RINALIA ABDUL RAHIM
Rinalia A. Rahim is Founder and Managing Director of Compass Rose Sdn Bhd. From 2001-2008, she was
Executive Director of the Global Knowledge Partnership. Rinalia currently advises the Malaysian Government on
its ICT policies and programs, and is a Council Member of the Wawasan Open University. She has held advisory
positions with the United Nations, the World Economic Forum, the Global Action Networks (GAN-NET), the
International Task Force on Women and ICT, and the Youth Social Enterprise Initiative. Rinalia holds a Master in
Public Policy Degree from Harvard University and a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Princeton
University.
HOSSAIN ALI RAMOZ
Hossain Ali Ramoz is a well-known democracy and human rights activist with broad experience in civil society
building in Afghanistan. Hossain was the Executive Director of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights
Commission from February 2005 to 2008. As a democracy activist focused on building a democratic Afghanistan,
he worked as the Deputy Country Director in the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, and is the
first Chair of the Free and Fair Elections Foundation for Afghanistan, a position he has held since 2002. He is a
founding member of four important civil society groups in Afghanistan: Afghan Civil Society Forum (ACSF),
Foundation for Culture and Civil Society (FCCS), Free and Fair Elections Foundation of Afghanistan (FEFA), and
Women in Politics Network. He has appeared on important national and international
media on Afghanistan and world politics for interviews such as: BBC TV and Radio, CBC TV, Radio Free Europe, and VOA.
SURYANI SENJA ALIAS
Suryani Senja Alias is the Senior Vice-President, Investments at Khazanah Nasional, the Malaysian Government’s
investment arm, where she is currently embarking on investment projects in the Creative sector as well as an urban
rejuvenation project for a UNESCO heritage area in Malaysia. She also served at the policy unit of the Prime
Minister’s office as a Special Officer to the Prime Minister of Malaysia and she was instrumental in leading the
Khazanah Merdeka Series project, a nation building project which involves documenting Malaysia’s development
and organizing lectures by global thought leaders. She recently co-edited and published “Readings on
Development: Malaysia 2057, Uncommon Voices, Common Aspirations” for Khazanah. Previously, Suryani
practiced international law at the United Nations in Geneva and at a law firm in London, UK after a stint at a
French investment bank. She later became the Group General Counsel of AirAsia before joining Khazanah. She specialized in international
law for her Masters degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK. Suryani is a trustee and Acting Chair of Yayasan
Tuanku Nur Zahirah, a foundation committed to improve lives through the preservation and promotion of Malaysian heritage under the
patronage of HRH the Queen of Malaysia.
FAIYSAL ALIKHAN
Faiysal AliKhan is the Senior Advisor Public Policy for DHL Pakistan. He is an Executive Director of the PESCO
Group, which is involved in trading, consulting in the energy sector (primarily oil and gas), transportation and contract
logistics. He is a member of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and chair of their Customs and Trade
Regulation Commission. He is also a member of the National Trade and Transport Facilitation Committee (NTTFC)
and the Transport Commission of Pakistan. Faiysal founded FIDA (www.fidapk.org), a development organization
based in Pakistan's Frontier and Tribal Area. The organization is focused on rural development, sustainable livelihood
and engaging disenfranchised youth. He is currently serving on the board of the Rural Support Programmes Network
(RSPN) and is an active member of a number of their steering committees.
Faiysal studied Sustainable Agriculture and Third World Development at Hampshire College in Massachusetts. He graduated from the
University of Kent, Canterbury in the UK where he double majored in Business Administration and Politics.

NIRET ALVA
Niret Alva is the President of Miditech. Niret has had a long and distinguished career as reporter, presenter, anchor
and director. He began his stint in TV journalism with PTI TV as a reporter in 1988. After the rough and tumble
of reporting Indian politics, he started Miditech with his brother, Nikhil Alva, in 1992. As President of Miditech
and with over a decade’s experience in media, he is a widely known media professional with several national and
international awards to his credit, including Asian Television Awards for best anchor, and best infotainment
program. As the creative head of the company, he has supervised several highly successful shows (such as Indian
Idol, Fame Gurukul, Wheels, Hospital, Commando, Top Drive, Style, Saara Akash) that have
driven the TRPs of mass entertainment channels. He has also written and produced award-winning documentaries for the international
market.
SUTAPA AMORNVIVAT
Sutapa Amornvivat is Executive Vice President and Head of Risk Analytics and Research Group at TMB Bank
in Thailand. Prior to joining TMB, she was Economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington,
DC. Sutapa has served as Advisor to the Thai Senate Committee on the Economy, Commerce, and Industry, as
well as Director of Macroeconomic Analysis Section at the Thai Ministry of Finance. She has lectured at various
universities in Asia including Hitotsubashi University, the Indian Institute of Technology, Chulalongkorn
University, and the National University of Singapore. She conducted research on cross-regional
economic/financial sector issues at the World Bank, the US Department of Justice, and the Harvard Institute for
International Development. Sutapa holds an undergraduate degree in Applied Mathematics from Harvard
University and a PhD in Economics from MIT. She is a recipient of Thailand's most prestigious King's Scholarship, awarded to topscorers in an annual nationwide competition. Among numerous rewards, she was honored Working Woman of the Year in 2004.
NURUL IZZAH ANWAR
Nurul Izzah Anwar is the M.P. for the Lembah Pantai constituency since winning the seat in the historic 2008
Malaysian General Elections and serves as the Head of her party's (People's Justice Party) division in Lembah
Pantai. She has been a very active participant in Malaysia's political scene since 1998, following her father's
dismissal as Deputy Prime Minister of the country. Her interest in international affairs, specifically in the
Southeast Asian region, developed from her experiences in campaigning for greater political and civil rights
following her father's political imprisonment. She has attended many conferences abroad including the 55th and
56th Human Rights Commission in Geneva (2000, 2001), the Youth and Democracy Forum in Sweden (1999),
and the NDI's International Leaders Forum in Boston (2004), and has worked extensively with many nongovernmental organizations in the Southeast Asian region. She holds a Masters degree, specializing in Southeast Asian Studies from the
School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University.
PAOLO BENIGNO “BAM” A. AQUINO IV
Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino is Co-Founder and President of MicroVentures, Inc., a social business
enterprise that services microfinancing organizations and their clients. In 2007, he joined the board of
Rags2Riches, Inc., another social business enterprise that helps underprivileged women with livelihood
projects. Prior to these entrepreneurial activities, Bam was Chairman of the National Youth Commission
(NYC), the main youth policy-making arm of the Philippine Government, from 2003 to 2006. As such, he
was the youngest person in Philippine history to head a government agency. He hosted Breakfast and Yspeak
for a number of years, two shows focusing on the youth that aired on ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation's
Studio 23. His latest show, Start-Up, a show for budding entrepreneurs, currently airs on the
ABS-CBN News Channel. Bam is also the President of the TAYO (Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations) Awards Foundation, the
country's premier youth award-giving body for youth groups. His first publication, Young Southeast Asia, a book that focuses on young
achievers in the region and commissioned by the ASEAN, is currently available in bookstores in ASEAN member countries.

KATE ARMSTRONG
Kate Armstrong is Founder and President of CLAN (Caring & Living As Neighbours), an Australian-based, not-forprofit, non-governmental organization committed to the rights-based goal of helping children who are living with
chronic medical conditions in resource-poor countries of the world enjoy the highest quality of life possible. CLAN
identifies groups of children with the same chronic medical conditions as belonging to non-geographically based
communities, and then utilizes a strategic framework for action (the five pillars) to promote community development,
multi-sectoral partnerships and long-term, sustainable change. Founded in 2004, CLAN now collaborates with
partners in Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines and Pakistan, helping children with diabetes, congenital adrenal
hyperplasia and autism, with regular requests to expand action across countries and conditions. Key achievements to
date are the inclusion of medications within the World Health Organization’s Essential
Medicine List for Children, translation of educational resources into multiple languages, microfinance trials and recognition by peak
bodies of CLAN's contribution to the health of children in the Asia-Pacific region.
STEVE LAURENCE M. ARQUIZA
Steve Laurence M. Arquiza is a distinguished Mindanaoan Youth Leader, who has always been active at the forefront
in promoting the vital role of the Filipino Youth in nation-building. In 2002, Steve was chosen by the National Youth
Commission (Philippines) as one of the ambassadors to the 29th Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program, an exchange
program sponsored by the Japanese Government. As one of the conveners and now, the incumbent president of the
Mindanao Young Leaders' Parliament, he lobbied for discussions of key issues that may affect the Filipino Youth.
Among these are Federalism, Charter Change, Peace Advocacy, and localization of the Medium-term Youth
Development Plan set for his country and its youth today. In 2004, he was elected President of the 5th National Youth
Parliament, a biennial assembly of youth leaders convened by the National Youth
Commission. Having consolidated and organized various student confederations and organizations, he was cited as the Most Outstanding
Youth of the Philippines in 2001 by the Personnel Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP), Most Outstanding Club President
by Gawad (Ateneo de Davao University's Official Award-giving Body), and SAMAHAN Central Board Leadership Award (The Official
Student Council of the University). This year, Steve received the Most Outstanding Member Award from the Junior Chamber International
Philippines. He was sent by the US Department of State as a Visiting Scholar to the Northern Illinois University, De Kalb, Illinois to study
and expand the concept of "Civic Engagement and Participation in the Philippines." Steve received his bachelor's degree in Business
Administration at the Ateneo de Davao University in 2002 with triple majors (Management, Finance, and Marketing) and his Masters
degree in Public Administration with a specialization on Government Administration in 2004 at the same university.
JUMAATUN AZMI
Jumaatun Azmi is the Founder and Managing Director of KasehDia Sdn Bhd, a niche communication and
consultancy firm focused on the application of Islamic concepts. Under Jumaatun’s leadership, the company has
created world renowned events and publications and consulted the government on Halal matters. KasehDia
Consultancy was involved in the drafting of the Halal Chapter of Malaysia's 3rd Industrial Master Plan after being
appointed as consultant by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry in 2006. It also developed the initial
framework of the Halal Industry Development Corporation for the Malaysian Prime Minister's Office. Jumaatun
is the Editor of The Halal Journal, a trade publication on the Halal industry currently distributed in over 35
countries. She also founded the award winning Halal Food Guide series which to date has covered eight countries.
Jumaatun other accomplishments in the related industry include the creation of The World Halal Forum, Halal
Journal TV, Halal Journal Award, Halal Restaurant Awards and the Halal Journal Workshop
Series. Due to her prolific and cutting edge work, Jumaatun has been featured in various international mainstream media including the
Asia Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, International Herald Tribune and Bloomberg. She holds a degree in Communications
(Honors) from the University of Hartford, Connecticut, USA.
ANALISA LEONOR BALARES
Analisa Leonor Balares is CEO of Womensphere, a media group and leadership community. For over two
decades, Analisa has been committed to women's leadership development, entrepreneurship, innovation,
sustainable development, and education. Analisa was formerly Global Marketing Manager for Microsoft's
blogging and social networking service. In this role, she managed the global marketing launch of Windows Live
Spaces in over 30 countries, and led the strategy and execution of Spaces projects around branding, partnerships,
events, and online community development. Analisa began her career as an analyst at the Goldman Sachs High
Technology Investment Banking group. She is the founder and co-chair of The Lyons
Network, a leadership and career mentoring organization for young women. Through The Lyons Network, Analisa has led the
organization of regional conferences on leadership, innovation, and entrepreneurship for young women in New England. She was

recently selected by the New Leaders Council as one of its 40 Under 40 New Leaders Award winners. Analisa holds an MBA from Harvard
Business School; a BA in Economics & Mathematics from Mount Holyoke College; and an International Baccalaureate diploma from
Lester Pearson United World College of the Pacific.
SATCHIT BALSARI
Satchit Balsari is an emergency physician at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, and Fellow at the Harvard
Humanitarian Initiative (HHI). His work is focused on the development of pre-hospital care, emergency medicine
and the application of information technology to promote citizen-driven disaster mitigation and response. He
oversees two multi-institutional web-based public health applications: projects mumbaiVOICES.com and
EMcounter.com. Seventeen days before the November 2008 terror strikes in Mumbai, Satchit co-organized
Mumbai's first inter-agency disaster drill focused on medical response (www.mumbaiEMEX.org). Also an avid child
rights advocate, he has investigated and published on child labor in the embroidery industry in Mumbai, and
worked in rehabilitation programs for children affected by natural and humanitarian crises. He served as a consultant to the American Red
Cross after Hurricane Katrina. Satchit now divides his time between the US and India, where he serves on the managing committee of the
Times Centre for Disaster Management at Mumbai University, and as guest editor for SouthAsiaDisasters.net. Satchit received his training
at Mumbai's Grant Medical College, and at Harvard, Columbia and Cornell Universities.
JOCELLE ESCALANTE BATAPA-SIGUE
Jocelle Batapa-Sigue is the City Councilor for the Local Government of Bacolod City in the Philippines, and is an
advocate of women’s and children's rights, environmental protection and youth empowerment. She believes in
utilizing all her talents and knowledge to provide a competent and forceful voice to sectors which are mostly
unheard or neglected. After a few years of private law practice, she ran for public office as a local legislator in
Bacolod City where she proved that she can win despite her lack of party affiliation and financial resources. For
11 years, she served as law professor of the University of Saint La Salle and served in top positions with
internationally-affiliated organizations such as the Toastmasters International, Girls Scouts of the Philippines,
Soroptimist International and Philippine Mental Health Association. She is active in media work since her first job as television reporter
at age 19. She authored significant ordinances on climate change issues and championed the use of CFL's as well as clean energy. Her
major feat is helping generate 7,0000 jobs as a result of her campaign for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for her city
which made it one of the top cities in the Philippines for IT-outsourcing. As chair of the Gender and Development Council since 2004,
Jocelle implemented numerous projects to uplift the situation of women and children.
ESTHER T. BENJAMIN
Esther Benjamin was recently appointed Associate Director of Global Operations of the United States Peace Corps
for the Obama Administration. She also served on President Obama's National Security Transition Team following
the 2008 US elections. She has worked on global development in over 75 countries. Esther was previously
Executive Director for Resource Development at the International Partnership for Microbicides, a global
biotechnology organization. She was Vice President of Business Development at the International Youth
Foundation and a management consultant with Grant Thornton. In 1999, President Bill Clinton appointed Esther
a White House Fellow. She also served as United Nations Humanitarian Officer in Somalia and worked on the
Brookings Institution's publication entitled "The World Bank: Its First Half Century." She is a member of the
Board of Directors of Echoing Green. Esther holds graduate degrees from American University in international
affairs and economics. She is a trustee of North Central College, where she earned her bachelor's degree in
political science and English.
RAJ BHAVSAR
Raj Bhavsar is an Indian-American artistic gymnast, whose most recent athletic accomplishment was winning a
bronze medal for the United States at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Raj has represented the US as a National Team
member for 10 years, has two world championship silver medals, and created two skills in the sport of gymnastics
which are now named after him. In May 2009, Raj was presented with the South Asian Excellence Award in the
field of sports. He recently traveled to India where he worked with the Indian National Gymnasts, and is currently
aspiring to boost awareness about Olympic-level sports in India. As an Olympic sports ambassador, he enjoys
speaking to kids about the importance of exercising body and mind, and is involved with
several charitable organizations such as The Children's Miracle Network, The Make a Wish Foundation, and Daya. He recently

performed gymnastics with the Helen Keller Institute's own dance troupe in India alongside Bollywood choreographer and philanthropist
Shiamak Davar. Raj received his Business Administration degree from Ohio State University, where he was an NCAA champion and 10time All American.
WEN BO
Wen Bo is Pacific Environment's Beijing-based China Program Co-Director. He is a founder of the China Green
Student Forum, Xinjiang Conservation Fund, and Wuhu Ecology Center. He was a journalist at China Environment
News from 1996 to 1998, and studied for a certificate course at the Center for Environment Education in India in
1997. Wen Bo attended a six-month visiting program with the National Committee on US-China Relations in the US.
In 2000, he set up a Greenpeace office in Beijing, and is currently on the China Advisory Board of Global Greengrants
Fund to facilitate the growth of environmental communities in China. He was a PEW Fellow on marine conservation
from 2009-2011 and a World Economic Forum's Young Global Leader Honoree 2009. Wen Bo graduated from
Zhongnan University in 1994 and China School of Journalism in 1996, and earned his Masters degree in international
relations at KDI School of International Policy and Management in Seoul, South Korea.
ARNEL PACIANO CASANOVA
Arnel Paciano Casanova is the Executive Director of the Asia Society Philippine Foundation, Inc. Prior to that, he was
General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority, where he worked on
some of the biggest public infrastructure and real estate property development projects in the Philippines. As a peacenegotiator, he was one of the youngest recipients of the Philippine Legion of Honor Medal for his work in drafting the
General Peace Agreement between the government and the military rebels and the rebels' disarmament and
reintegration. He was likewise involved in the initial stages of negotiations with the Moro Islamic
Liberation Front (MILF). He is a graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Law, serving as the College Representative to
the University Student Council. As a Mason Fellow and a World Bank Scholar, he graduated from Harvard University’s Kennedy School
of Government with a Masters degree in Public Administration. He pursues his passion in social entrepreneurship in the Philippines and
Asia as one of the founders of AvantChange, a social enterprise, established at the Harvard Kennedy School, by being a visiting lecturer
at the Ateneo De Manila University School of Government, teaching a course on Social Entrepreneurship. As a governance advocate, he
is also a member of the core group of Kaya Natin! Movement, a citizen’s movement in the Philippines advocating ethical and effective
leadership.
ANDREW CHAN
Andrew Chan is an executive director with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Advisory Services, Malaysia. He has
played an instrumental role in growing PwC's consulting practice from a 10-person team to over 100 today. Andrew
worked for many years in London where he gained significant experience in strategic, operational and change
management issues with Gemini Consulting, now part of Cap Gemini. Since then, he moved to Malaysia where he
now heads the Sustainability Solutions practice across Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, which helps
companies in the region respond to the growing corporate responsibility agenda. His work includes a project to
improve engagement with the indigenous people deep in the heart of east Malaysia. In his own time, Andrew is an
active volunteer - his efforts, including building homes in northern Mongolia as part of his involvement with the
Habitat for Humanity international program, have won him PwC's Citizen Award which recognizes those who have
made a difference to the community and country. Andrew holds a Masters of Engineering, Economics and Management degree from the
University of Oxford.
PREMESH CHANDRAN
Premesh Chandran is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Malaysiakini.com, an independent news media organization in
Malaysia. Malaysiakini has been recognised through various awards and accolades including from the International Press Institute,
Reporters Sans Frontiers, the Committee to Protect Journalists, Asiaweek and Businessweek. Malaysiakini is also the only media
organization in Southeast Asia nominated to the prestigious World Economic Forum's International Media Council. Besides Malaysiakini,
Premesh regular speaks and teaches about the business of new media. Premesh previously worked as a journalist and a labor researcher.
Apart from Malaysiakini, his passions include corporate social responsibility, social entrepreneurship, human rights and campaigning for
local elections. He holds a degree in Physics and a Masters degree in International Studies.

HOLLY CHANG
Holly Chang is the Founder and CEO of Golden Bridges Foundation, a Beijing-based nonprofit that strengthens
grassroots NGOs focused on alleviating poverty, solving environmental problems, and improving lives for thousands
of migrant children, orphans, and other marginalized populations in China's emerging third sector. Holly previously
worked as a Plant Engineer at UPS on time-sensitive projects with budgets up to US$1billion. In late 2005 after
Hurricane Katrina, she left her corporate career and joined the Red Cross as a disaster-relief volunteer. By 2008,
Holly had sold her home and belongings, moved to China, and invested her life-savings to start Golden Bridges to
channel philanthropic capital, volunteer expertise, and cross-sector resources to empower nonprofit leaders to build
high-performing, trust-worthy organizations. With a long-term approach, she is designing programs that promote the
growth of a healthy, vibrant and peaceful civil society in China. Holly holds degrees in civil
engineering, psychology, and an MBA.
AYUSH CHAUHAN
Ayush Chauhan is the Managing Director of Quicksand Design Studio in Gurgaon, India. After his engineering studies
from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and a management education from the Indian Institute of Management,
Ahmedabad, Ayush joined a private sector bank as part of the team structuring banking innovations for Indian rural
markets. Convinced about the value and a much richer approach to solving that design thinking brings, he cut short
his search for an appropriate graduate program in design, to instead co-found Quicksand - a design collective that
would provide consultancy services for user-centered innovation. Since its inception in 2005,
Quicksand has worked in areas that span social enterprise innovation, new product development for reaching out to the bottom of the
pyramid and corporate engagements to build more meaningful products, services and brand experiences. Ayush has led Quicksand's
engagement with global foundations & multi-lateral agencies such as UNDP, USAID, PATH, International Youth Foundation and
corporations like Google, Cisco and Ideo. Quicksand today comprises a passionate team of film makers, designers, photographers, social
researchers, technologists and business managers, making it one of its kind in India and amongst a handful of organizations worldwide
pushing for a new approach to business and social innovations. Quicksand has also incubated several independent, new media ventures
such as Blindboys (http://blindboys.org - a South Asian photography webzine) and BLOT (http://blottin.blogspot.com - a new media
electronic music & visual arts performance group).
CALVIN CHIN
Calvin Chin is the Founder and CEO of Shanghai-based Qifang, China's leading online student loan service and
the first company from China to be named a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer. Calvin is a serial
entrepreneur who has over 10 years of experience in start-ups in New York, Silicon Valley, and Shanghai. Calvin
also advises and gives talks to companies, entrepreneurs, and students on start-up strategy, management,
fundraising, and marketing. Calvin has an MBA from TRIUM (NYU, LSE, HEC Paris) and a BA from Yale
University.
H.S. CHO
H.S. Cho is the Senior Vice President at the Corporate Strategy Center at Hyosung Group. He is a Member of the
Management Committee (Hyosung Group’s Supreme decision making board) and a Member of the Board of
Hyosung Group’s several subsidiaries (in charge of Group’s Key Decision Making/Strategic Planning/Operations).
His past experience includes Consultant, Bain & Company, Tokyo/Seoul. In this role, he executed many Asian
MNC’s cases. He also served as a Manager at NTT Communications Corporation (largest Telecom in Japan, Tokyo).
As a regular participant of the World Economic Forum, he has also been selected as a member of the “Asian Young
Leader’s Forum” by the Korea/Japan Foundation (2005). He graduated with a BA in Economics from Brown
University/Yonsei University. He is fluent in Korean, English, and Japanese. He is an enthusiastic
lover of sports, traveling, photography, and gastronomy.
KATHERINE CHON
Katherine Chon is the Co-Founder and President of Polaris Project, a Washington, DC-based nonprofit organization
combating modern-day slavery. Katherine has worked closely with survivors of labor and sex trafficking through
victim identification and service provision. She has testified before Congress to advocate for stronger policies on
human trafficking and has provided training and consultation to numerous government, corporate, and community
organizations. Her professional interests also include the role of civil society in democratic governance. Katherine

received the DO Something Brick Award for Social Entrepreneurship in 2004, Brown University's John Hope Award for Community
Service in 2007, and was a fellow with the Center for Social Innovation (CSI) at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. She graduated
with honors from Brown University with a BS in Psychology. Katherine is currently pursuing a Mid-Career Masters in Public
Administration degree from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
PAUL CHONG
Paul Chong is a management consultant for Booz & Company. Previously an investment banker in Beijing, Paul
moved to Sydney, Australia, in 2008 to pursue his two passions; Sports Administration and Sustainable

Paul continues his involvement with sports development through being a Director of the Special Olympics, New
South Wales, and Vice President of University Sports New Zealand. Paul graduated with a 1st Class Honours
degree from the University of Otago where he was the first Student President of Chinese descent. Currently, Paul
is taking a three-month break from consulting to conduct an internship in sustainable development at the Asian
Development Bank Institute in Tokyo.

Steve Woo-Sung Chung is the Chief Strategy Officer for CDNetworks, Inc., a publicly traded company on Korea's
KOSDAQ providing Internet content delivery network (CDN) services, which is Asia's #1 provider. He is responsible
for corporate strategy, M&A and the company's global businesses in the US, Europe, Japan and China. Previously,
Steve was a venture capitalist for BlueRun Ventures in Silicon Valley, a $1 billion venture capital fund initiated by
Nokia. Prior to that, he was the COO for Pan Media Corporation in Beijing and analyst for Goldman Sachs in NY.
He received his A.B. from Harvard and his MBA from Stanford.
JOHN DAVID CIORCIARI
John David Ciorciari is an assistant professor at the University of Michigan. His teaching and research focus on
diplomacy and international law, primarily in an Asian context. Before arriving in Michigan, he was a National
Fellow at the Hoover Institution (Stanford University), where he coordinated the Global Markets Working Group
and co-edited a book entitled The Road Ahead for the Fed. In 2007-08, he was a Shorenstein Fellow at Stanford's
Asia-Pacific Research Center. From 2004 to 2007, he was a policy official in the US Treasury Department, serving
most recently as the Deputy Director of the Office of South and Southeast Asia. John has also served since 1999 as
a legal advisor to the Documentation Center of Cambodia, which promotes memory and justice with respect to the
Khmer Rouge tragedy. John was also a 2003-04 Visiting Research Fellow at the Rajaratnam School of
International Studies in Singapore and an attorney at the law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell from 1997 to 2000. John has an AB from
Harvard College, JD from Harvard Law School, and MPhil and DPhil in International Relations from the University of Oxford.
VERONICA COLONDAM
Veronica Colondam is the Founder and CEO of Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa (YCAB, which translates as "Loving
the Nation's Children Foundation"), an independent non-profit, social foundation. It was founded out of concern for
the drug abuse problem among the youth in Indonesia. With the objective of saving the lives and minds of Indonesia's
youth, YCAB provides education, raises awareness and ensures primary prevention of narcotics abuse. Veronica
initiated the YADA (Youth Against Drug Abuse) Club in 2000. Under her leadership, YCAB trains close to 300,000
youth nationwide annually and mobilized mass media in shaping public opinion on drug abuse and advocating the
government on the urgency of and the strategy for primary prevention. Veronica co-authored a manual for youth on
"Enhancing Life Skills on Drug Abuse Prevention" and serves as an advisor to the Indonesian
National Narcotics Board. She received the National Gold Award from the Indonesian President in 2003. In 2004, she was commissioned
by the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC- Vienna) to become the Regional Coordinator of the Global Youth Network
(GYN) for SouthEast Asia and the Pacific. In 2007-2008, YCAB played a major role in the region as the main regional coordinator of
NGOs under the Vienna NGO Commission. In 2007, YCAB received a Special Consultative Status from the UN Economic and Social
Council. She published her first book "Raising Drug Free Children," in July 2007. Veronica was appointed as Young Global Leader by the
World Economic Forum in 2006 and served as an Asia Society 21 Young Leaders Fellow, class of 2007-08. In November 2008, she
received a Social Innovator Park Fellow Award for her contribution as a social entrepreneur in Indonesia. She studied mass communication
and public relations for her undergraduate degree and was awarded an MS in Drug Policy and Intervention from the

Imperial College, University of London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicines. At 29, Veronica was the youngest
recipient of the United Nations - Vienna Civil Society Award (2001).
DAMDIN TSOGTBAATAR
Damdin Tsogtbaatar is the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, a position he was appointed
to in June 2008. Prior to this appointment, he served as Foreign Policy Advisor to two Presidents of Mongolia for
over six years. Between 2000 and 2002, Damdin was Deputy Director of the Department of Multi-lateral Cooperation
at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia. Before that, he served as a WTO desk officer for the Department of
Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and desk officer in charge of Australia, New
Zealand and ASEAN countries in the Asia and Africa Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Damdin received
his Masters degree in legal studies (international law) from the Australian National University School of Law, as
well as a Masters degree in political science (with
Hon.) from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Russia. In addition, he was a part-time lecturer in international trade law
at the School of Foreign Service, National University of Mongolia. His WTO-related articles were published in London, Boston and
Cambridge. Damdin speaks fluent Russian and English and also speaks Khmer and Thai.
NITIN DAS
Nitin Das is an independent filmmaker based out of Mumbai, India. He has recently finished a feature length
children's film in the slums of Mumbai. Nitin has a degree in marketing from one of India's leading business
schools, and was working as a brand manager for India's largest selling news magazine before he turned to follow
his passion of filmmaking. He has completed a filmmaking course in New York. On returning to India, he set up
a film production house, Filmkaar Productions, to make "extraordinary films with ordinary people." The United
Nations Environment Programme recently selected one of his films on global warming. Nitin has won a special
award from the British Council for creative entrepreneurship in the social sector. His next venture is to connect
exceptional filmmakers from around the world with social entrepreneurs working in fragile ecosystems to create
a collection of entertaining films called "Tales from Enchanted Lands.”
ENKHCHIMEG DAVAANYAM
Enkhchimeg Davaanyam is the CEO of Petrovis LLC, the largest petroleum import and distribution company
operating in Mongolia. Before taking this position in January 2008, she worked as the Head of Investment and
Planning Division of ERDENES MGL SHC, a state-owned company which holds and manages licenses of the
largest strategic mining deposits of the country. She has also worked as the USA, Canada and South America
desk officer responsible for trade and economy affairs at the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Mongolia.
Enkhchimeg graduated from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Colorado with dual degrees
as Master of Business Administration and Master of Science in Finance. She continued her study and work
experience in the United States as a Research Assistant in the Graduate School of Business at the University of
Colorado, as an investment analyst at a hedge fund and also as an investment analyst at Citigroup Insurance investment in Hartford, CT.
She has a bachelor’s degree in Japanese Studies from the University of Foreign Languages in Ulaanbaatar, as well as a diploma in Japanese
Studies from the Tokyo University of Foreign Languages in Japan. Enkhchimeg is fluent in Japanese, English and Russian. She is Level
II Candidate in process for the CFA Chartered Financial Analyst degree.
ABHA DAWESAR
Abha Dawesar is an internationally acclaimed author of four novels, most recently Family Values, which is
currently shortlisted for the Prix Médicis Etranger and the Prix Femina Etranger in France. Her book Babyji
won the American Library Association's Stonewall Award and a Lambda literary prize. It was also shortlisted
for the Prix Médicis Etranger and the Prix Bel Ami. In 2000, Abha won a Fiction Fellowship from the New
York Foundation of the Arts. She was one of 20 women selected as a Rising Talent by the Women's Forum
for Economy and Society in 2007. In August 2009, she was given the Global Youth Leadership Award by
Youth Organization India. Her works have been translated into French, Spanish,
Italian, Portuguese, Hebrew, Thai, Turkish, and Farsi; Chinese and Russian editions are forthcoming. She has received international
residencies for writers, and spoken at literary events and conferences. Abha also serves on the Advisory Board of the Kalidas Ghalib

Jose Romeo "Romy" S. De La Cruz is on his third term as a member of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Santiago
City, Philippines. He was elected to the aforesaid local legislative body through a popular vote during the local
elections in 2001, 2004 and 2007. In recognition of the local legislations he authored empowering youth, he was
awarded the Gawad Kampeon ng Kabataang Pilipino (Ten Outstanding Legislators for Youth) in 2006 by Her
Excellency Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, President of the Republic of the Philippines. Before he was elected, he
served thousands of indigent litigants as a public attorney of the Public Attorney's Office. Aside from being a
public servant, he is also engaged in the active practice of law and a lecturer of Public International Law and
Conflict of Laws at the University of La Salette College of Law. Romy received his Bachelors Degree in Political Science, Summa Cum
Laude, from St. Louis University and his Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of the Philippines College of Law. His current
advocacy is environmental education, protection and preservation.
SAPNA DESAI
Sapna Desai is Health Coordinator with the national federation of the Self Employed Women's Association
(SEWA), a trade union of 1.1 million women workers in India's informal economy. She is a public health
specialist, focusing on women's health, implementation of community-based health programs, and operations
research. She has previously worked with Family Health International in New Delhi and at a health care
consulting firm in New York. Sapna holds a Masters degree in public health from Harvard University and a
Bachelor's degree in international relations from Brown University.
NOVITA DEWI
Novita Dewi is the Founder and Commissioner of PT Atra Widiya Agung, one of Indonesia’s largest medical
equipment suppliers, providing consultancy for hospitals throughout the archipelago. She is a business personturned-social entrepreneur - in many ways an emerging figure among Indonesian entrepreneurs, especially among
young and active Indonesian women. Other than the underserviced demand for high quality medical and health
services in Indonesia, Novita's choice of this sector was driven by her dream to witness Indonesians having
accessible and affordable health and medical service everywhere in the country. While still very young
and greatly successful in various commercial ventures, Novita decided to leave her active involvement in business and shifted to social
and organizational activities three years ago, especially in the area of entrepreneurship, microfinance and the creative industry. She recently
established Indonesia Raya Binangkit, a documentary production house aiming to preserve Indonesia's history and heritage in creative and

CECILE VICTORIA ALCANTARA DOMINGUEZ
Cecile Victoria Alcantara Dominguez is the Executive Director of Conrado and Ladislawa Alcantara Foundation,
Inc, a non-profit, civil society, family foundation. In this role, Cecile develops and implements programs in
education, health, enterprise development, and environment. The foundation's operations cover more than 15,000
beneficiaries in six municipalities. She was previously program director for education at the League of Corporate
Foundations. Cecile is also the convener of Sarangani Youth Forum and YouthVote Philippines-Sarangani and
General Santos Chapter. She graduated with a degree in international relations from Connecticut College.

DENNIS ECLARIN
Dennis Eclarin is a Director in the Philippines Army and the Founder of Hometown Corporation, a company whose
aim is to alleviate poverty in geographically-isolated highland and island towns. After graduating from the United
States Military Academy at West Point, Major Eclarin served as a combat commander in the elite Scout Ranger
Regiment of the Philippine Army. While in the war zones, he authored two books on combat techniques.
Convinced that he had to fight another war, he soon advocated social entrepreneurship. Thus he founded
Hometown Corporation, a microfinance company solely dedicated to serving hard to reach areas. He is an Asia
Society Asia 21 Fellow in the Class of 2007.
FAHMI FADZIL
Fahmi Fadzil is a partner at Bright Lights at Midnight at the Five Arts Center in Kuala Lumpur. As a performer, writer, and ex-chemical
engineer, he is a member of arts collective Five Arts Centre, partner at creative studio Bright Lights At Midnight, principal coordinator of
wayang experimentation group Projek Wayang, and host for the online interview program, The Fairly Current Show. He writes for various
online and print media on urban youth culture. Fahmi was the recipient of the Most Promising Artist Award at the BOH Cameronian Arts
Awards 2006, and was a theatre finalist for the Rolex Mentor and Protege Arts Initiative 2008/2009.
MING FAN
Ming Fan is an award-winning TV producer for News Probe, the only in-depth investigative reporting program at
China Central TV Station (CCTV). Her work, The Unnatural Death of a Cat, investigated one of the most infamous
incidents in China's powerful Internet culture, and received the 2006 Special Jury Award from the China
Documentary Association. Another piece, In the Name of Life, was the first show to cover the real life of
homosexuals in China, and won the 2006 Chinese Academic Award for best TV documentary. Fan has also won
numerous Golden Awards at CCTV for her investigation into sensitive news issues and scandals, including high
ranking corruption, child suicide, medical malpractice, environmental pollution, and social injustice. From
September 2007 to July 2008, she studied under the auspices of the Nieman Foundation at Harvard University.
She participated in the Tallberg Forum in Sweden in June 2008. She was held in custody in Chengdu Prison for
seven days due to the in-depth investigative documentary she was shooting on the collapsed "shoddy buildings" in October 2008. She
participated in the Asia 21 Young Leaders Summit in November 2008 as a delegate, and became an Asia 21 Fellow in March 2009.
EVELYN N. FARKAS
Evelyn N. Farkas is a Senior Fellow at the American Security Project. In 2008 she served as Executive Director of the
congressionally-mandated Commission on the Prevention of Weapons of Mass Destruction Proliferation and
Terrorism. From 2001 to 2008, she served as a Professional Staff Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee,
conducting policy and budget oversight of the Department of Defense policy office and military commands including
the US Pacific Command, Special Operations Command, Southern Command, Northern Command, and US Forces
Korea. Her issue areas included foreign and defense policy in Asia Pacific and the Western Hemisphere, and worldwide
special operations, combating terrorism, foreign military assistance, peace and stability operations,
counternarcotics efforts, homeland defense, and export control policy. Prior to assuming that position, she was a professor of international
relations at the US Marine Corps Command and Staff College, Marine Corps University. She served in Bosnia as a Human Rights Officer
for the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in 1996, and as an Election Supervisor in 1997. She is also the author
of Fractured States and US Foreign Policy: Iraq, Ethiopia, and Bosnia in the 1990s. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations,
International Institute for Security Studies, Women in International Security Studies. Evelyn obtained her MA and
PhD from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
MICHAEL R. FENZEL
Michael R. Fenzel is an active duty army lieutenant colonel (selected early for promotion to the rank of colonel).
He is currently a PhD student in national security studies at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
He has recently served as an airborne battalion task force commander in Afghanistan (2007-08) and as the deputy
commander for the 1st Brigade of the 82d Airborne Division (2005-06). As a field grade officer, he served a yearlong tour in Iraq, after taking part in the parachute assault into northern Iraq in March 2003. He served close to two
years as a Director for Transnational Threats at the National Security Council. In this capacity, he oversaw the
coordination and implementation of US counter-terrorism policy. He has also served as a Strategist and Policy
Analyst for the Army Chief of Staff at the Pentagon. As an infantry officer in the US

Army, Michael has led soldiers through Operation Desert Storm, served as a battalion logistics officer in Bosnia in 1995, commanded two
paratrooper companies in Italy (through the defense of the US embassy and evacuation of 1,400 people during Operation Assured Response
in Liberia in 1996), and served as an airborne battalion executive officer in Iraq. Michael was a Term Member with the Council on Foreign
Relations and is a former White House Fellow. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the Johns Hopkins University
and holds Masters degrees from Harvard University and the US Naval War College, both with an emphasis on international security.
BHAVANI FONSEKA
Bhavani Fonseka is presently working as a Senior Researcher with the Centre for Policy Alternatives, a think tank in Sri Lanka, conducting
research, documentation, national and international advocacy and litigation. She is a human rights lawyer and activist, with a focus on
assisting victims and affected populations in various parts of Sri Lanka. She has worked on a range of issues including the rights of the
displaced, women, children, minorities, HIV/AIDS, land and legal issues. She has been involved in and supported several key fundamental
rights cases protecting the rights of victims in recent times in Sri Lanka. Bhavani has an LLB (Hons) (UK) and LLM (in international
human rights law) (USA). In 2007, she was awarded 'The Young Outstanding Persons' (TOYP) in the category of human rights by the
Junior Chamber International and HSBC Bank.
KOK JWEE FOO
Kok Jwee Foo is a Singaporean diplomat. He is currently leading a team that oversees Singapore's relations with
Indonesia in the Foreign Ministry. Kok Jwee is also the Deputy Head of two study groups looking at interdisciplinary issues in the Ministry. From 2002 to 2006, he served in the Singapore Embassy in Jakarta, first as First
Secretary and then as Counselor. In 2002, he represented Singapore as a delegate at the 57th United Nations General
Assembly. Kok Jwee has won several Singapore Foreign Ministry awards for excellence in political analysis. He
speaks fluent Indonesian in addition to English and Mandarin. He graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering from
the National University of Singapore, and his final year research thesis was published in the International Journal
of Impact Engineering. Kok Jwee earned his Master in Public Administration from Harvard University's Kennedy
School of Government as a Mason Fellow.
VAHID FOTUHI
Vahid Fotuhi is British Petroleum (BP) Solar's Middle East Director, based in Dubai. He is responsible for
developing solar power partnerships and projects in the fast-growing Middle East region. He is also in charge of
working closely with the Persian Gulf governments to help them define and meet their renewable energy targets by
harnessing their abundant supply of solar power. Prior, Vahid was the head of BP's Middle East Market Analysis for
the Supply & Trading division. Previous to that, Vahid was the Manager for BP's communications and corporate
social responsibility in North Africa. Whilst based in Algeria, he was able to implement initiatives which ranged
from providing 600 local artisans with the tools to enhance their trade, to helping promote a world-scale
CO2 carbon sequestration scheme in the Saharan desert. Over the past 15 years, Vahid has had the privilege of working with distinguished
institutions such as Transparency International in Washington, DC, and the World Economic Forum in Davos. He has a Masters degree
from Johns Hopkins University (SAIS) in Washington, DC, and a BA from McGill University, Canada. He is the proud father of two
young boys, Cyrus and Luca, who are a constant reminder to him of how important his job is in helping make this world a more sustainable
place.
GREGORY FOX
Gregory Fox is an Australian doctor specializing in respiratory medicine, and is a Clinical Associate Lecturer with the
University of Sydney. He has also previously undertaken clinical research in East Timor. Greg was co-founder of two
international health groups in Sydney that encourage young doctors to apply their training to the benefit of the global
poor. He has a strong interest in medical education, and for a number of years, served on peak organizations
implementing post-graduate medical training reform. He has a Masters degree in international public health. He is
currently pursuing a PhD through the University of Sydney and research into tuberculosis and lung disease in Vietnam.
He is a part of the 'Hoc Mai' medical partnership between Hanoi Medical University and the University of
Sydney.

GAN SU-LIN
Gan Su-lin has led Republic Polytechnic's (RP) Centre for Culture and Communication since 2004, and concurrently
served as the Founding Director of the School of Technology for the Arts from January 2005 to October 2007. Prior
to RP, she was a tenured professor at Nanyang Technological University's School of Communication and
Information, serving as Sub-Dean from 2001-2003. A media psychologist by academic training, Su-Lin gained
professional experience in journalism and public relations through work in Singapore, Brunei, London, and the
United States, including at CNN. Since returning to Singapore in 1996, she has become a familiar face in Singapore's
youth development scene. Her public service appointments include the National Youth Council and the North West
Community Development Council. Her vision for youths is “Heads that understand,
Hearts that empathize, Hands that freely give.” Two values most often manifest in her youth development work are a definition of wealth
that extends far beyond material possessions, and the belief that “hang hang chu zhuang yuan” (Mandarin for "every field of work can
produce a top scholar"). In 2006, in recognition of her community contributions, Su-Lin was awarded the Public Service Medal by the
President of Singapore.
JARED GENSER
Jared Genser is a partner in the government affairs group of DLA Piper LLP and President of Freedom Now
(www.freedom-now.org), an NGO that works to free prisoners of conscience worldwide. He previously taught a
semester-long seminar on the UN Security Council at the University of Pennsylvania and University of Michigan
law schools. His human rights clients have included Nobel Peace Prize Laureates Aung San Suu Kyi, Desmond
Tutu, and Elie Wiesel. Previously, Jared was a management consultant with McKinsey & Company. Jared holds
a BS from Cornell University, an MPP from Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government, and
a JD from the University of Michigan.
JANES IMANUEL GINTING
Janes Imanuel Ginting is the Strategy Management Director at World Vision Indonesia, an international Christian relief, development and
advocacy organization. World Vision is dedicated to working with children, families and communities regardless of religion, race, ethnicity
or gender to overcome poverty and injustice. Previously, he worked as community development coordinator and then project manager of
World Vision's projects in Eastern Indonesia focusing on basic education, health and economic development programs. He then worked
as National Program Officer overseeing nine World Vision's development projects across Indonesia. He worked as Junior Poverty Analyst
at the World Bank Office Jakarta and with his team, provided substantial inputs to the Government of Indonesia in the development of
National Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper and Medium Term Development Program. At the World Bank he also led some social
researches on the immediate impact of decentralization in increasing the poor people access to public services. In 2005, he joined the Asia
Foundation as the Program Officer supporting some 19 local and national Civil Society Organizations in advocating pro poor policies in
three provinces in Indonesia. In 2006, he moved to the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) and administered the
design and implementation process of AusAID's HIV and AIDS and Maternal and Neonatal Health Programs in Indonesia. In March 2009,
he returned to World Vision Indonesia. At his current role, he is responsible to facilitate the strategic integration of World Vision's Programs
to leverage its program's impacts in nine provinces, 40 districts across Indonesia with 95,000 children as direct beneficiaries. Janes
graduated from Bogor Agricultural University (majoring in Agribusiness). As a Chevening Scholar, he received his Masters degree from
the London School of Economics in Social Policy and Planning in Developing Countries.
JAIME ENRIQUE Y. GONZALEZ
Jaime Enrique Y. Gonzalez is President and CEO of IPVG Corporation, a publicly listed company on the
Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE: IP) engaged in information technology and communications. He directly
handles all investment-related activities of IPVG including fund-raising, mergers & acquisitions, and exit. Jaime
has been intimately involved in the start-up process of all business units, and responsible for working with
business unit heads in meeting or exceeding operating targets. He holds a successful track record in the internet
space; having founded a series of internet start-ups that have been acquired by larger US-based firms
(match.ph/itzamatch.com) and has taken IPVG from garage to public. Among Jaime’s recently concluded deals
are a US$22M BPO Venture inked by IPVG and PCCW in August 2009, a major Investment Agreement with
UK-based Global Emerging Markets (GEM) group for IPVG to raise PhP300M from GEM, a US$18M fund raising program from
institutional investors such as ING, BDO, RCBC Capital, Abacus Securities and Philippine Star, and acquisitions of Influent, one of the
top 15 call center companies in the US, and Prolexic Technologies, a leader in Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) mitigation services
in the world. Jaime is also Deputy Chairman of IP Foundation (IPF), IPVG's corporate social responsibility arm (CSR) formed in June

RYAN CAMADO GUINARAN
Ryan Camado Guinaran is the Local Reform Implementation Coordinator of Mountain Provinces for Formula One
for Health. He is a medical doctor and consultant for the European Commission Technical Assistance to the Health
Sector Policy Support Program in the Philippines. He is a researcher and author and has published articles on varied
topics both technical and literary. Ryan was a university instructor and sits as a member of the Regional Quality
Assessment Team of the Commission on Higher Education. He is founding executive director of NGOs focusing
on culture and indigenous health and has led national, regional and local youth groups involved in youth formation,
leadership and social responsibility, research and documentation, and socio-civic programs. As an artist, he does
poetry, drawings and short documentaries on Cordillera history and traditions. Ryan is also
President of the Cordillera Indigenous Peoples Historical Society.
ASHISH GUMASHTA

TAMAO GUNN
Tamao Gunn is a Managing Director at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. For the last 10 years, she has worked in
the investment banking division covering Japanese financial institutions including Japanese mega banks. She was
an attorney in New York for Skadden Arps and Milbank Tweed, mainly focusing on corporate finance and project
finance that originated in emerging markets. She has truly enjoyed investment banking work at Merrill Lynch as
it has provided her with the opportunity to work on business origination in addition to transaction execution. In
particular, the recent financial turmoil and the drastic change in the financial landscape globally via consolidation
has been very interesting for her as a banker, and has given her the opportunity to reassess the importance of global
financial stability and the role that Japanese financial institutions could play in this event.
She holds an LLB from Keio University and Sydney University and was admitted as an attorney in the state of New York and the state of
New South Wales in Australia.
DENNIS GUPA
Dennis Gupa is a stage director at the University of the Philippines Los Banos. He helped establish the theatre
group Teatrong Sikap, affiliated with Sibikong Kabataang Pinoy, Inc. (SIKAP), a non-government organization
that he encountered while in high school. During a period of church missionary training in Mindanao, Dennis
led children’s workshops and performed among tribal community groups. Subsequently, he returned to SIKAP
as a full-time volunteer staff. He directed many small shows for Teatrong Sikap and created performances that
aimed at teaching high school students about nationhood. The group performed in
churches, schools, drug-rehabilitation centers, centers for sexually abused children and juvenile delinquents. In 2003, he collaborated with
different artists and theatre scholars to implement a project called, "Telon-telong Makabayan: Teatro sa Edukasyong Pagkamakabayan."
This received a $1 million grant from the first World Bank's Panibagong Paraan, and in the same year, SIKAP was endowed with the
Quezon City Most Outstanding Organization Award for Community Service. Dennis studied Broadcasting Communication at the
Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) and received his MA in Theatre Arts from the University of the Philippines-Diliman.
AMRIT GURUNG
Amrit Gurung is a poet, musician, singer, photographer, filmmaker and traveler, and one of Nepal's most
recognized faces. His art reflects his strong beliefs about protecting peace, justice and nature. Amrit is the man
behind Nepal's foremost folk rock band, Nepathya, and is a role model for Nepal's young adults. He uses the
medium of music and photography to spread his message of peace directly to the people. He is a compulsive
traveler and has trekked across 70 of Nepal's 75 districts, collecting folk lyrics and music. Amrit took his peace

concerts around Nepal, while the country was at war.
MENAKA GURUSWAMY
Menaka Guruswamy practices law at the Supreme Court of India. Her doctoral thesis work, which is underway from
Oxford University, is on anti-terror laws in India. She has worked at the Office of the Attorney General of India (Ashok
H. Desai), the highest office that represents the central government in the Supreme Court of India. She has also practiced
law in New York as an associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell, where her primary area of practice was commercial law.
Menaka has also worked as a consultant for the United Nations Development Program, the United Nations Development
Fund for Women (UNIFEM), and the Government of India, providing advice on law reform. In 2006-2007, she taught at
New York University's School of Law. Her most recent publications include pieces on the constitutional process in Nepal,
on constitutional values and the Supreme Court
in India, on how to combat financing of terrorism, on financing the Lashkar-e-Toiba, and on the National Investigative Agency Act, 2008.
Menaka was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, and a Gammon Fellow at Harvard Law School, and a gold medalist from the National
Law School of India. She has law degrees from all three schools, with a focus on Constitutional Law and Public International Law. She is
a member of the Supreme Court Bar Association, New Delhi, and admitted to the Bar in New York.
AZIZ HAKIMI
Aziz Hakimi is Country Director of Future Generations in Afghanistan, an international non-profit NGO and
parallel graduate school that builds local capacity worldwide through a Masters degree in Applied Community
Change and Conservation. He has worked as policy advisor for President Karzai of Afghanistan and as Human
Rights Advisor with the United Nations in Pakistan and Afghanistan. He also directed a local media NGO and
expanded independent radio broadcast and distribution of weekly publications throughout Afghanistan. He was
educated in India and South Africa and holds a Masters degree in Conflict, Security and Development from
King's College London.
PIYA HANVORAVONGCHAI
Piya Hanvoravongchai is a lecturer in health policy at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
(University of London) based in Thailand. He is a physician with interests in international health policy and health
economics. After starting his career as a medical doctor in rural Thailand, Piya's work expanded to health policy and
system research, including health systems development, health care financing, health systems performance, and human
resources for health. He was a Global Health Leadership Fellow at the World Health Organization working on health
systems performance measurement and health financing policy. While at the Global Equity Initiative, Harvard
University, he coordinated a network of over 200 global health experts to address the global crisis in the
health workforce. He was a coordinator of the Asia-Pacific Action Alliance on Human Resources for Health until last year. His ongoing
research concerns communicable diseases policy, including the feasibility of measles eradication and health systems' preparation for
pandemic influenza in Asia. Piya received his medical degree from Mahidol University, Thailand, and his Masters and Doctoral degrees
from the London School of Economics and Harvard University, respectively.
SARAH HASHWANI
Sarah was elected as chairperson of HOAP, Pakistan in 2003. In 2007, three non-profit organizations supported by
the Family Foundation were merged under one, i.e., Hashoo Foundation. In September 2007, she was accepted as
a Member of the Clinton Global Initiative, representing Hashoo Foundation at the conference in New York, where
it was granted a certification for its achievements for poverty alleviation. Sarah is a board member of Shia Imami
Ismaili Council Pakistan, NAVTEC, GPC, President TiE Islamabad, Director Corporate Governance and Strategic
Planning-Hashoo Group, IFC Certified Board Director-Hashoo Group Board. Her ambition is to serve humanity
and devote her education, experience, and resources to help human development and poverty alleviation and enable
the youth to achieve a brighter future. In 2003, Sarah graduated with an Honors Degree from
University of Saint Thomas, Houston, Texas.

HOUMAN HEMMATI
Houman Hemmati is an ophthalmologist at Johns Hopkins Hospital and is Global Task Force chairman at the American Jewish Committee.
He was born in Iran, and fled to the United States with his family during the revolution in 1979. He attended Stanford, where he codiscovered fetal blood-forming stem cells and revamped the undergraduate education system with then-provost Condoleezza Rice.
Following a fellowship in prostate cancer research at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Houman earned his MD at UCLA Medical
School, concurrent with his PhD at Caltech. There, he was the first to publish that brain tumors arise from stem cells.
JUNG-WOOK HONG
Jung-wook Hong is an elected member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, representing the
Nowon Byung District in Seoul. He is currently serving on the Foreign Affairs, Trade and Unification Committee,
as well as the Special Committee on South-North Korean Relations. Jung-wook also served on the Special
Committee on US Beef Imports, a highly publicized parliamentary committee organized to review the Korea-US
beef import accord signed in April 2008. Prior to entering politics, he had been the chairman and CEO of Herald
Media, a leading media group in Korea, which includes The Korea Herald, the nation's largest English newspaper,
and The Herald Business, a leading Korean business daily. Jung-wook was also the Chairman and CEO of HMX
Donga TV, a premier television network for women. He remains the largest shareholder of both
Herald Media and HMX Donga TV. Active in the field of foreign relations, he is a board director of the Korean-American Association and
a member of the Policy Advisory Committee of the Asia Society. A lover and patron of the arts, he also serves on the Operating Advisory
Committee of the National Museum of Korea, the Operating Committee of the Seoul National University Museum of Art, and the
Supporting Committee of the Gloria Opera Company. Jung-wook also leads and sponsors the Nowon Voll Ensemble Company, a youth
chamber orchestra in his electoral district. Previously, he passed the New York Bar and worked as an investment banker at Lehman Brothers
in the US. He was a founder and the chairman of Struxicon, an internet startup in California. He was selected as a Young Global Leader
by the World Economic Forum in 2005, an Asia 21 Fellow by the Asia Society in 2006, and a Young Europe-Asia Leader by the BMW
Herbert Quandt Foundation. He has published many articles and books, including Seven Acts Seven Scenes, an autobiography that has
sold over 1.2 million copies to date. Jung-wook received his A.B. from Harvard University and J.D. from Stanford University. He also
studied at Peking University and Seoul National University. In 2005, he received an honorary doctorate in political science from Yongin
University in Korea.
SARA HOSSAIN
Sara Hossain practices constitutional, public interest, human rights and family law in the Supreme Court of
Bangladesh and is based at Dr. Kamal Hossain and Associates. She works actively with two human rights
organizations, the Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) and Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK). She is a
Board Member of the South Asian Women's Fund, and also a Member of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Commission.
She earlier ran the South Asia Programme at the international human rights organization, INTERIGHTS. Sara
writes and lectures on issues of human rights, women's rights, public interest law and access to justice and her
publications include (co-edited with Lynn Welchman) "Honour: Crimes, Paradigms and Violence against
Women,” “Socio-Economic Rights in South Asia” (with Iain Byrne) in Social Rights
Jurisprudence, and Remedies for Rights to Choice in Marriage (forthcoming 2009). She was educated at Wadham College, Oxford
University (MA (Hons) 1988), and called to the Bar from Middle Temple (1989).
BI-KHIM HSIAO
Bi-khim Hsiao is Vice President of Liberal International, an organization of liberal political parties around the
world. She was previously a Member of Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan. Although she was one of the youngest
members, Bi-Khim has been active in Taiwan politics for over a decade. She was also Chair of the Foreign Relations
Committee in the Legislative Yuan. Bi-Khim has has been the Director of International Affairs for the governing
Democratic Progressive Party, Consultant to the Mainland Affairs Council, spokesperson for Chen Shui-bian’s
2000 and 2004 presidential campaigns, Advisor to the Office of the President, Secretary General of the Council of
Asian Liberals and Democrats, and President of the Taiwan Association for Women in Sports. In addition to foreign
policy issues, she continues to be outspoken on immigrant rights, gender equality, sports,
human rights and other issues in Taiwan.

EUGENE J. HUANG
Eugene J. Huang currently serves as the Government Operations Director for the National Broadband Task Force at the US Federal
Communications Commission. Eugene is helping to craft the "national purposes" section of the National Broadband Plan, with a specific
focus on the topics of government operations and civic engagement. From 2006 to 2009, he served at the US Department of the Treasury
under two separate secretaries of the Treasury, as Policy Advisor to the Secretary and previously as a White House Fellow. In these roles,
Eugene covered a wide range of international economic and finance issues with a special responsibility for US bilateral relations with
China; China Strategic Economic Dialogue (SED) and its successor, the US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED). Previously,
he was a Visiting Scholar at the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research (SIEPR) at Stanford University. From 2002 to 2006,
Eugene served the Commonwealth of Virginia under Governor Mark R. Warner as the Secretary of Technology and previously as the
Deputy Secretary of Technology. Appointed in 2004 as the youngest cabinet member in Virginia history at the age of 28, he was a key
member of the management team responsible for Virginia's designation as the nation's best-managed state in 2005. Eugene was also
responsible for managing the state's award winning information technology reform initiative, fostered the development of advanced
broadband communications, and facilitated the growth of emerging technology industries throughout Virginia. Eugene graduated magna
cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania, with a BS in Economics from the Wharton School, a BS in Electrical Engineering, and an
MS in Telecommunications Engineering. He received a Thouron Award from the University of Pennsylvania and studied at St. John's
College, Oxford University, where he received a M.Phil. with distinction, in Economic History. Eugene is a term member of the Council
on Foreign Relations and a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
FAZIL IRWAN
Fazil Irwan is a Director at the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) Foundation, heading the department of editorial and business
development and responsible for all publications of the Foundation. As a professional translator and copywriter, he has written speeches
for the Chairman of the Foundation, the Prime Minister and the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia on various occasions. He is also the
Co-Founder and Head Coordinator of the WIEF Young Leaders Network's Internship and Scholarship Programme, responsible for placing
bright students of the Muslim world for internship opportunities abroad and granting scholarship for students to pursue further studies. He
founded WorkPlayAsia, a fun cultural-based internship agency company, to bring young people in North America and Europe for
internship placements in Malaysia while enjoying a program of local cultural exposure. He used to work on projects for BBC and Thomson
on translation and linguistics. Fazil was a British Chevening Scholar, obtaining a Masters degree from the School of Oriental and African

Zahid U. Jamil is a Barrister-at-Law and Senior Partner at Jamil & Jamil Barristers-at-Law. He is a specialist in
Banking, International Law, Property Law, Constitutional, Conflicts of Laws, Corporate Finance, Securitization,
International Law of Trade (WTO), Privatization, Petroleum Law, Recovery of Loans, Transportation Law,
Corporate and Commercial matters. Zahid has been, as a member of the Information Technology Law Forum,
Ministry of Science & Technology, responsible as the core drafter of the Electronic Transactions Ordinance, 2002
and is currently working on the drafts of the Cyber Crimes Law, the Electronic Banking Law, Telecommunication
& Convergence Law and the Anti-Trust Law relating to the Information Technology Industry of Pakistan. At
present he is advising the US Government on a major project based in Pakistan, the
State Bank of Pakistan on various regulatory issues and advising the first Pakistani Export Finance Agency Ltd. (PEFGA) on issues from
incorporation to treaty reinsurance, Export Credit and Trade Law. He is a Professor of US Constitutional Law at the Sindh Muslim Law
College, University of Karachi, and also lectures in U.K. Constitutional Law for the LL.B. (Hons), University of London at L'Ecole,
Karachi. He graduated from University College, London with an LLB (Hons), is a Barrister of the Honourable Society of Gray's Inn,
London, U.K and an advocate of the High Courts of Pakistan.
T. JAYASHREE
T.Jayashree is an independent documentary film maker. She has written, directed and produced for radio,
television and independent feature documentaries and feature film in India and abroad. Apart from film making,
she worked as a trade union activist for two years with an independent trade union of construction workers in
Delhi. She received the Indo German Social Service Fellowship from 1991-1993. She is also a board member for
SANGAMA, a sexual minorities human rights organization in Bangalore and President of MILANA – a
community-based organization of women affected and infected by HIV/AIDS in Bangalore. Her international
film collaboration credits include – A Woman's Place, an international women's documentary film project on women and law; and New
Americans, a series on immigrants to the US in the late 1990s. Independent films include Many People Many Desires, on class and sexuality
in India, and A Human Question, on HIV/AIDS and global access to affordable medicines. Both films are widely screened around the
world and are part of the open source initiative “PADMA.” She conducts film screenings, sexuality and sex education classes for high
school children in Bangalore. Currently, she is researching the impact of development aid in India. She lives in Bangalore, India.

Prashant Jha is an independent journalist based in Kathmandu. He is a weekly columnist for the Nepali Times on
national politics, ethnic movements, and geo-political influence especially India's Nepal policy. Prashant is also a
contributing editor with Himal Southasian Magazine, where he has reported on the changing dynamics of Indian
foreign policy, the Naxalite insurgency, the aftermath of the Gujarat riots, and elections in Nepal. Prashant regularly
comments and writes on Nepal for international broadcasters and publications, and speaks to diverse audiences.
He is currently working on a book on Nepal's political transition, to be published by Penguin India in 2010.

Hui Chan “Mike” Joo is Managing Director & Chief Operating Officer, Global Markets, for Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Mike is
based in New York and has global responsibility for strategy, business support, and leading the core operating offices of all the lines of
business. Previously, Mike was Head of Asia Debt Capital Markets based in Hong Kong. Before joining Merrill Lynch, he spent nine years
at Credit Suisse where he was Head of Asia Debt Capital Markets and was responsible for Korea investment banking and derivatives
coverage. Mike began his career at Goldman Sachs in New York and Hong Kong. He received the Ministry of Finance & Economy
Excellence Award for his significant contributions to the financial markets in Korea, including his work during the Asian financial crisis.

NATALIE CHRISTINE JORGE
Natalie Christine "Ching" Virata Jorge is the Vice President and Director for Programs and Research at the Bato
Balani Foundation, Inc., a non-profit foundation engaged in the management and implementation of educational
development programs in the Philippines. Committed to social and youth development, Ching is also the
Chair/Lead Convenor for Young Public Servants (YPS), a youth organization that aims to harness a new generation
of young leaders who support and advocate democratic citizenship and good governance. She is also the
Chairperson of the Research Committee of the League of Corporate Foundations (LCF), the leading proponent of
corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs in the Philippines, and the founder of Project LIA (Love in Action),
an advocacy campaign in support of Orphanages and Day Care Centers. Ching’s commitment to development
work includes original research, consulting and volunteer activities with various academic
institutions and NGOs. She has undertaken lead roles in development and research programs on CSR, Policy Development and Education.
She has over a decade of experience in social development, including work with the Philippine National Museum Foundation, the Policy
Center and the Center for Corporate Social Responsibility of the Asian Institute of Management. Ching has also published a number of

HONG JU KHEE
Hong Ju Khee is Media Advisor for the Ministry of Information of the Government of Malaysia. She is also a
director of an independent media and public affairs consulting firm. She led the revamp of the national Mandarin
news and created a ground-breaking talk show. In her television career, she anchored the daily news in English,
Malay and Chinese over a decade. She built and headed NTV7's Mandarin news desk from scratch into the toprated news program and was voted the country's most popular news presenter. As executive producer she
conceptualized and hosted award-winning programs. In 2000, she was selected as one of TAG Heuer's Asian
Women of the Millenium alongside Zhang Ziyi and Coco Lee.
ROMMEL TAMBUNTING JUAN
Rommel Tambunting Juan is the President of Philippines native food chain, Binalot Fiesta Foods, Inc., and
General Manager and VP for Sales and Marketing of Jeep body builder and exporter, MD Juan Enterprises. In
2005, he was awarded as one of the Top Ten Entrepreneurs by Entrepreneur Magazine. In November 2007,
Rommel and Binalot won a once-in-a-lifetime Centennial Prize in the worldwide UPS Out-of-the-Box Small
Business Contest, cited for "best exemplifying the end-to-end service theme of UPS's Centennial Celebration".
In February 2008, Binalot received a prestigious Anvil Award of Merit from the Public Relations Society of the
Philippines (PRSP). Rommel organized the Dangal at Hanapbuhay para sa Nayon (Dahon) Foundation,
Binalot's CSR program to help the impoverished banana farmers of Southern Tagalog. He was also at the forefront of organizing an allFilipino group, the Association of Filipino Franchisers, Inc., (AFFI) where he is currently the President. AFFI's advocacy is responsible

franchising, a concept that ensures aspiring Filipino entrepreneurs are not shortchanged by irresponsible franchisers. At MD Juan
Enterprises, Rommel set up an On-the-Job Training (OJT) program for graduating mechanical and industrial engineering students from
several universities, preparing them for work in production, process engineering, vehicle & parts design, industrial engineering, production
planning, warehousing, inventory control and quality control. Today, preparations are being made to make MD Juan an accredited training
center for welders, tinsmith, metalworkers, tool & die makers, machine shop operators and painters. This will give young workers the
exposure they need before they seek full-time employment either here or abroad. Rommel obtained his BS Marketing degree from De La
Salle University and his Master in Entrepreneurship diploma from the Asian Institute of Management.
GEN KANAI
Gen Kanai is Director of Asia Business Development for Mozilla, a California-based not-for-profit organization that
develops, manages, and freely distributes the popular Mozilla Firefox web browser. Gen is also Director of Marketing
for Mozilla Japan. Prior to joining Mozilla, he was on the team responsible for the launch of Technorati Japan, a
weblog search engine. In 2003, he co-produced the First International Moblogging Conference, the first worldwide
conference on the topic of mobile weblogs and personal publishing from mobile phones with over 150 attendees from
England, Italy, the US, and Japan. Gen has also worked for Sony Marketing of Japan, Sony Electronics Inc., and
Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc., on various Internet-related businesses in both the US and Japan. He is a fellow of the
US-Japan Foundation’s “US-Japan Leadership Program.” He received a BA in
Geography from Dartmouth College in 1996. He is proud to be born and raised in New York City and currently resides in Tokyo.
SILMY KARIM
Silmy Karim is CEO of Silka Group, the company that he started in 1995. He is a lecturer at the University of
Indonesia. He has published several articles on aspects of economic, entrepreneurship and public policy, and has
participated as a speaker at over 100 seminars or talk shows. The President of the Republic of Indonesia appointed
him through Presidential Decree as a member of the National Team of Indonesia Military Business Transformation.
He has much experience in organization since he was in high school, and now he is the Vice Chairman of HIPMI
(Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association), Vice Chairman of Public Policy Standing Committee at KADIN
(Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry), Secretary-General of Paramadina
Foundation (non-profit organization focusing on education), Secretary General of JCI (Junior Chambers International), and Chairman of
the Alumni of Young National Tenacity Education (government education program where he was chosen as best graduate). In 2008, Silmy
was a fellow of Forum East Asia-Latin America (FEALAC) Young Leader Program. He received his undergraduate degree in economics

HILANI KERR
Hilani Kerr is a Director and Bank of America Merrill Lynch Regional Head of Client Services for Prime Brokerage. She is based in Hong
Kong and leads the teams in Hong Kong, Singapore and Tokyo. As head of the regional client services team, Hilani oversees Prime
Brokerage’s relationships with clients, typically hedge funds. Hilani spent eight years with Deutsche Bank’s Offshore Alternative
Investments business, working in London, Channel Islands and Mauritius. At Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Hilani is also the regional
leader for LEAD (Leadership, Education, Advocacy and Development) for Women, a network dedicated to promoting professional
women’s development. She holds a Masters degree from Monash University in Australia.
ISHITA KHANNA
Ishita Khanna is the Founder and Director of a social enterprise called Ecosphere that works in the cold deserts of
the Trans-Himalayas of India on developing sustainable livelihoods for rural communities with linkages to
conservation of nature and culture. Her passion for the environment and mountains led her to found Ecosphere, in
collaboration with the local community of Spiti. Ecosphere's initiatives in the region range from developing
sustainable livelihoods, women's empowerment, climate change mitigation and adaptation, natural resource
management, heritage conservation and policy advocacy. Ecosphere's objective is to develop Spiti as a model of
sustainable development. Livelihoods and conservation are at the core of its philosophy on which have been built
its entire endeavors. Ecosphere was recently awarded the Wild Asia Responsible Tourism Award and the
Sierra Club Green Energy and Green Livelihood Achievement Award. Ishita has a degree in development from India's premier social
work institute and was recently selected as an Ashoka Fellow.

MARTAND KHOSLA
Martand Khosla set up the architectural studio Romi Khosla Design Studios in 2002. He has been actively engaged
in designing architecture for the underprivileged and using alternate material technologies. His buildings have won
acclaim with three world architecture awards - one for a hostel for families of destitute patients at a government
hospital in New Delhi. His student cafeteria for Jamia Millia Islamia University has been featured in the Phaidon
Atlas of World Architecture as one of the best buildings of the 21st Century. He is currently exploring eco-friendly
technology for factory worker housing. Martand graduated from the Architectural Association in London.
SEAN SE YEON KIM
Sean Se Yeon Kim founded his own consulting company, LIAN Consulting Group in 2006. LIAN has provided
various financial advisory services for many companies in Korea, especially mergers and acquisitions consulting
for SMEs. Currently, he serves as CEO of a troubled company listed in the KOSDAQ market in order to rebuild it
through reducing debt ratio and revising profitability of the company. His experience as a CEO (not as an advisor)

Faisal Karim Kundi was elected to the 13th National Assembly of Pakistan in the February 2008 general election on a Pakistan Peoples
Party (PPP) ticket. He was subsequently elected as the 17th Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan. As a young, first-time
elected MNA at the age of 33, Faisal also has the distinction of being the youngest Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan.
He began his political career in 2003 and has served as the Divisional Coordinator of the PPP for Dera Ismail Khan. Faisal also has the
distinction of defeating, with an overwhelming majority, the religious stalwart and head of his faction of the JUI, a religion-based political
party, Maulana Fazlur Rahman, former opposition leader in the National Assembly. During his studies, Faisal has had the opportunity to

Danny Levinson is the Founder and CEO of BDL Media Ltd, a multi-million dollar digital direct marketing,

MINA “TITI” LIU
Mina “Titi” Liu brings both international experience and a deep concern for Asian Pacific Islander community here in the United States to
her work as the Executive Director of the Asian Law Caucus. She began her legal career as an associate in the China practice of Paul,
Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton and Garrison. She worked for seven years as the Law and Rights Program Officer in the Ford Foundation's
Beijing office, supporting the development of nongovernmental organizations and leading two legal reform initiatives in China. She also
funded organizations throughout Asia working on legal reform. Previous to joining the Caucus, she was the Garvey Schubert Barer Visiting
Professor in Asian Law at the University of Washington School of Law. She has consulted for the US Department of State and USAID
and has served on the board of Social Justice Fund Northwest. She is currently on the Steering Committee of the California Coalition for
Civil Rights. She has published numerous articles on legal reform in China and lectured widely on the relationship between legal reform
and social change. Titi is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School.

ROBIN LOON
Robin Loon is an Assistant Professor at the National University of Singapore. He obtained his PhD in Intercultural
theatre and performance from Royal Holloway University of London. Robin is also an active participant in the
Singapore theatre scene, both as practitioner and assessor for the National Arts Council. Effectively bilingual in
Chinese and English, Robin hopes to merge the traditional and the modern, the east and the west through his creative
and academic work. He has maintained close ties with Singapore's premier English-Language Theatre company,
TheatreWorks, and his recent work for the company as a writer/dramaturg is a collaboration with its artistic director,
Ong Keng Sen, on an intercultural production entitled, GEISHA, which has toured the USA, Europe and Asia. He
has also recently been appointed the head of the TheatreWorks Writer’s Laboratory, a writer's
incubation program into its 16th year.
PARDIS MAHDAVI
Pardis Mahdavi is an Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Pomona College in California. She received her PhD at
Columbia University in the departments of Socio-medical Sciences and Anthropology, focusing on gender and
sexuality in the Middle East within a medical-anthropological context. Her research interests include sexuality, human
rights, transnational feminism and public health in the context of changing global and political structures. Professor
Mahdavi is also a consultant to the International Women's Health Coalition and the United Nations Fund for
Population Advancement. She has published in the Encyclopedia of Women in Islamic Cultures; Culture, Health and
Sexuality; Anthropology News; and the Institute for the Study of Islam in the Modern World Review. Her book,
Passionate Uprisings: Iran's Sexual Revolution was published this fall with Stanford University Press.
SWETA MANGAL
Sweta Mangal is the Co-Founder & CEO of the "Dial 1298 for Ambulance" project. Today, 1298 Ambulance Service covers 50 million
people across Mumbai, Kerala and Patna and has transported over 100,000 patients and victims since its launch. She has also started a
school in Rajasthan to impart quality education. She has worked with top corporates in India including ZEE TV group, Tata AIG Life
Insurance, and Marico Industries. Sweta received her MBA from Rochester Institute of Technology, and is a Chevening Sr. Gurukul
Scholar in Leadership and Excellence from the London School of Economics.
AARON MANIAM
Aaron Maniam is currently Deputy Director at the Strategic Policy Office of the Public Service Division, where
he leads a team that analyses long-term inter-agency issues. From May 2006 to January 2008, he served as First
Secretary at Singapore's Embassy to Washington, DC. In his community work, Aaron has served as a resource
person for Singapore's National Youth Council and a Member of the Executive Committee of Mendaki Club, a
group of young Muslim professionals in Singapore. He was Director for Fundraising and Special Services with
the Washington DC chapter of the Hugh O' Brian Youth Foundation, a 501(c)(3) youth leadership body. As Vice
President (2003-2005) and President (2005-July 2006) of the Debate Association (Singapore), Aaron was
active in promoting debating among Singaporean youths. He continues to judge debating competitions and conduct workshops for

schools. He will be one of the Chief Adjudicators at the 2008 World Schools Debating Championship, to be held in Washington, DC.
Aaron won the First Prize for English Poetry in the 2003 National Arts Council-Singapore Press Holdings Golden Point Award. His first
collection of poems, Morning at Memory's Border, was shortlisted for the biennial Singapore Literature Prize in 2007. He graduated from
Oxford and Yale on a Singapore Public Service Commission scholarship.
SYED NASIM MANZUR
Syed Nasim Manzur is a managing director of Apex Footwear Ltd, the first export-oriented leather shoe factory in
Bangladesh and second largest footwear retailer in that country. Apex is an Italian joint venture and the largest
footwear exporter with 2008 revenues of over US$81million and more than 5000 employees. He also serves as
Director of Apex Tannery Ltd, the largest tannery in Bangladesh. Syed helped set up Grey Dhaka, the first joint
venture advertising agency in Bangladesh and now a WPP company, and Quantum Market Research BD Ltd, the
leader in qualitative market research and now serves as managing director for both. He led the acquisition of a
pharmaceutical plant that is now Apex Pharma and will be commissioning its new GMP Plant in August. Syed is
currently the Vice President of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the oldest business chamber in Bangladesh, and a
director of Pioneer Insurance Ltd the fifth largest insurer in the country. He is a trustee for the Society for Promotion of Bangladesh Art, a
member of the SuperBrands Advisory Council, and is also associated with a mass literacy program called Ganoshikhya Andolon. He is
also enjoying his stint as guest faculty teaching international business in the BBA program at the Institute of Business Administration
(IBA), Dhaka University, the premier business school in Bangladesh. Syed completed his BS Economics in entrepreneurial management
from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania in 1990.
KHET MAR
Khet Mar is a writer and a journalist from Myanmar. She started writing short stories in 1989 while Myanmar was
going through political turmoil, and most of her short stories are related to the lives and struggling of ordinary
people. She has worked for a business magazine named "Dana" as a journalist since 2001. She is a co-founder of
Zagawa Environmental Net Work which was founded in 2006 by several writers and journalists. Members of this
network created a website (www.Zagawa.info) and have tried to publish a collection of short stories, articles, poems
and features about environmental issues. In 2008, when Cyclone Nargis hit Myanmar, Khet established a group of
volunteers for relief work and led them in supporting victims in the delta of Myanmar. She was a visiting fellow at
the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa and is City of
Asylum/Pittsburgh's current writer-in-residence. She received her BS Chemistry degree from Yangon University in 1995.
DARWIN D.J. MARIANO
At the age of 15, Darwin D.J. Mariano was elected as the youngest youth council chairperson of Quezon City under
the first youth council elections. He was later elected Vice President for Luzon of the First National Youth
Parliament. He was appointed to the National Youth Consultative Task Force that helped prepare the new
government's youth agenda in 2001. In 1996, Darwin founded the Roco for President Youth Movement, which
became Aksyon Kabataan, the youth arm of the late Senator Raul Roco's political party, Aksyon Demokratiko
(Democratic Action). He served as spokesperson for Raul Roco during the 1998 and 2004 presidential elections. In
2006, Darwin published his first book entitled Unfortunate Consequences: Legal Barriers to Ill-Gotten Wealth
Recovery with a foreword written by former Senate President and first Presidential Commission on Good
Government Chairman, Jovito R. Salonga. As Public Affairs Director for CEMEX Philippines and Asia, he organized the CEMEX Adopta-Species program, a comprehensive campaign to protect the Philippines' threatened species through greater private sector participation in
biodiversity conservation. He continues to be involved in private sector initiatives that support good governance, public education and
environmental protection in the country. Darwin studied psychology at the University of the Philippines in Diliman. He completed his law
degree at the University of the Philippines. At graduation, his legal research paper entitled: Legal and Jurisprudential Barriers to the
Recovery of Ill-Gotten Wealth was awarded the Generoso V. Jacinto Prize for Best Paper in Remedial Law.
SHAFFI MATHER
Shaffi Mather is the Founder of Dial 1298 for Ambulance. He is part of an upcoming new generation of young
leaders within the Indian National Congress Party. He was educated at the Mahatma Gandhi University, University
of Pittsburgh, University of Bridgeport, and the London School of Economics, where he was a Chevening Senior
Scholar and currently, a Visiting Lecturer. He was selected to be a Mason Fellow at the JFK School of Government,
Harvard University for the academic year 2007-08. Post MBA, Shaffi took his family business in real estate to a
leadership position in his state and then professionally worked with two of India’s leading corporate tycoons, Mukesh
Ambani (Reliance Industries) and Subash Chandra (Zee TV/Essel Group). Shaffi’s most notable

accomplishment has been the successful establishment of an Emergency Medical Service (EMS) “DIAL 1298 FOR AMBULANCE”
(www.1298.org.in) in Mumbai, the first truly world-class self-sustainable EMS in India. This project is now under expansion in Mumbai

BATCHIMEG MIGEDDORJ
Batchimeg Migeddorj recently joined the President’s Office as a National Security Policy Advisor to the President of
Mongolia. Previously, she served as a researcher for the Institute for Strategic Studies of Mongolia and later as a Head
of the Ulaanbaatar Trade and Economic Representative Office in Taipei. Her main research subjects are China and
major powers' relations in Northeast Asia. She has published numerous articles at home and abroad on related topics.
She completed her studies at Beijing Language and Culture University in 1995, and obtained a Masters degree in
political science at the National Defense University of Mongolia. Currently, she is a PhD candidate at
National Taiwan University.
WAJMA MOHSENI
Wajma Mohseni is the Director of MOBY Group, a pioneering Afghan organization whose major initiatives
developed a thriving media and entertainment industry in Afghanistan. At MOBY, Wajma leads the advertising
and marketing strategy implementation across 12 businesses, including the award-winning TOLO TV and
popular brands ARMAN FM and LEMAR TV. She spearheaded programs such as Afghan Star, a hugely popular
talent quest that went on to inspire a documentary by the same name and subsequently won two Sundance Film
Festival awards. Prior to joining MOBY, Wajma worked in marketing and communications at
leading organizations including NEC Australia, Telstra's Sensis and Australian internet startup, Virtual Communities. She is the author of
eBusiness Made Easy, a small to medium business technology guide that reached over 25,000 businesses around Australia. She completed
her degree in Business (Marketing) from Monash University in Australia.
JOMPHONG MONGKHONVANIT
Jomphong Mongkhonvanit is Rector of the Siam Institute of Technology and Assistant President of Siam
University in Thailand. He regularly lectures, writes and comments on regional competitiveness, human
development and social issues. As the author of numerous international publications and books such as Regional
Development in a Knowledge Economy, Jomphong has served as a consultant to various international
organizations and governmental agencies. He was recently appointed as Advisor to the Deputy Prime Minister.
Jomphong holds academic degrees from Harvard University, Columbia University, University of WisconsinMadison, and University of Bath.
WESTLEY “WES” WATENDE MOORE
Westley “Wes” Watende Moore is an investment banker for Citigroup. A former White House Fellow, Wes served
as Special Assistant to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. As a paratrooper and Captain in the United States Army
Reserves, he served a combat tour of duty in Afghanistan and spearheaded the American strategic support plan for
the Afghan Reconciliation Program that unites former insurgents with the new Afghan Government. He completed
an MLitt in International Relations from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar. Wes graduated Phi Beta Kappa from
Johns Hopkins University in 2001 with a degree in international relations, and currently serves on its Board of
Trustees. He is authoring a book entitled Elevate: American Journeys into Manhood published by Random House,
for a highly anticipated 2009 release.
FAWAD AHMAD MUSLIM
Fawad Ahmad Muslim is the CEO and President of Jahaan Technology Corporation, an IT company he started in
2006, after resigning from the Afghan government. Jahaan Technology Corporation is a software development
company with over 150 employees and which is also the main partner of Microsoft in Afghanistan. He returned to
Afghanistan in December 2001, and worked at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a Director-General of
Communication & Archives. There, he built the first IT department and training center and trained over 2,600
government employees. Fawad received a degree in Computer Science from George Mason University, Virginia.

AHMAD NADER NADERY
Ahmad Nader Nadery is a Commissioner at the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission. He represented
Afghan Civil Society at the UN peace talks for Afghanistan in the Bonn Conference 2001. Ahmad also works as
Chairperson of the Fair and Free Election Foundation of Afghanistan. He is a member of the Steering Committee of
Citizens Against Terror and is a member of the advisory board of the Open Society Institute (OSI) Afghanistan
programs. He has written extensively on politics and human rights in Afghanistan and is a member of the Board of
Editors of the Oxford Journal on Transitional Justice. He served as Spokesperson for the national assembly (Loya
Jirga) in 2002. Prior to his appointment at the AIHRC, he worked as country director for the international human
rights law group, Global Rights. Ahmad won several international awards and was recognized as an "Asian Hero" by Time Magazine in
2004. He was recognized as Young Global Leader (YGL) by the World Economic Forum in 2008. He studied law and political science at
Kabul University and earned his Masters degree in International Affairs from George Washington University.
LENA NAHLOUS
Lena Nahlous is Executive Director of Information and Cultural Exchange (ICE), with 16 years’ experience in
non-government arts, cultural and media organizations. She has managed initiatives that have engaged thousands,
particularly women, refugees, migrants and young people. Under Lena's leadership, ICE has grown ten-fold in
terms of projects and scope. Lena established Artfiles, an employment program for artists, the Switch Digital Arts
Access Centre, and was a co-founder of the Arab Film Festival. She undertook an Asialink Arts Fellowship to
Hong Kong, and completed the Asialink Leadership program. She participated in the Australia 2020 Summit and
was named one of Sydney's 100 Creative Catalysts in 2009.
HAFEZ NAZERI
Hafez Nazeri, son of legendary musician Shahram Nazeri, is Iran's most influential and admired new composer and
singer. Together, they have introduced Persian/Sufi music to the Western world. By the age of nine, Hafez had
already begun to perform alongside his father. In 2000, Hafez assembled a talented group of young performers to
form the Rumi Ensemble. These musical innovations not only reached younger audiences, they also had an impact
on the musical scene in Iran and beyond. With 140,000 in attendance, the Rumi Ensemble's concerts in Tehran set
a record for the entire Middle East. At the age of 21, in search of new artistic ground, Hafez came to New York to
study western classical music. Along with new members of his Rumi Ensemble, Hafez launched "In the Path of
Rumi," a highly successful North American tour which performed record-breaking, soldout concerts, to rave reviews. The venues included The Atlanta Symphony Hall and Los Angeles' Kodak theater - the most highly attended
Persian classical music concert outside of Iran. Hafez received the UCLA Creativity Award for Most Distinguished Young Composer, The
Irvine City Hall Award of Distinction in Kurdish music, and The United Nations Association for his innovation in Music. February 25,
2006 was named Hafez Nazeri Day in San Diego County. Hafez has lectured at Emory University and Harvard University. He released a
new CD called The Passion of Rumi, which the LA Times and the Boston Globe chose as one of the five best CDs in World Music for
2007. In November 2009, Hafez Nazeri became the first Iranian Headline musician to perform at the legendary Carnegie Hall Stern
Auditorium. In 2005, he received a Diploma in Composition and Conducting from the Mannes College of Music.

Henry B. Nguyen is the founder and Managing General Partner of IDG Ventures Vietnam, a venture capital firm
focused on investing in private businesses in Vietnam from inception to growth stages. The firm focuses on

John O’Loghlen is a Co-Founder of Gung Ho Ventures, a platform launching new restaurant brands in China.
Previously, John led Domino's Pizza's new market entry into Asia following five years with Goldman Sachs in
London and New York, finally transitioning to Goldman Sachs’ Chairman John Thornton's China advisory business
in 2005. Prior to this, John managed an executive recruitment start-up in Eastern Europe. John's other interests
include being a Director of export start-up New Zealand Spring Water Limited and a Government appointed advisor
to New Zealand Trade's China Beachheads program. Outside of business, John is COO of Oxford-based Harry

SHARMEEN OBAID CHINOY
Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy is a documentary filmmaker who has worked in over 10 countries producing and
reporting on 14 films for CNN, PBS, Discovery Channel and Channel 4 (U.K.) Her work has earned her major
awards in broadcast journalism including the Overseas Press Club Award, The American Women in Radio and
Television award, The Cine Golden Eagle Award, The Banff TV Rockie Award, and the South Asian Journalist
Award. She is the first non-American journalist to be awarded the prestigious Livingston Award and the youngest
recipient of the One World Media broadcast journalist of the year award in the United Kingdom.
Sharmeen is also the founder and president of The Citizens Archive of Pakistan, a not-for-profit educational institution and heritage centre
established in Karachi in February 2007 with the aim of strengthening civil society and unleashing the creativity of Pakistanis, allowing
them to express and explore their heritage and history.
AHMAD IZHAM OMAR
Ahmad Izham Omar is the CEO of 8TV. He has launched businesses in multiple industries. In music, he started
the legendary Positive Tone record label in 1994. In 2003, after selling Positive Tone to EMI, he became CEO of
8TV, which became a big hit with its innovative programming. In 2006, as Head of Media Prima Radio he
launched Fly FM and Hot FM, now the #2 English language station and #1 station for under 35s in Malaysia,
respectively. He recently launched One FM this year. Izham also launched Monkey Bone, a record label, which
produces many of Malaysia's most popular artists. In 2009, Izham was appointed CEO of Alt Media, Media
Prima's foray into digital media. Izham is a multi award-winning music producer, arranger, songwriter and
musician, recently awarded VIMA's Lifetime Achievement Award. Izham is on the Board of Trustees for the
Asian Television Awards.
AZRAN OSMAN RANI
Azran Osman Rani is currently CEO of AirAsiaX, a global pioneer in low-cost long-haul aviation. He led the
start-up from concept, capital raising, securing licenses, and launch in four months. AirAsiaX achieved RM1
billion sales and carried 1 million passengers in less than two years, operating profitably in 2009 while most
global airlines suffered major losses. AirAsiaX was awarded Best New Airline in 2008. Azran was the former
Business Development Director of Astro All Asia Networks, a leading media joint ventures and investments in
Indonesia, China and India. Azran is a former associate partner of McKinsey & Company with extensive
consulting experience across Southeast Asia and Korea. He has Masters and Bachelors degrees from Stanford
University. He plays ultimate Frisbee, enjoys surfing and is a marathon junkie.

Vivek Pandit is a Partner in McKinsey's India Office where he serves as the leader of McKinsey's Corporate Finance and Principal Investing
practices and is a leader of McKinsey's Global High-Tech, Media and Telecom practices. Prior to returning to India in 2005, Vivek was a
Partner in McKinsey's New York office. He is an author of Granularity of Growth: Asia, The Rising Remote Infrastructure Management
Opportunity: Establishing India's leadership, and Nasscom-McKinsey Strategic Review, among several other pieces on strategy and hightechnology. Since Vivek returned to India, he has led several non-profit grassroots initiatives in education and healthcare. Among these
are helping to found Teach for India, a national teaching corps, and developing St. Jude's India Childcare Centers, providing access to
cancer treatment and pastoral care for some of India's poorest children. In recognition, he was awarded an India Leadership Initiative
fellowship from the Aspen Institute in 2008. He serves on the Board of Governors of The Doon School, India's leading secondary residential
school, on the Leadership Council of the University of Pennsylvania's Center for Advanced Studies of India, and as an advisor on policy
to select government ministries. Vivek earned a BS (magna cum laude) in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science from the University
of California anda Masters degree in Engineering and Management from Stanford University, where he was a Valentine Fellow.
RASHNEH PARDIWALA
Rashneh Pardiwala is the Founder & Director of the Centre for Environmental Research and Education (CERE), a
Mumbai-based non-profit organization that works to promote environmental sustainability through formal education,
corporate partnerships, public awareness campaigns and legal advocacy. Her organization has successfully completed
many rural and urban, national-level research and development projects. She has consulted different government
departments, helped integrate environmental education into mainstream curriculum, published more than 25 titles, and
produced short films on global warming. In 2005, Rashneh was recognized as a 'Social Entrepreneur for Change' and
was awarded an Ashoka Fellowship. She is an ecologist from the University of Edinburgh having specialized in the
field of Climate Change.
PARAG PATEL
Parag Patel is a Senior Director of the VMware division at EMC Corporation. One of the world's largest technology
companies, EMC is a $10 billion leader in storage and information management products. Parag has held numerous
executive sales and marketing positions in the industry and has also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in West
Africa and remains active in various international development-related activities. Parag completed BAs in Electrical
Engineering and History, from Stanford University. He then completed an MBA at Harvard University. He is an
expert on regional issues (India and South Asia), science and technology, high technology, and Third World
development.
TITIPOL PHAKDEEWANICH
Titipol Phakdeewanich is a political scientist and university lecturer at the Ubon Ratchathani University in Thailand.
The university is located in the comparatively undeveloped north-eastern region of Thailand known as Isan, where
the majority of the population are rural people, and the dominant sector in the local economy is agriculture.
Therefore, as a political scientist and university lecturer, Titipol’s role is not simply restricted to university-based
teaching and conducting research. In addition, he believes that his role must also involve the promotion of political
empowerment in disregarded communities such as these. The rural population of Isan tends to underestimate their
potential contribution in relation to the process of democratization taking place in Thailand today. Titipol received
his PhD in 2005 from the University of Warwick.
JIMMY (TUAN) PHAM
Jimmy Pham is the Founder and CEO of KOTO International, a not-for-profit vocational training program and
restaurant. KOTO (Know One, Teach One) started as a small sandwich shop in Hanoi, giving nine street kids jobs,
skills and most importantly, hope for a better life. KOTO is now a 120-seat restaurant, registered charity and highly
regarded vocational training program, where its students learn the hospitality skills that will become the silver
bullet to end the cycle of poverty. The 24-month program teaches English, health, hygiene, sports, and community
and other life skills. These necessary skills will not only empower the KOTO students for life, but give them dignity
and pride. The KOTO program is an internationally-recognized training centre through Australia's Box Hill
Institute of TAFE, and is renowned locally as the premier training institution by all major hotels and international
restaurants in Vietnam. In 2005, ABC Australia aired the program "Jimmy's Kitchen,"

which was viewed by an audience of millions. In 2006, Jimmy received the prestigious James Strong Outstanding Leadership Award for
his achievements. Jimmy's vision is that the KOTO concept will be replicated throughout Vietnam and Asia, giving thousands more street
kids hope, dignity and the life changing skills that KOTO has brought to the streets of Hanoi.
MITCHELL PHAM
Mitchell Pham is co-founder of the Augen Software Group. Born in Vietnam, Mitchell Pham first came to New Zealand
as a refugee at the age of 13. Since its founding in 1993, the Augen Software Group now encompasses a number of
companies in both New Zealand and Vietnam. Today, Mitchell works as a strategy advisor to a number of organizations
with high-growth potential and innovation opportunities. He also advises in a number of New Zealand-Asia government
initiatives, trade missions, and research projects. Mitchell is currently a member of the Action Asia Advisory Group, a
team that advises the New Zealand government on business sector engagements with countries of Asia. He is also an active
Asia 21 Fellow, a member of the Vietnam Strategic Ventures
Network, as well as an Executive Committee member of the Vietnamese Overseas Business Entrepreneurs Network. Mitchell is a keen
supporter of the Asia-New Zealand Foundation and of efforts to encourage New Zealand organizations to engage more with Asia. He also
supports not-for-profit organizations in the community healthcare/disability/social services sector and the fitness industry. Mitchell studied
information and communications technology at university.
TRUC PHAM-DINH
Truc Pham-dinh is the Head of the Department of Power Machines and Equipment for the Faculty of Electrical and
Electronic Engineering at Vietnam National University. After living and studying in Australia and the UK for 10
years, Truc went back to Vietnam with a PhD in Electrical Engineering. He now teaches at Vietnam National
University in Ho Chi Minh City and was the youngest Head-of-Department at a Vietnamese university when
appointed in 2006. Truc is an energetic leader, educator and scientist. He has facilitated international collaborative
relationships between universities as well as multinational industries, such as the collaboration with
Emerson Network Power (USA), for an on-campus engineering design centre, the first of its kind in Vietnam. He established the National
Committee for Vietnam's Open Courseware, a project for modernization of higher education in Vietnam, funded by the Vietnam Education
Foundation USA (www.vef.gov). He also pioneered an international project to develop a research and education centre for sustainable
energy in the Indochina region.
MEI PIN PHUA
Phua Mei Pin is Deputy Director (Industry) in the Singaporean Ministry of Trade and Industry, where she has been tasked to bring to
fruition two multi-billion dollar integrated casino resorts. These unprecedented developments are expected to create 60,000 jobs economywide and contribute 1.6 percent of GDP. Besides facilitating the success of the projects, she makes sure she can sleep at night by tackling
the security and social imperatives to preserve the character of a country where casinos were banned for over 40 years. In a multi-faceted
public service career, Mei Pin has performed as a diplomat covering the Malaysia, Brunei, Middle East and Central Asia desks, represented
Singapore at the 61st United Nations General Assembly, served as General Manager of a municipal Government department, and developed
and rolled out a public service reform agenda in the Prime Minister's Office. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard with a degree in
literature, but the public service gave her a job anyway. She serves on the committees of several charitable organizations.
JIA PING
Jia Ping is Chief Executive Director and Founder of Global Fund Watch (China Initiative), a watchdog
nongovernmental organization that combats AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. He is also the Chief Lawyer for the
Project of Friends, which is the leading MSM Network on the Chinese Mainland and recently received the
UNAIDS award for its contributions to fighting AIDS. He also served on the experts’ committee for HIV/AIDS of
China’s Center for Disease Control. Jia is a tireless advocate for the rights of people living with or affected by
HIV/AIDS, sex workers, migrant people, drug users, and homosexuals. He aims to bring the rights of these socially
marginalized groups under Chinese constitutional law into accord with international standards. Jia also served as
executive director of Tsinghua University’s human rights and constitutional law center, and as the
lawyer responsible for health education at the Beijing Ai Zhi Xing Institute. He graduated from Renmin University and East China law
schools and was a visiting scholar at the Columbia University Center for the Study of Human Rights in 2005.

TONY PUA
Tony Pua is the Member of Parliament for Petaling Jaya Utara under the Democratic Action Party (DAP). He was
also elected the DAP National Publicity Secretary and heads the party's Economic Policy Bureau. Before joining
politics full-time in January 2007, he was the CEO of a Malaysian IT company which he founded in March 1997, just
before the Asian Financial Crisis. He successfully listed the company on the Singapore Exchange in August 2001 and
became the youngest CEO-founder of a listed company in Singapore at the age of 29. Tony has since divested all his
shares in the company to serve the community and take part in socio-political affairs of Malaysia. Tony graduated
with a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Keble College, Oxford University on a
scholarship from MTC Foundation.
PRITI RADHAKRISHNAN
Priti Radhakrishnan is the Co-Founder and Co-Director of Initiatives For Medicines, Access & Knowledge (IMAK), a team of lawyers and scientists working with governments, scientists, procurers, and suppliers to strengthen
patent systems. The team conducts pharmaceutical patent analysis to encourage innovation in new medicines while
also assuring broad access to the best and latest treatments. Her recent accomplishments include working with the
Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative and the World Health Organization on issues of intellectual property and
access to treatment. In 2008, Priti was awarded the Echoing Green Fellowship for social entrepreneurs and was
named a Pop!Tech Social Innovation Fellow. Along with her Co-Director at I-MAK, she has worked on issues
impacting several countries, including India, the Philippines, Malaysia, China, Brazil,
Nigeria and Mexico. Prior to founding I-MAK, she served as the Senior Project Officer of the Lawyers Collective HIV/AIDS Unit in India.
She obtained her law degree from the New York University (NYU) School of Law and has worked as a health attorney in the US,
Switzerland and India. Her work as a public health advocate has merited recognition: she recently coordinated the efforts of TEAM VINAY
– a movement that registered 25,000 new bone marrow donors in the South Asian American community, which received the National
Marrow Donor Program's Lieutenant General Frank E. Peterson Jr. award for innovation and commitment to minority recruitment &
retention of bone marrow donors.
LAKSHMAN NAMAL RAJAPAKSA
Lakshman Namal Rajapaksa is the Chairman of the Tharunyata Hetak (Aspiring Youth) program. His credo in life is to bring peace to Sri
Lanka starting with the nation's youth; instilling patriotism and universal harmony to bring everyone together. Even though most Sri Lankan
youth come from different backgrounds, Namal is determined to put aside immaterial differences like religion, caste, race, social standing
and financial status to strengthen peace and unity in Sri Lanka. Hailing from a notably political family (his father, the Honorable Mahinda
Percy Rajapaksa, is the sixth president of Sri Lanka, and his mother, Shiranthi Rajapaksa, was Miss Ceylon 1978), he has always been at
the forefront to help people and offer solutions to problems that are ever-present in this modern day. He travels around the world extensively
and participates in many youth-related events by spearheading the Aspiring Youth program. Having started community development work
ever since he was 16 years, he is at the forefront of achieving as much as he can for Sri Lankan youth. Presently, Namal is finishing a law
degree at a prestigious university in London.
SANTHOSH RAMDOSS
Santhosh Ramdoss is a Program Manager at BRAC, the world's largest anti-poverty organization with its roots in
Bangladesh. At BRAC, he is currently a key resource in a $20 million development initiative in Uganda, impacting
the lives of 1.5 million people. Santhosh is also the co-founder of ProGreen, a fast-growing social business which
manufactures eco-friendly disposable tableware in rural India. The venture has won multiple international business
plan competitions and currently exports products to buyers in Europe and the United States. Santhosh is also the
founding editor at thinkchangeindia.org, India's leading blog on social entrepreneurship and social innovation. He
graduated with an MBA from Bharathidasan Institute of Management, one of the top business schools in India and
with an MPA from NYU Wagner. At NYU, he received the Jo Ivey Boufford award for innovation in recognition
of his efforts in identifying cross-sectoral
solutions for social change, and also the Howard G. Newman Award for exemplary work done by a capstone team. He was also a
Catherine B. Reynolds Foundation Fellow in Social Entrepreneurship at NYU.
KATHLEEN REEN
Kathleen Reen is the Vice President for Asia, Environment and New Media Programs with Internews, an
international non-profit media development organization devoted to increasing access to information for people
worldwide. She oversees projects across Asia countries including China, Thailand and Afghanistan

and has worked on media and development projects throughout Asia since 1998, when she founded Internews’s media support program in
Indonesia. She has led research, training, and grant-giving initiatives including efforts to support the rebuilding of Timor’s devastated
media environment and the establishment of a national media assistance program in Pakistan. In 2005, she worked with dedicated teams
of professionals and volunteers providing urgent information via radio and satellite to populations affected by the tsunami in Indonesia and
Sri Lanka. Kathleen’s first overseas assignment was in Cambodia in 1993, where she was the youngest registered journalist to cover the
U.N.-sponsored elections. She was deployed to the Balkans with the UN Peacekeeping (UNPROFOR) in 1994 and reported on the war in
Bosnia. She was a founder-coordinator of the Global Forum for Media Development (GFMD) and in 2007 became a fellow of the Flow
Fund, a three-year program in “venturesome philanthropy” that aims to increase the number of philanthropists worldwide.
MICHAEL RIADY
Michael Riady works with his family's organization, the Lippo Group, with assets over US$10 billion and
a business presence throughout the Asian region. For the last six years, Michael has been mainly involved
in the Real Estate Group, managing over US$2.5 billion worth of developments in Indonesia alone. He
holds several senior managing director positions in the group and oversees the whole operation aspects of
a development from acquisition, permits, design, concepts, marketing, finance, and construction. Michael
has experiences in retail malls, residential, hotels, office and mixed-use developments. He is also involved
in the business development side, seeking real estate opportunities globally. Michael previously worked
with Fidelity Investments, Independent Capital Management, and Manatt, Phelps & Phillips law firm in
Los Angeles. Michael is a member of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce or KADIN-Real Estate chapter, for the period 2009-2014.
He received his Bachelors from California State University, Fullerton, and is a candidate of the UCLA-NUS Executive MBA School.
PIR MUHAMMAD SADIQ
Pir Muhammad Sadiq is Chairman of Hazrat Sultan Oliya Foundation and Pir Gul Hassan Shah Trust. These two
organizations support free medical camps, educational scholarships, safe drinking water projects, and, through an
NGO (NISHAT Welfare Organization), they have sanitation and community development works under way. At
the age of 17, Muhammad inherited 5,000 acres of agricultural estate from his late father in the Sindh province of
Pakistan and became the spiritual leader of the Luari Jamat (community) of two million people, mainly Sufi
Muslims and Hindus spread in three major provinces of Pakistan,(Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan) and across the
globe. Along with managing his estate, in 2000 he established new lines of business which include coal mining,
power generation, livestock, construction, and commodity trading. Presently, he is Founder and Chairman of The
Luaripak Group which includes the following main companies: 150MW Dir
Hydro Power Project (Pvt) Ltd., 50MW Luaripak Energy (Pvt) Ltd., a wind power company, and 200MW Badin Electric Power Company
(Pvt) Ltd., a thermal project. These three above mentioned projects are at various development stages. M/S Luaripak Investments (Pvt)
Ltd., a construction and commodity trading company, successfully imported 35,000MT of Urea for the Trading Corporation of Pakistan
in 2005. Asian Mining (Pvt) Ltd. holds the rights over 2,000 acres of coal mines at Lakhra Fields Sindh, Pakistan. Pak-Emirates Livestock
(Pvt) Ltd. manages 1000 cattle heads at Qazi Ahmed Sindh, Pakistan. Muhammad received his BA in Pakistan.
LOBSANG SANGAY
Lobsang Sangay is a Research Fellow at the East Asian Legal Studies Program at Harvard Law School. Lobsang
earned his Doctorate in law, and Masters degree from Harvard Law School, and did his LLB and BA (Honors)
from Delhi University, India. He was a recipient of the 2004 Yong K. Kim' 95 Prize of Excellence for his doctoral
dissertation and received a Fulbright Fellowship to study at Harvard Law School. In his Track II Initiative, Lobsang
has organized five unprecedented conferences between Chinese and Tibetan scholars, including an unprecedented
meeting between HH the Dalai Lama and 35 Chinese scholars at Harvard University in 2003. As an expert on Tibet,
international human rights laws, democracy and conflict resolution, he has been consulted by the news media,
including BBC, Washington Post, Far Eastern Economic Review, and The Boston
Globe and has published articles about the Tibetan issue in the Harvard Asia Quarterly and Journal of Democracy, to name a few.
JOTHIMANI SENNIMALAI
Jothimani Sennimalai serves in the Office of the National Secretary of the Indian Youth Congress. As a young
girl inspired by the ideals of Gandhiji's Gram Swaraj (Village Self Rule), she seized the opportunity to work
for the development of her village. Starting as an elected civic representative at the age of 22, she served 10
years in that capacity, deepening her socio-political work with poor and marginalized people. In a national
talent search within the party, Jothimani was identified for her potential and was promoted to her

current position. She works with a committed team of leaders in revamping the Indian Youth Congress - to democratize, to motivate
youth, cultivate leadership in the cadre and youth of India.
DURREEN SHAHNAZ
Durreen Shahnaz is Head of the Programme on Social Innovation and Change and Adjunct Associate Professor at
the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKY School) at the National University of Singapore. Durreen has
been a changemaker throughout her career which has spanned both the social and private sector. As a successful
social entrepreneur, she founded, ran and sold oneNest, a New York-based social purpose business which operated
a marketplace for products produced by microfinance, micro enterprises and artisan groups from all over the world.
Recently, Durreen founded Impact Investment Exchange Asia, a social stock exchange which will allow Asian
social enterprises to raise growth capital. Durreen began her career in the social sector at
Grameen Bank where she played a critical role in the bank's first major capital raising exercise. At the World Bank, she evaluated nonperforming loan portfolios for the East Africa Department and at International Finance Corporation she assisted in selling Ashanti, the
largest gold mine in the world for the Ghanaian government. In the private sector, Durreen worked as an investment banker at Morgan
Stanley before moving to the media sector. As the head of three regional media companies (Asia City Publishing Group, Hearst Magazines
International and Reader's Digest Asia), she worked vigorously to incorporate social responsibility in these companies' work. Durreen
holds a BA from Smith College (double major in Economics and Government); and a joint graduate degree -- MBA from Wharton School,
University of Pennsylvania (Finance) and MA from the School for Advanced International Studies at Johns Hopkins University
(International Economics and International Relations).
VINITA A. SHETTY
Vinita A. Shetty is a Senior Editor at DNA, India's fastest growing English daily. She heads the Editorial Team
and has a special interest in social reform, grass-roots education, advocacy issues and highlighting social injustices.
Vinita has over 11 years of journalistic experience with leading newspapers like the Times of India and Asian Age
- spanning investigative reporting, development issues, human rights violations and urban infrastructure issues. In
2007, she was appointed City Editor for the launch of Bangalore Mirror, the city's first compact daily, and headed
the city reporting teams and news room operations. She has also researched, scripted and anchored TV projects

member of I-volunteer, which provides assistance to terminally ill children, the elderly, and the physically

Network of Women in Media, India (NWMI). Vinita lives in Bangalore with her husband and enjoys photography, horse-riding and
mentoring young writers. Vinita graduated from Christ University in Journalism, Psychology and English.
SMITA SINGALKAR
Smita Singalkar is a practicing women’s rights activist and lawyer in the Nagpur District and High Court. She works for Human Rights
and Law Defenders (HRLD) by directly intervening in the courts and providing legal aid to women prisoners and victims of domestic
violence. Smita works to make the judiciary sensitive about the issues related to women and trying to empower the victims of violence to
come ahead and fight for their rights. She completed her studies in medicine and later studied law.
DEEPIKA SINGH
Deepika Singh is the Founder and Director of Udaan, an organization that focuses on issues of access and quality of primary education.
Udaan is currently a program of JANVIKAS, a 20-year-old organization. Deepika’s major areas of work are training of rural youth as
educators; training of public school teachers on perspective building; content creation for primary school children to mainstream values of
diversity, democracy and citizenship; and networking and liaising with government institutions and other organizations. She has designed
and executed interventions for creating access to education, improving quality of education of public schools, use of community media for
improving quality of education, education of Muslim children and educational interventions with children affected by communal violence.

SABRINA SINGH
Sabrina Singh is an astronaut trainer for NASA working with Japanese, Russian, European and US astronauts on
spacesuits and living sustainably with limited resources in space. As the founder of NASA Everest Treks, she leads
hiking expeditions to remote Himalayan mountains and also conducts medical care and education outreach in
underserved areas. She is the founder and executive director of DUNK IT!, which uses sports culture to foster
education on humanitarian crises. Sabrina is a graduate of a national leadership development program called NASA
FIRST (Foundations of Influence, Relationships, Success, and Teamwork). She was also the recipient of a Rotary
International Foundation scholarship for the Egypt Group Study Exchange. In this role, she motivated and mentored
female engineering students. Sabrina also mentors graduating seniors at the American University of
Afghanistan in Kabul. She serves on the young professionals advisory board for the Houston World Affairs Council.
SEAGULL HAIYAN SONG
Seagull Haiyan Song is currently a Senior Counsel at the Walt Disney Company based in Shanghai. Prior to joining
Disney, Seagull was a partner at King and Wood, the largest law firm in China, and a consultant at Arnold & Porter
LLP. Seagull has been acclaimed as the "Asialaw Leading lawyer" in the field of Intellectual Property in 2006,
2007, 2008 and 2009. Seagull holds two LL.M degrees (Master of Law); one from the University of California
Berkeley School of Law in 2007, and another from Hong Kong University in 2002.
P.V. SREENIJIN
P.V. Sreenijin is an advocate who is also a social activist, youth leader and community worker. Born into a middle
class family with a strong value system, and a record of social and political initiative, Sreenijin plunged into
politics right from his school days. He soon emerged as a youth leader within the ranks of the Indian National
Congress, having created an identity as a visionary whose commitments to the most downtrodden in society won
him tremendous goodwill and accolades. In pursuit of social justice for the most marginalized within the Indian
community, he founded the Ambedkar Youth Wing inspired by the legendary dalit icon Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and
the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi. He has been closely associated with KELSAKerala State Legal Services Authority in organizing legal awareness camps across the state. As an advocate practicing in the High Courts
of Delhi and Kerala his area of focus includes constitutional law and human rights. He has also specialized in public interest litigation and
has been instrumental in setting up public advocacy groups which focus on dalits and youth empowerment. In light of his achievements,
the Congress party offered him an opportunity to contest elections to the Legislative Assembly. As one of the youngest candidates, he put
up a brave fight but lost the election by a margin of around 2000 votes. Thereafter, he has been active in the task force of the Congress
Party having travelled across rural India in a massive grassroots level campaign spearheaded by India's youth leader Rahul Gandhi. He has
also recently launched a blogspot called Talk with Sreenijin, which he intends to develop as a potent tool targeting the youth in his
campaigns for grassroots empowerment. He completed his BA and LLB from Mahatma Gandhi University. He received his LLM from
the University of Northampton.
RYAN STOKES
Ryan Stokes is a director of Australian Capital Equity (ACE), a private investment company with significant
interests in media and industrial equipment services across Australia and China. ACE is the largest shareholder in
the Seven Network Limited, a publicly-listed media company with interests in broadcast television, magazine
publishing, and online assets through a JV with KKR, the exclusive metropolitan WiMAX spectrum, the West

DORJEE SUN
Dorjee Sun is founder and CEO of Carbon Conservation, which he started to finance the preservation of tropical
rainforests and provide carbon credit revenues to local communities via avoiding deforestation. He has broken new
ground by engineering a moratorium on deforestation in three Indonesian provinces and bringing Green Governors
from Amazon and Indonesia together. Carbon Conservation's Aceh Forest was the world's first avoided deforestation
pilot project to receive the independent validation under the Climate Community Biodiversity Standards. By
avoiding 100M tons of CO2 from being emitted, it is one of the biggest carbon projects ever undertaken in history
and was subsequently the first standing rainforest to receive major investment from a Wall Street Bank when Merrill
Lynch committed $9M USD up to $430M USD to its protection. These deals are the
subject of a feature documentary The Burning Season narrated by Hugh Jackman and screened in cinemas and on PBS, BBC, ABC,
National Geographic and CBC. Dorjee, has also executed renewable energy and carbon projects in Asia and Australia and is now based in
Singapore. Last year, he won the African Rainforest Conservancy Earth Day Award which saw a new Chameleon species from Tanzania,
Kinyongia Dorjeesuni named after him. He was also recently selected as one of TIME Magazine's Heroes of the Environment 2009. He
graduated from UNSW with Law and Commerce degrees, a Diploma in Asian Studies majoring in Mandarin after studying for two years
on scholarship at Peking University in China.
ANAND SUNDERRAMAN
Anand Sunderraman co-founded Navayana with Ravikumar, an activist-writer of the dalit movement in India.
Anand was a journalist for a decade with The Hindu, Outlook, and Tehelka. Navayana is inspired by the radical
ideals of B.R. Ambedkar, one of the founders of modern India. In 2007, Anand won the British Council-London
Book Fair's International Young Publisher of the Year award. The judges said he was "a champion for greater
engagement with India's marginalized and underprivileged. He has a clear social agenda but, importantly, also a
real understanding of the economics of publishing, and a clear, long term vision." In 2008, his work as a social
entrepreneur won him the Ashoka award (http://www.ashoka.org/sanand). In 2009, Navayana implemented the Avarna scheme to train
dalits/adivasis as editors at Jadavpur University. Anand believes publishing can be a vehicle for social change. He is one of the foundermembers of the Independent Publishers Distribution Alternatives. The 2009 documentary film, Bhagwan Das: In Pursuit of Ambedkar,
scripted and directed by Anand, has been selected for screening at Film South Asia, September 2009, in Kathmandu. Anand received his
M.A. and M.Phil in literature from Central University, Hyderabad.
JACQUELINE ANN SURIN
Jacqueline Ann Surin is the Co-Founder and Editor of The Nut Graph and is the co-founder of
MalaysiaVotes.com. A journalist since 1994 with The Star, then The Edge and The Sun in Malaysia, she is
also the author of Shape of a Pocket. In 2007, she received the Excellence in Opinion Writing Award from the
Society of Publishers in Asia for her Shape of a Pocket column which she continues to keep at The Nut Graph.
She was also named by London-based Article 19 as the Pioneering Women's Voices Candidate for Malaysia
in commemoration of International Women's Day in 2007. She received an MA in Media Studies at Sussex
University in England as a Chevening scholar, and studied journalism in the United States under the Hubert
Humphrey Fellowship.
HENDRA SUTANDINATA
Hendra Sutandinata is the Founder & CEO of MVCommerce, an organization founded to help increase the global
competitiveness of rural and micro enterprises by improving their access to modern financial services. Hendra
started his career with the PC industry pioneer Tandon Corporation in California. In 1992, he left his position as
head of the Product Marketing Group for North America & Asia to become became the President of Zeuscom:
Indonesia's first PC manufacturer to design and build computers for global brands. Hendra founded MVCommerce
in 2002 to address the gap between the financial service industry and the rural & micro economies of developing
countries. The company has since been enabling Indonesian banks to extend their service reach beyond branches
and ATMs, as well as lowering the costs of servicing account holders. Recently, MVCommerce announced the
PonselPay service that enables micro and rural enterprises and individuals to use mobile phones to receive loans,
wages and grants, pay installments, bills and tickets; withdraw cash without an
ATM card, and conduct online payment transactions with millions of bank account holders and registered mobile subscribers of the same
and other telcos without having to open a bank account. Hendra received his Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Electrical
Engineering from Loyola Marymount University of Los Angeles, and an MBA from the University of Southern California.

Rusdy Syarief is currently Special Staff to the Vice Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) of
Indonesia where he leads a team that analyses political issues. He started to serve as Expert Staff with the People's
Representative Council (DPR) just this November. In his social work, Rusdy serves as Executive Director with the
Metaforma Institute: Center for Community and Social Development. From March 2002 to October 2005, he was a
Researcher with the Institute for the Study and Advancement of Business Ethics. He wrote a book with the title The
Politics of Central Bank: The Position of Bank Indonesia Governor in Defending Independence. From October 1999
to May 2006, he served as Lecturer with the Universitas Paramadina for the subject of Political Science with the
International Relations Department. He received a BA in Political Science from the University of Northern Iowa on
a tennis scholarship. He received a Masters degree in Southeast Asian Studies from the Northern Territory University, Australia
DAN FENG TAN
Tan Dan Feng is founder and CEO of software developer GistXL, a National Infocomm Awards winner engaged
in natural language processing and artificial intelligence research. He also heads Interlexis, a regional language
translation group serving major government and corporate customers. Since 2004, he has been executive director
of Select Books, an established Southeast Asian book retailer, distributor and publisher with close links to civil
society and NGOs. He has edited several books on Southeast Asian society, politics and culture. His interest is in
developing new models to deal with the burgeoning demand for cross-language communication.
HSU-MING TEO
Hsu-Ming Teo is a lecturer in the Department of Modern History at the University of Macquarie, and a novelist
and historian. In 1999, she won The Australian Vogel Literary Award for her first novel Love and Vertigo, which
was also short-listed for the inaugural Tasmania Pacific Region Literary Prize and the Dobbie Award for women's
fiction. It has been translated into German, Italian, Chinese and Thai. Her second novel, Behind the Moon, was
published in 2005 and was shortlisted for one of the New South Wales Premier's Literary Awards in 2006. Both
novels are studied in universities around the world. She is working on her third novel. From 2003 to 2005, HsuMing was a committee member of International PEN, Sydney Centre. She worked on the New South Wales
Premier's History and Literature Committee in 2004, and was a judge of the New South Wales Premier's
Literary Awards in 2007. Since 2007, she has served as a member of the Man Asian Literary Prize advisory panel. She is based in the
Department of Modern History, Macquarie University, Sydney, Australia. Hsu-ming is the editor of Cultural History in Australia, as well
as the author of a range of academic articles and book chapters on the history of travel and tourism, Orientalism, and popular fiction. She
is an editorial board member of the Journal of Australian Studies. She is currently completing a book on Loving the Orient: Orientalism
and Interracial Love Stories in Western Culture.
NAVIN THUKKARAM
Navin Thukkaram is a private investor. Previously, he was a Director at Vulcan Capital, the investment firm of Paul Allen,
Microsoft co-founder. Navin focuses on energy investments and served as a Director of Vulcan Energy Corporation
(ParentCo of Plains All American ($9B public company; NYSE: PAA) and Vulcan Resources Florida. Prior to Vulcan,
Navin worked in New York for JLL Partners, a private equity firm, and previously, Lazard and Deutsche Bank. Navin is a
fellow of the US-Japan Leadership Program, co-head of the American India Foundation Seattle chapter, and benefactor of

CHUNG TO
Chung To is founder and chairperson of Chi Heng Foundation, a charitable organization founded in 1998 in Hong
Kong, China (www.chihengfoundation.com). Utilizing innovative and pragmatic approaches, Chi Heng has
excelled in education and care for children orphaned by AIDS, and in HIV prevention among vulnerable groups.
Since 2002, Chung worked tirelessly in Central China for children orphaned by AIDS, whose parents contracted
the virus via unsanitary blood trade in the 1990s. Despite political sensitivity and other difficulties, Chung
developed a systematic and sustainable program which currently sponsors the education and

psychosocial care for 8,000 children whose parents have died of or are dying of AIDS in seven provinces in China. Viewed by many as a
best practice model of its kind, the program has become the largest non-governmental effort focusing on helping children impacted by

University. Before he began to work full time for Chi Heng on a pro bono basis, Chung worked in investment banking in New York and
Hong Kong for 10 years. Chung has received numerous awards, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award (2007) , Hong Kong's First
Humanity Award (2007), and Hong Kong's Leader of the Year Award (2008). In 2006, Chi Heng became the recipient of the inaugural
Asia 21 Public Service Award from the Asia Society and Merrill Lynch.
LHAWANG UGYEL
Lhawang Ugyel is a researcher and policy analyst for His Majesty’s Secretariat, in the court of the King of
Bhutan. Previously, he worked in the Royal Civil Service Commission for seven years and played a key role in
initiating various systemic and organizational reforms throughout the Bhutanese bureaucratic system. Lhawang
completed a Masters degree in International Development Studies from Cornell University, and plans to enroll
in the PhD program in Public Policy at the Australian National University in January 2010 through the Australian
Leadership Awards.

Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno is the Founding Partner of Saratoga Capital, a private equity/direct investment firm
he co-founded with Edwin Soeryadjaya in 1998. Saratoga Capital focuses its investments in natural resources
and infrastructure opportunities in Indonesia and Southeast Asia. He currently holds directorships at PT Adaro
Energy Tbk,, PT Mitra Global Telekomunikasi Indonesia and Interra Resources Limited. He also co-founded a
boutique investment firm, PT Recapital Advisors in 1997. Sandiaga graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor
of Business Administration from the Wichita State University in 1990 and obtained a Master of Business

Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI), serving from 2005-2008. Since March 2009, he also
holds the position of Vice President for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises and Cooperatives of the
Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin). He was Enterprise Asia’s 2008 Indonesian Entrepreneur of the Year. His hobby
is basketball and he was the Team Manager for the Indonesian Women National Basketball Team for the 2005 Southeast Asia Games in
Manila.
KA HSAW WA
Ka Hsaw Wa is a Co-Founder and the Executive Director of EarthRights International (ERI), a non-profit
organization that uses the power of law and the power of people in defense of human rights and the
environment. A member of the Karen ethnic nationality of Burma, he was one of the student leaders in the
1988 nationwide student uprising for democracy and freedom, and has been a human rights activist since he
fled Burma in 1988. During the mid-1990s, ERI led a precedent-setting lawsuit against a US corporation for
complicity in human rights abuses committed in Burma. Since the historic settlement in 2005, he has been
instrumental in the creation of new strategies for corporate and government accountability and continues to
provide innovative training programs aimed at building the capacity of indigenous peoples to protect their rights, restore control over
natural resources and conserve the environment. He has been awarded the Goldman Environmental Prize, Reebok Human Rights Award,
Whitley Fund for Nature/Sting and Trudie Styler Award for Human Rights and the Environment, the Conde Nast Environmental Award,
and the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership for his work in defense of human rights and the environment.
ALEXANDRA WAGNER
Alexandra Wagner is the Executive Director of Not On Our Watch. Founded by actors George Clooney, Brad Pitt,
Don Cheadle, and Matt Damon, Not On Our Watch is a non-profit advocacy and grant making organization that
uses leading cultural voices to draw attention to and combat mass atrocities. Alexandra is responsible for
developing and implementing the organization's global advocacy strategy and directing its grants to provide
humanitarian assistance and protection in regions of crisis (currently Darfur, Zimbabwe and Burma/Myanmar).
Before Not on Our Watch, Wagner served as Editor in Chief of The FADER magazine, reporting on national and
global cultural trends. Prior to this, she served as the Cultural Correspondent for the Center for American Progress,
a Washington, DC-based think tank.

TING HWAY WONG
Ting Hway Wong is a doctor at the Department of General Surgery at Singapore General Hospital. Previously, she
was a volunteer with Doctors without Borders and helps coordinate the Doctors without Borders Peer Support
Network in Singapore. She was the first Singaporean to work as a medical delegate with the International Committee
of the Red Cross. Back home in Singapore, she has served as volunteer committee chairman and council member of
HCA Hospice Care, the largest homecare hospice organization in Singapore. Conversant in several languages,
including English, Chinese, Spanish, French and Portuguese, she also speaks basic Malay, Arabic and Nepali. Nine
years after receiving her medical degree from Cambridge University, she decided to pursue a Masters in Public Health
from Johns Hopkins University, with an interest in injury epidemiology and health policy. When
not walking around the hospital, she tries to find time to belly-dance and write poetry.
THOM WOODROOFE
Thom Woodroofe is the founder of Left Right Think Tank, Australia's first independent and non-partisan think
tank of young minds, and was named the 2009 Young Victorian of the Year. In addition to Left Right, Thom is
also a youth expert consultant to Flamingo International based in Tokyo, and sits on the advisory board to Peace
Child International based in London which holds consultative status with the United Nations. Thom has been
recognized as a Global Changemaker by the British Council and has received a United States Congressional
Certificate of Special Recognition. In the future, Thom plans to continue his focus on
international affairs through further study and continued leadership positions with a desire to see Australia as a nation renowned for its
idea, vision and idealism. Thom is completing a Bachelor of Arts (Global) at Monash University where he is currently studying on exchange
at the University of California in the United States.
DANWEN XING
Xing Danwen, born in Xi'an, China, is an independent artist now based in BeijingChina. As a teenager, she had
already taken a four-year professional study in painting at the primary art school affiliated with the Xi'an Academy
of Fine Arts. From 1989 to to992, she continued painting and did her BFA at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in
Beijing. In the late 80s, she started photography, becoming one of a few artists in the late 80s and 90s in China who
explored the boundaries of photography and used photography as an art form. In 1998, she went to New York with
a grant and fellowship from the Asian Cultural Council. From 1998 to2001, she did her MFA at the School of
Visual Arts in New York. Xing Danwen exhibits domestically and internationally, including at the Whitney
Museum of American Art, Pompidou Center, International Center for Photography, Victoria and
Albert Museum, 1st Yokohama Triennale and Sydney Biennale 2004. Her artistic practice is both rich and varied and her subjects include:
dislocation between cultural status, conflicts between globalization and traditions, and problematic environmental issues created by
development.
KEIKO YAMAMOTO
Keiko Yamamoto is a journalist who joined NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation), in 1995 after receiving her
M.A. in International Development from Nagoya University, Japan. She has covered educational and social issues
including decreasing birthrates, gender inequality, and economic disparities in Japan. Keiko founded a female
journalist's association in 2001 wishing to create a professional network among female journalists in the country.
There are now two chapters, one in Tokyo and one in Nagoya, with current membership of over 250. Today, the
network has worked to introduce and foster such new concepts to Japanese society as the work-life balance,
diversity and supporting non-profit organizations through the positive use of media.
ZHEYU YANG
Zheyu Yang is the Deputy Chief of the Research Department of Caijing Magazine, a leading periodical in China
famous for its courage to reveal scandals and support modernization in the country. Previously, he worked at the
official Xinhua News Agency. He is mainly in charge of drafting the editorials of the magazine, some of which
received the Award of The National Best Editorial, such as "the public anticipation of the 17th national congress of
CPC," which demand for speeding up democratization.

AYNABAT YAYLYMOVA
Aynabat Yaylymova is Project Manager at the Bank Information Center based in Washington, DC. The project aims
to strengthen the capacity of civil society groups in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan in understanding and influencing
International Financial Institutions' involvement in the hydropower sector. Aynabat is a co-founder of the Central
Asia Educational Fund (CAEF) where she initiated and managed educational and public health projects in the
Central Asia region. In 2006-2008, she worked as the Central Eurasian Leadership Academy (CELA) Project
Manager. CELA works to enhance leadership skills in Central Asia and the Caucasus and to form an international
network of leaders working toward improved regional cooperation. In Turkmenistan, Aynabat cofounded and led the Alliance for Responsible Community Action (ARCA), an organization dedicated to promoting civic education in
Turkmenistan. She is an alumna of the first Central Eurasia Leadership Academy.
RUTH YEOH
Ruth Yeoh is Director at Yeoh Tiong Lay & Sons Holdings Sdn Bhd and Director of Investments at YTL
Corporation Bhd. She is also a Director at YTL-SV Carbon, YTL's in-house carbon credit and Clean Development
Mechanism (CDM) consultancy. Ruth currently leads the environmental division at YTL, where she reports on her
organization’s environmental activities through writing its award-winning Sustainability Reports, published yearly.
Ruth also pioneered the highly successful "Climate Change Week," YTL's flagship educational campaign designed
to raise awareness on the important issue of climate change in her nation of Malaysia and globally. She is a member
of the Institute of Corporate Responsibility Malaysia (ICRM) and is an investment committee member of both the
Asian Renewable Energy and Environment Fund (AREEF) and
Renewable Energy and Environment Fund (REEF), investing in clean technology and renewable energy. Ruth was appointed youngest
Board Member of Rare Conservation in 2008, with responsibilities in the Governance Committee of this US-based conservation
organization. She is also a Board Member at Reef Check Malaysia, dedicated to protecting reefs and coral life in Malaysia and the Southeast
Asian region. She was previously attached with Credit Suisse, Singapore, where she was responsible for research into equities, renewable
energy markets, commodities, clean technology, investments and the author of several flagship publications. In addition, she has written
for both the Wall Street Journal Asia and Financial Times, and has authored and co-edited a book on climate change entitled
Cut Carbon, Grow Profits: Business Strategies for Managing Climate Change and Sustainability. Ruth graduated with a degree (Hons)
from the University of Nottingham UK and an MS (Distinction) from Cass Business School in the City of London.
TRICIA YEOH
Tricia Yeoh is the Policy Research Officer for the Selangor Chief Minister, Malaysia. Previously, she was Director
of the Centre for Public Policy Studies at the Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute (ASLI) based in Kuala Lumpur.
She is currently affiliated with the Selangor State Government as Policy Research Officer for the Selangor Chief
Minister. She was previously Regional Coordinator for Asia Pacific at the Revenue Watch Institute. She has given
international public presentations and her comments as a Malaysian policy and political analyst have appeared in
the Economist, the International Herald Tribune and the New York Times. She is an alumna of the prestigious US
State International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). She is qualified in econometrics and has a Master of Science
in Research Methodology in Psychology.
JINGJING ZHANG
Jingjin Zhang is the Deputy Director of the Public Interest Law Institute of the National Resources Defense Council.
As one of China’s leading public interest lawyers, she is committed to justice and strengthening the rule of law. An
outspoken environmental advocate, she represents pollution victims in lawsuits and promotes public participation
by helping communities organize public hearings on environmental rights and licensing processes. She has won
milestone cases in the Chinese courts, including the first successful environmental class action suit in China, against
a chemical company that discharged toxic substances in Fujian Province. In a landmark suit against the Beijing
Municipal Commission of Urban Planning and the Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau, after the first-ever
public hearing related to environment issue, Zhang represented the community to sue the two governmental
agencies, eventually becoming a landmark environmental case. She has been frequently featured in
the media for her pioneering work in public interest law. She was the Yale world fellow and visiting scholar at Yale Law School China
Law Center and Woodrow Wilson Center for International Scholars from 2008-2009 and is the deputy director of Public Interest Law
Institute China Program.

Mike Tao Zhang is the Executive Vice President of the US-China Green Energy Council (UCGEC,
http://ucgef.org/). The UCGEC is a leading non-profit organization with its headquarters in Silicon Valley and
satellite operations in Beijing, Shanghai, Suzhou, Hong Kong, Washington, DC, and Los Angeles. Mike
dedicates himself to facilitating clean tech collaborations between the world's two largest carbon emitters – the
US and China – in the overall goal of achieving sustainability. Prior to that, Mike worked for Spansion and Intel
in various managerial/executive capacities and has assumed leadership roles in the organization of many
international conferences. He is currently the Co-Chair of an IEEE Technical Committee, and the recipient of
some prestigious awards, including the Li Foundation Heritage Prize for Outstanding Achievement, the IIE
Outstanding Young Industrial Engineer Business/Industry Award, and the IEEE Robotics and Automation
Early Career Industry/Government Award. Mike received his MS and the PhD degrees, as well as the Management of Technology
certificate from the Haas School of Business and the College of Engineering, all at the University of California, Berkeley, in recordbreaking three years. In his spare time, Mike enjoys volunteering at local charities and community services.
MIN ZIN
Min Zin is a freelance journalist and instructor at the School of Journalism of the University of California,
Berkeley. He got involved in student activism early in his life when in 1988, as a 14-year-old high school student,
a pro-democracy movement swept through Burma. He founded a nationwide high school student union and
worked closely with pro-democracy leader, Aung San Suu Kyi. He went into hiding in 1989 to avoid arrest by
the military, and his underground activist-cum- writer life lasted for nine years until he fled across the ThaiBurma border in August 1997. Almost all of his family members in Burma have suffered from repressions,
including imprisonment and harassment at the hands of the military junta. His brother Thet Zin, a journalist and former political prisoner,
is now serving a seven-year prison term in Burma for exercising freedom of expression. Min Zin worked for the Thailand-based Irrawaddy
magazine, as an assistant editor. Shifting from print to radio journalism, from 2004 to 2007, Min worked for the Washington-based Radio
Free Asia (Burmese Service). He is currently pursuing his MA degree in the Asian Studies Graduate Program at the University of
California, Berkeley. He is also an instructor responsible for International Visiting Scholars' Program at the University of California at
Berkeley's School of Journalism. He is a freelance journalist writing for the Wall Street Journal, Far Eastern Economic Review, The
Bangkok Post, The Irrawaddy and other publications.
SOOFIAN ZUBERI
Soofian Zuberi is a Managing Director and the Head of Global Markets Sales for Asia at Bank of America Merrill
Lynch. Soofian joined Merrill Lynch in 1993 as a member of the New York Corporate Finance team. From there,
he transferred to Hong Kong where he has held a number of increasingly senior roles including Head of Asia
Equity Syndicate and Head of South East Asia Equity Capital Markets before being promoted to his current
