BUSINESS SITUATION

Rogers Geotechnical Services Limited
are site investigation specialists
offering site investigation, geotechnical
and environmental services to a large
number of industries. Following
a period of rapid and sustained
expansion, the RGS management
team identified a number of areas that
would benefit from improvement. The
efficiency of their laboratory reporting
methods and communication between
field staff and laboratory were two
areas identified for improvement.

The Laboratory Manager previously
spent a large portion of her day
entering sample information and test
results into Excel spreadsheets. All of
the sample information had already
been logged by the engineers on site
and so was a duplication of effort. At
the end of testing, all test data was
rekeyed into HoleBASE SI or Excel so
the engineers could analyse it, again
duplicating efforts.

ensures our processes run smoothly, are able to
react to our recent expansion and development
and allow us to feel equipped for any future
developments and growth

THE SOLUTION
By using both HoleBASE SI and KeyLAB
together, RGS were able to save
time and money whilst reducing the
likelihood of errors that double entries
present.
The RGS engineers first of all log
their samples into HoleBASE SI. They
then use the HoleBASE SI scheduling
features to electronically transfer
sample and scheduling data to KeyLAB
enabling the Laboratory Manager to
check and issue laboratory worksheets
automatically.
KeyLAB provides the Laboratory
Manager with an overview of all
current samples and tests to enable
better management of workload
and laboratory and staff resources.
RGS now also avoid any problems of
multiple project names or sample
mismatches occurring between
departments. Once a project has been
approved, data is sent electronically
back to the engineers to allow faster
interpretation of the results within
HoleBASE SI.
THE BENEFITS
The implementation of KeyLAB
alongside HoleBASE SI has allowed
RGS to plan their workloads even
more efficiently; ensuring they hit all
of their deadlines and has streamlined
the Engineering/Laboratory crossover
for data. This new way of working has
reduced double entry of sample and
test results which minimises the risk
of duplication errors and has saved
significant time and money.
KeyLAB is also assisting towards the
UKAS Lab Accreditation and is aiding
with more effective compliance with
ISO 9001 accreditation, which is already
in place.
Within a couple of days of receiving
KeyLAB training, RGS were using
KeyLAB effectively, putting all jobs
through it within 2 weeks and have
entered 450 samples through the new
system within the first 4 months.
The software now assists with
management of workload, resource
management and calibration
schedules, in addition to the
engineering/laboratory project
crossover for data.
