SPECIAL EXHIBITION:
Feathers make the bird
Of singers, carrion and dive bombers
Who wouldn’t want to enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the world?
With their ability to fly, birds are symbolic figures between heaven and earth, between
freedom and independence. Beginning with their plumage, its special functions and
forms, the visitor encounters natural history questions as well as cultural themes
relating to birds. The “giants” of the Liezen district, which we now see ever more
frequently – such as the bearded and griffon vultures – are also included in this exhibition, along with numerous other species. The mysterious world of birds is depicted in
cultural and natural-history contexts, with important questions with regards to nature
preservation and new research also playing an interesting role.

Description:
The Nickel Museum is a giant walkable “showcase” housing a permanent exhibition
which impressively documents the mining tradition of the Schladming region. The
central focus is on the processing and subsequent use of nickel, formerly and even
now a highly sought-after metal. Traces of the past leave a lasting impression on visitors, while the extraordinarily dangerous work of the miners becomes clearly evident.
The imp, whose name happens to be “Nickel”, also injects extra life into the exhibition
for kids, motivating them to conduct their own follow-up investigations.

From the Riesach car park, the alpine trail through the “Höll” takes you via a series of
stairways and paths and over a suspension bridge, alongside the Riesach Waterfall to
the Gföllalm on the Riesachsee. Riesach Waterfall is the tallest waterfall in Styria. This
trail does require you be sure-footed and not have any dizziness issues, and from the
suspension bridge on is not suitable for dogs or small children.
Im p o r t a n t In fo & Ti p s :
We recommend taking the hiking bus on nice days, since the car park has only limited
space. The “Wild Waters” theme trail begins in Schladming and leads through the wild,
untamed Talbach Gorge to Untertal. You can get on and off buses at numerous stops
along the way. Also an exciting experience in gloomier weather. Bus tours must collect
and present their Sommercards as a group.

1. All kinds of puzzles await you at the 9 stations along the hiking path from the
Berghof to the Hochsitz. If all 9 puzzles are correctly solved and entered on the
treasure map, you will have the combination to open the locks on the treasure chest
on the Hochsitz, which contains a small prize for everyone!
2. Explore nature with your own bare feet at 19 different stations. A “touching” and
unique experience for the senses. This trail – about 700 metres long – makes its way
via flat switchbacks to the summit cross of the Riesner Krispen at 1922 metres above
sea level.
3. UNIVERSUM Riesneralm – a curious and inspired exhibition for the whole family.
Awaiting you is a collection of the broadest variety of “incredible” objects from our
Alpine and animal world. And you’ll also get to decide for yourself whether various
historical events, myths and extraordinary reports from across the world and the
region are real or fake. But that’s all we’ll tell for now...!
4. tierHOLZpark – fantastic kids’ attraction, unique in all of Europe. An animal park of
a very special kind, a remarkable setting and also the highest of its kind – the brandnew highlight for kids, located in the famous Riesneralm ski area. Over-sized animals
made of native materials are sure to astonish both children and their parents. Anywhere from 3–4 meters in height, the inside of each animal also serves as a playhouse
for kids. Picture books and the tierHOLZpark quiz provide a playful way for the kids to
learn about fox, badgers, chamois, deer, grouse etc. All of the animals are placed near
the Hochsitz and Berghof, making them easy for the whole family to reach.

Description:
The Museum of Poaching is unique in all of Europe, providing us with an original
presentation of the history of poaching in the Alpine region. The historical and social
background is documented, as are the punishments which awaited poachers, the fates
of specific poachers and the legendary Poachers Battle of Molln. Based on the ideas
of famous cultural historian Roland Girtler, this exhibition also shows the kitschy
depiction of poaching in old movies, novels and songs, as it does a number of original
poaching weapons.

(Bonus Services), which are also compiled in this same brochure.
Scope of Services/Liability Disclaimer
All Sommercard partner establishments listed in the brochure in question have obligated themselves to make available to holders of the Sommercard all of their advertised
Sommercard services, both with regards to time and quantity, in accordance with and
with respect to their own general conditions of carriage and business, this during
their usual hours of business and to their full extent. Holders of the Sommercard
understand and accept that the operating times of some partners, primarily due to
weather- or season-related circumstances, are not always identical with the full time
frame of the Card season. With some business, there may be long waiting times due to
capacity-related reasons.
The holders of a Sommercard declare their agreement with the listed opening times,
any and all access restrictions, as well as with the maximum capacity as stated by
participating establishments. Holders waive any and all damage claims when, whether
for operational reasons, or due to no fault of the service provider, the services offered
cannot be provided, either in part or in whole. Furthermore, the service providers are
liable for gross negligence and premeditation, but not for slight negligence. In addition, no liability exists for any accompanying clothing or other accompanying valuables.
Holders of the Sommercard furthermore understand and accept that the ARGE
Schladming-Dachstein Card is entitled to end its agreement with the individual Card
service providers if there is important cause to do so, even during the current season.
No claims of whatever kind may be asserted as a consequence of such action.
Conditions for Issue of the Sommercard:
The participating lodging establishment is obligated to draw the guest’s attention to
the Sommercard, regardless of the length of his stay. A guest staying at a participating
lodging establishment receives the Sommercard from his host for the length of his
stay. Precondition for issuance of the Sommercard is that the guest, in accordance
with legal statutes, has registered with the establishment for the duration of the stay.
The Sommercard must be signed on the reverse side by the guest, at which point the
Card becomes valid.
Non-Transferability/Loss
The Sommercard is non transferable. The Sommercard is only valid when accompanied
by a photo ID. The Sommercard may only be used by the person whose name and
identification number are noted on the Card or stored on the chip. In the event that
the Sommercard is not utilized, no reimbursement will be made. Should the Card by
lost, the holder will be charged € 3.– for issue of a new one. A lost Card immediately
becomes invalid.

Children
Small Children: As per the rate schedule for the 2009 season, “Small Children” are
those persons born in 2004 or later.
Usage
To receive the benefits of the Card, the Card holder must present his Sommercard.
The service provider will check the Card with respect to validity and identity, either
with authorization equipment, or merely by visually checking the Card details with
regards to Card number and the name of the holder. The Card holder is obliged to
present a valid photo ID if so requested. Failure to do so may result in his being
denied full services.

Liability Disclaimer with respect to the ARGE Schladming-Dachstein-Card
Holders of the Sommercard accept and understand that the Dachstein-Tauern Regional Association and the ARGE Schladming-Dachstein-Card are solely responsible for
the transaction between holders of the Sommercard and the service providers and the
participating lodging establishments.
Holders of the Sommercard waive any conceivable claim with respect to warranty or
damages against the Dachstein-Tauern Regional Association or the ARGE SchladmingDachstein-Card, regardless of whether the service provider or participating lodging
establishment is blamable for damages or not. Let it be clearly noted that – in so far as
it may come to an incident of liability – neither the ARGE Schladming-Dachstein-Card
nor the Dachstein-Tauern Regional Association is liable for such damages, the more so
since neither the service providers nor the participating lodging establishments are
adjuncts of the Dachstein-Tauern Association.
Similarly, holders of the Sommercard may assert no claim for damages against the
ARGE Schladming-Dachstein-Card or the Dachstein-Tauern Regional Association
in the event that any services listed in the brochure are not discharged by partner
businesses.
Jurisdiction
For all disputes resulting from use of the Sommercard, as well as any claims with
respect to damages or warrantee, let it be so stipulated that exclusive jurisdiction is
held by the responsible Schladming courts and that solely Austrian laws will apply.
Validity
The Card season for 2009 extends from 29 May until October 26. The Sommercard is
valid during this time period. Important: The Card remains the property of its holder,
it is not a disposable card. The holder should retain the Card and bring it back on his
next vacation, or (except in the event that there are technical innovations) re-credit
and use the Card next season. The integrated chip allows the Card to be reactivated
in future.
