility as all the details for the sale were listed including the sale price plus the buyer’s premium.
