Die hier vorliegende A rb e it b aut auf dem 5-dim ensionalen
H yperw ürfel auf, eine Struktur, die sich aus achtzig Kanten
(Linien) zusammensetzt. Eine G ru p p e von zw anzig Linien
w ird aus dieser Struktur so ausgew ählt, daß sich jeweils vier
Linien aus jeder der fünf „Dim ensions-R ichtungen" ergeben.
Jede „D im ensions-R ichtung" besteht d a h e r aus vier
parallelen Linien, die sich hier, als drei dünne und eine
dicke Linie, in einem durch die 5-dim ensionale Rotation b e ­
stimmten Richtungswinkel, präsentieren. Eine erste Serie von
A rbeiten zeigt die zehn kom binatorischen 2-dim ensionalen
Projektionen einer festgelegten 5-dim ensionalen Rotation,
mit dieser G ru p p e von zw anzig Linien.
In einer w eiteren Serie von A rbeiten (a b g e b ild e t in diesem
Katalog), die alle auf d e r oben beschriebenen G ru p p e von
zw anzig Linien aufbauen, hat jede A rb e it eine unterschied­
liche, durch den Zufall bestimmte, 5-dim ensionale Rotation
und 2-dim ensionale Projektion. Die rigorose Systematik von
„R ota tion" und „P roje ktio n " ist ein w ich tig e r Bestandteil des
innovativen Prozesses d e r Zeichenentwicklung.
The w o rk presented here is based on a 5-dim ensional hyper­
cube, a structure consisting o f eighty edges (lines). A sub-set
o f tw enty lines is chosen from this structure by selecting fo u r
lines from each o f the five "d im e n sio n a l-d ire ctio n s".
Each o fth e fiv e "d im e n sio n a l-d ire ctio n s" is show n, therefore,
by fo u r parallel lines, represented here as three thin lines and
one thick line w ith a slope determ inted by the 5-dim ensional
rotation.
In one g ro u p o f w orks, a series o f d ra w in g s show the ten
co m b in a to ria l 2-dim ensional projections w ith a fixed
5-dim ensinal rotation o f this sub-set o f tw enty lines.
In a second g ro u p o f w orks (reproduced in this cata log),
all dra w in g s are based on the sam e sub-set o f tw enty lines,
but each one has a different arb itra rily chosen 5-dim ensinal
rotation and 2-dim ensional projection.
The rigorous system o f "ro ta tio n " and "p ro je c tio n "
is an im p o rta n t part o f the innovative process in
developing signs.
