Cut Protection
ANSI Cut Protection Test Rating Systems
N9676DT Memphis Ninja®
The Cut Protection Performance Test (ANSI) utilizes a
straight razor blade and calculates a gram weight necessary
to cut through test material. Gram level performances are
conducted on a TDM (Tomodynamometer) for ASTM
F1790-05 and a CPP (Cut Protection Performance) is used
for ASTM F1790-97 scores. Different equipment is used
for CE testing, which adds to the difficulty of making any
comparisons between these test scores. This is another
reason it is difficult to make any comparisons between test
scores. ANSI testing protocol will produce gram
performance variances up to 6%. MCR Safety utilizes a TDM
tester in our Innovations Technology Center (ITC). Our ITC
provides testing data for gloves, glasses, and garments for
internal evaluations. Endorsement of ANSI/ISEA gram levels
do not require independent testing.

The European Standard EN388 includes four physical tests
required for gloves. Our literature and industry identifies
this testing information with CE and a four digit number.
Each number represents an individual test for abrasion,
cut, tear, and puncture. The cut test uses a circular blade
under a fixed load, moves back and forth until cut through
is achieved. This is conducted on Couptest equipment and
is unique to CE testing methods. EN388 or CE test results do
require third party certification.
