COOPER YMCA YOUTH PROGRAMS 2016-2017 SCHOOL YEAR CLASS DESCRIPTIONS DANCE Creative Movement Children learn basic dance fundamentals and build on those skills. Ballet & Jazz, Cheer, Hip Hop Children learn basic dance fundamentals, choreography of dance, and build on those skills. Mighty Movers Basic tumbling and gymnastics class for children with special needs who need assistance from a parent. Level 3–Advanced Can do a back limber, round-off, handstand, and has capabilities on the apparatus. Live Y’ers Participants practice basic tumbling skills, learn social skills, and develop coordination. YOUTH GYM CLASSES CLIMBING CLUB A 20-foot climbing wall for ages 5 through adult offers five ropes and staff to assist. Wear comfortable attire and closed-toe shoes (no skirts or skorts). OPEN CLIMB HOURS Monday 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm Tuesday 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm Wednesday 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm Thursday 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm Saturday 9:00 am - 12:00 pm CLASSES Climbers learn techniques, knots, footwork, equipment safety, commands and more. More advanced climbers also learn belay techniques. Individual Class: Participants must be at least 5 years old. Family Class: Must have at least 1 adult and 1 child (age 5-16) with a maximum of 4 in a class. Parents and children learn basic climbing and belaying. Class Times Monday or Thursday 4:30pm - 5:30 pm OR 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm Pre-registration is required for class. Register at the Cooper Y Front Desk. FEES Individual Class Y Member $10 Y Non-Member $20 Family Class All are Y Members $25 1 or more Y Non-Members $50 This FREE program is designed to allow climbers of all levels to become more comfortable on the wall and to challenge themselves. There are different levels to match everyone’s abilities. The beginner level allows new climbers to learn safety techniques, cue words, equipment, basic climbing, and bouldering. The intermediate level is designed to continue climbing skills, learn knot tying, experience belaying, and challenge themselves with games. Pike A beginner class to build confidence in the water, teach floats and jumping in alone. Starfish Beginner class to build confidence in the water, teach floats and jumping in alone, putting front crawl and back crawl together. If swimmer is six and has never taken lessons or was in Pike or Eel, this is the level for them. (Parent or Guardian must participate in the water.) Schedule Monday & Thursday, 7:00pm –8:00pm Location Stingray Swim Club is held at the Southwest High School Pool. Enter through the doors southwest of the main entrance. CROCODILES SWIM TEAM Member $130 For ages 6-18 years. This summer team focuses on stroke development, endurance, and self-confidence. Team competes in the Lincoln Park and Recreation Swim League. Schedule This program is held during the summer only. LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATIONS The YMCA of Lincoln offers full certifications and recertification for current lifeguards. Focus on endurance, rotary breathing, and proper form in breaststroke, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke. Fish Must be able to swim one pool length continuously of proper front and back crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke. Will work on building endurance and perfecting the breaststroke, elementary backstroke, and sidestroke. Introduction to butterfly. *Dives and starts will not be taught at the Cooper Y due to lack of water depth. After that a 50% credit will be issued prior to the start date of the activity. After the start of the class, no refunds will be given. If the YMCA cancels a class or program there will be a full refund. It is the policy of the Lincoln YMCA to not allow make-up classes by taking part in other classes due to participants being absent due to reasons not associated with the YMCA (vacation, illness, other activities, etc.) Class cancellations made by YMCA will be rescheduled.
