2
bedanken.
so gut schmeckten.
Zum Schluss möchte ich allen Mitgliedern, die
unsere Klubveranstaltungen unterstützen, danken
und ich wünsche allen recht „Frohe Ostern“.
Phil Neidert
Präsident
The Concordia Choir and the Enzian Dancers
provided entertainment. Here, also, Betty and I
would like to thank President, Werner Schlueter,
and the Concordia Club for our invitation and
for the enjoyable evening.
Next up was our “Schlachtfest” on March 21st,
and what an evening this was. A complete full
house, thanks in part to the “Alliance of German
Clubs Bowlers”. They combined their banquet
with our “Schlachtfest” and it would appear that
this was very successful for everyone. I hope
that everyone enjoyed the evening and the food
as did I. Well done Kitchen and Serving Staff,
you did us proud.
Also, a special thank you to all those ladies who
gave of their time and talent to again help to prepare and bake all those delicious donuts for us
to enjoy.
In closing, I thank all members for supporting our Club’s functions and I wish everyone a
“Happy Easter”.

President’s Report for April
As I am writing my report, I am enjoying the sunshine through our sunroom window. Dreams of
golf and green grass are going through my head.
The snow is gone and yes, we are grateful that
we did not have to truck it away like last year.
Our Club saved a lot of money.
The month of March has been a very busy
time for Betty and I. On March 7th, we were
invited guests at the Transylvania Club. They
were celebrating “Trachtenfest” and “Wahl der
Miss Transylvania 2009”. The evening was
a complete success. Almost everyone was in
“Tracht”, a packed house, good food and the
“Kameraderei” was enjoyed by all. The new
Miss Transylvania is Miss Danielle Fritsch.
Betty and I thank President, Fred Lowrick, and
the Transylvania Club for our invitation and for
the enjoyable evening.
On March 14th, Betty and I were invited to attend
the “President’s Ball” at the Concordia Club.
This “Gala” is a highlight at the Concordia,
with their former presidents and many invited
guests, both political and others in attendance.
Manager’s Report
“What’s Going On” April 2009
There is always something going on at the
Schwaben Club. Bookings are coming along
quite nicely and it is good to see that we are
keeping busy. The Club is becoming a very popular place to be with members and non-members. From Weddings, Stag & Does, Concerts,
Dances and Dinner Shows.
Our Schlachtfest was a great success and this
year we had the Bowling League join us for the
celebrations. The home-made donuts were a
great success.
We again had a Dinner Show featuring the
“Beach Bums”. Although attendance could
have been better, a good time was had by all
who attended.
There are an awful lot of good things happening
here – so make it a point to join us for the upcoming festivities.

The Schwaben Dancers bring back the Stick Dance and Kreuz
Bowling Bonanza
Over 120 participants!
Representing 6 different clubs!
All coming together to battle it out for the most coveted prize available!
That’s right! On Saturday, March 21 was the annual German Canadian Bowling Association Club
Championships. Bowlers representing Brantford,
London, St. Catherine’s, Brampton, Concordia
Club and Schwaben Club, all congregated in
Kitchener to see who the best was. And boy did
people have fun along the way.
With the actual bowling being scattered in 5-pin
bowling alleys throughout Kitchener-Waterloo,
bowlers couldn’t actually find out how well they
were doing compared to others until they all came
together at the Schwaben Club later in the evening
for the dinner, trophy presentation, and dancing.
And we are very proud to announce that the
Schwaben Bowlers did very well this year, taking home many of the awards. Both the men
and the ladies won the Championship for the
“A” division.
The Ladies’ team consisted of
Helga Hill (nee Peller), Rosemarie Gellner, Katie
Kraehling, and Sharon Minard. The Men’s’ team
members were Siegfried Speckner, John Hild,
Joe Vandermolen, and Jason Vandermolen.
Individual awards went to: Rosemarie Gellner
for Low Score in the Ladies “A” division (hey,
it is a great honour to win that cute little skunk
trophy!), Helga Hill for 1st High Triple, Sharon
Minard for 1st High Single, John Hild for 1st High
Single, Jason Vandermolen for 2nd High Single,
and Joe Vandermolen for 2nd High Triple.
All in all, it was a wonderful success. We offer
a heartfelt congratulations to all the people that
came out and participated, to those that won
trophies, and wish them the best of luck for the
rest of the season.

Update
March was a great month for our little dancers.
We had lots of time to practice and each week the
children are improving. We also had four new
dancers join and almost everyone performed at
our latest event, Schlachtfest! It is great to see so
many out to take part in our heritage.
On Sunday, May 3, 2009 our group has been
invited to participate in Kinderfest held in
Mississauga. We look forward to showcasing our
talent. This great event will allow our children to
experience other forms of dance and culture.
Spring is in the air, and everywhere around us
things are changing to show their true beauty. A
similar plan is active with the club as well. And
with all this new life and better weather, comes
our continued dream of upgrading the outside
of our club. And this is a dream that is thankfully being shared by many others, judging by all
the donations that have been made. And we are
very thankful for each and every one, and hope
that those out there that haven’t donated yet
were only waiting for warmer weather to warm
their hearts into making their donation.
On a more technical side, contractors have already begun submitting tenders, so we have a
clearer idea as to what sort ot total we are aiming for. That number will be shared at a later date
when we have finalized on one that we can share.
So, in summary; things are moving ahead nicely, and more pieces are falling into place every
day. That doesn’t mean we get to relax. We still
need many more donations to reach our goal,
so please keep giving. This will be a wonderful
addition to our club, and we hope all of you will
donate and become part of history.
Thank you.
The Commemorative Garden Committee
Another big decision our group has made is to
make new outfits. We have decided to keep our
tradition and make new trachts. We currently
have 7 made and in late spring we will begin the
process of making new ones for those dancers
returning in September. Our hope is to have
them all completed for our trip to Detroit for
Tag der Donauschwaben.
We hope to see you at the Schwaben Dancers
Social held Sunday, April 26, 2009.
Reminder: Practice for Kindergruppe is
Thursday’s at 6:30pm. If you are interested in
our Kindergruppe or Jugendgruppe, please feel free
to contact me for more information.

The Schwaben Dancers:
Busy Fundraising
The Schwaben Dancers are focused on going to
Germany next year, and will be working hard to
raise money throughout this year. We are having
a social Bake Sale Fundraiser on April 26th in the
Schwaben Hall, from 2-5pm, where we will have
more information about our trip to share with
everyone. The Kindergruppe and Schwaben
Dancers will be performing, and we will be selling coffee, tea and many delicious desserts. It will
be a great opportunity to find out more about our
trip. We look forward to seeing you there!
Schlactfest was a great event this month. The
Schwaben Dancers preformed four dances, and
had some new members of the group performing
dances for the first time. Great job to all of our
dancers! Part of our fundraising at Schlactfest
included raffling off meat that was donated to
our dance group by Pillers. It was a very successful night. A big Thank you goes out to Pillers for
your wonderful donation of meat.
Thank you as well to everyone that contributed
to the raffle.
