For your protection, the CLX 4100TM Series product has been tested for conformance to various national
and international regulations and standards. The scope of this regulatory testing includes electrical and
mechanical safety, electromagnetic emissions, immunity, acoustics and hazardous materials. When
required, approvals are obtained from third party test agencies. Approval marks appear on the product

Recycling Compliance
Waste, Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Statement (European Union and
National Derivations)
The European Union (EU) Waste, Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
Directive places an obligation on all EU-based manufacturers and importers to
take-back electronic products at the end of their useful life for reuse or recycling. At
Clustrix, we recognize the importance of minimizing the environmental impacts of
our products. We endeavor to meet your needs, not only when you purchase and
use our products, but also when you are ready to dispose of them. Clustrix is
actually pursuing, and will continue to pursue, the expanded use of environmentally
friendly materials in all its products, and this is why we have established a
convenient and environmentally friendly recycling program. The Directive requires
that the WEEE symbol (i.e. shown on the right) is labelled on products placed on the
market after August 13, 2005. This symbol will be on Clustrix products and
packaging, which indicates that this product must NOT be disposed of with other
waste.
The WEEE Directive is being implemented in each of the 27 EU countries through national legislation.
Norway and Switzerland have also implemented similar pieces of legislation. As a result, the detailed
requirements vary considerably throughout the EU, and the Clustrix WEEE compliance approach varies
among countries. In each country affected by the WEEE legislation:

Materials
Perchlorate Material – Special Handling May Apply
This product contains a CR (Maganese Dioxide) Lithium coin cell battery that may contain perchlorate
and may require special handling when recycled or disposed of in California.

Lithium Battery Caution
The CLX 4100TM Server contains a lithium battery. This battery is not a field-replaceable unit.
There is a danger of explosion if the battery is incorrectly replaced or handled. Do not
disassemble or recharge the battery. Do not dispose of the battery in fire. When the battery is
replaced, the same type or an equivalent type recommended by the manufacturer must be
used. Used batteries must be disposed of according to the manufacturer's instructions. Return
the Server to Clustrix for battery service.

ESD Hazards and Handling Precautions
Some CLX 4100TM Series components are susceptible to damage from static electricity. You can
generate static voltages as high as 35,000 volts just by handling plastic or foam packing material or by
sliding an electronic assembly across plastic or carpeting. Failure to exercise proper electrostatic
discharge precautions can result in intermittent or complete failure of components.
•
Wear an ESD wrist strap or two heel or ankle straps whenever handling or unpacking
assemblies.
•
Ensure that the ESD strap makes good contact with your skin and that the other end of the
strap is secured to a proper earth ground source. Prior to chassis installation, the strap
should be connected to a known-good ground, such as a previously grounded rack or a
portion of the building’s ground conductor. Make sure the ESD strap’s connector is in good
contact with bare metal.
•
Check the resistance of all ESD straps periodically. The resistance measurement should be
between 1 megohm and 10 megohms. If the resistance is not within this range, replace the
ESD strap..
•
Do not remove circuit modules and other assemblies from static-shielding packaging until
you are ready to install them.
•
Do not allow circuit modules to come in contact with clothing. The antistatic strap only
protects the module from ESD voltages on your body; ESD voltages on clothing can still
cause electronic component damage.
•
When circuit modules are not in their antistatic packaging and are not installed in a chassis,
always place them on an antistatic surface, in an antistatic storage device, in a
static-shielding bag, or in the original shipping container.
•
Whenever you remove a circuit module from a chassis, immediately place it in a
static-shielding bag or the original shipping container, even if the module is defective and
you are returning it.
•
Always use the ejector handles on the module faceplates to lock circuit modules into the
chassis. The ejector handles help to ensure that the circuit modules’ connectors are fully
seated in the midplane connectors.
•
When installing or removing circuit modules, avoid touching any part of the module except
the ejectors and faceplates. Never touch the connectors on the circuit modules.

Verpackungsmaterial wie Plastik und Schaumstoff oder durch das Verschieben einer elektronischen
Baugruppe auf Plastikunterlagen oder. Teppichböden entstehen. Nichtbeachtung der erforderlichen
Antistatikmaßnahmen kann zu vorübergehenden oder vollständigen Ausfällen der Komponenten führen.
•
Tragen Sie stets ein Antistatik-Armband oder zwei Knöchel-oder Fersenbänder, wenn Sie
Baugruppen handhaben oder auspacken.
•
Achten Sie darauf, daß das Antistatikband guten Hautkontakt hat und daß der
Bananenstecker des Antistatikbands vollständig in die ESD-Anschlußbuchse am Chassis
eingestöpselt ist. Vor Installation des Chassis kann der Bananenstecker auch an eine
leitfähige Masse angeschlossen werden, beispielsweise an ein bereits geerdetes Rack oder
an einen Teil des Erdungsleiters des Gebäudes. Achten Sie darauf, daß ein guter Kontakt
zwischen dem Anschlußstecker des Antistatikbands und einem blanken Metallteil gegeben
ist.
•
Prüfen Sie den Widerstand der Antistatikbänder von Zeit zu Zeit. Der Widerstand sollte im
Bereich von 1 bis 10 Megaohm liegen. Ersetzen Sie Antistatikbänder, deren Widerstand
außerhalb dieses Bereichs liegt.
•
Nehmen Sie Schaltmodule und andere Baugruppen erst unmittelbar vor der Installation aus
ihrer Antistatikverpackung.
•
Achten Sie darauf, daß die Schaltmodule nicht mit Kleidungsstücken in Berührung kommen.
Das Antistatikband schützt das Modul nur vor statischen Aufladungen an Ihrem Körper.
Aber auch Ihre Kleidung kann statische Ladungen führen, die die elektronischen
Komponenten beschädigen können.
•
Wenn die Schaltmodule sich nicht in ihrer Antistatikverpackung befinden und nicht in einem
Chassis installiert sind, legen Sie sie stets auf einer antistatischen Oberfläche, in einem
Antistatikbeutel oder in ihrem Originalversandbehälter ab.
•
Wenn Sie ein Schaltmodul aus einem Chassis entfernen, legen Sie es sofort in einen
Antistatikbeutel oder in den Originalversandbehälter, auch wenn das betreffende Modul
defekt ist und zurückgesandt werden soll.
•
Benutzen Sie stets die Auswurfgriffe auf der rechten und linken Seite der Modulfrontplatten,
um die Module vollständig in das Chassis einzusetzen. Dadurch können Sie dafür sorgen,
daß die Anschlußstecker des Moduls vollständig in den Anschlußbuchsen an der
Rückwandplatine einrasten.

Achten Sie bei Ein-oder Ausbau von Schaltmodulen darauf, daß Sie die Module nur an den
Auswurfgriffen und Frontplatten berühren. Berühren Sie niemals die Anschlußstecker an
den Schaltmodulen.
Lifting Precautions
Before installing the CLX 4100TM Series, ensure that your site is set up properly so you will not
have to move equipment later to provide direct access to power sources and network interface
connections. Whenever you lift or move any heavy object, observe the following precautions:

Enlist the assistance of a second person when lifting the object; do not attempt to lift the
object by yourself.
Secure your footing when lifting the object; balance the lifted weight between your feet.
Lift the object slowly; avoid making sudden movements or twisting your body as you lift.

Keep your back straight and lift with your legs. If you must bend down to lift the object, bend
your knees to reduce the strain on your lower back, and avoid bending at the waist only.
Always disconnect all external cables before lifting or moving equipment.

Soulevez l'objet lentement ; évitez de faire des mouvements brusques ou de tordre votre
corps quand vous soulevez.
Gardez votre dos droit et soulevez avec vos jambes. Si vous devez vous pencher en avant
pour soulever l'objet, pliez vos genoux pour réduire la contrainte sur le bas de votre dos.
Evitez de vous plier uniquement à la taille.
Débranchez toujours tous les câbles externes avant de soulever ou de déplacer
l'équipement.

Vergewissern Sie sich vor Installation der Baureihe CLX 4100 TM, daß der Installationsort
ordnungsgemäß vorbereitet ist, so daß Sie die Geräte später nicht verschieben müssen, um sie
an das Leitungsnetz und Netzschnittstellen anschließen zu können.

Beachten Sie stets die folgenden Sicherheitshinweise, wenn Sie schwere Gegenstände
heben oder verschieben müssen:
Versuchen Sie nicht, einen schweren Gegenstand allein zu heben, sondern holen Sie stets
eine zweite Person zu Hilfe.
Heben Sie stets aus sicherem Stand; die Füße sollten mit der ganzen Fußsohle auf dem
Boden stehen. Das Gewicht der Last sollte gleichmäßig auf beide Beine verteilt sein.
Heben Sie die Last langsam an, meiden Sie plötzliche Bewegungen und verdrehen Sie nicht
den Oberkörper, während Sie die Last heben.
Halten Sie den Rücken gerade und heben Sie aus der Hocke. Wenn Sie sich
herunterbeugen müssen, um die Last zu heben, gehen Sie in die Knie, um unnötige
Belastungen des Rückens zu vermeiden. Heben Sie die Last nicht mit gestreckten Beinen
und gekrümmtem Rücken.
Bevor Sie Geräte heben oder transportieren, vergessen Sie nicht, alle externen Kabel
abzuziehen.
