Ready to add a little Wow Factor to your next special event? Whether it’s a birthday for
someone special, a bridal shower or baby shower, a tea for your closest friends or for no
reason at all, this little duo will show them just how special you think they are.
REQUIRED MATERIALS:
Quilting Cotton
Mod Podge and applicator
Wooden Tray & Wooden Ornament
Glitter
Ribbon
Chipboard letter

Serving Tray
Supplies:
1 Prepared Wooden Serving Tray
1 piece of quilting cotton to fit inside tray bottom
Scissors
Hard Coat Mod Podge and applicator
NOTE: If your tray is unfinished wood, sand and
paint it first. Allow the paint to dry completely
before Mod Podging.
Measure the inside bottom of the tray. Cut fabric to
size.
Remove dust, lint, etc. from tray and apply one
generous layer of Mod Podge. For this step you may
use regular formulas of Mod Podge (matte, gloss,
satin) if you choose.
Carefully place fabric, right side up, in bottom of
tray. Smooth fabric in place and remove all air
bubbles by gently working them to the outer edges.
Let dry completely.
Cover fabric in at least two coats of Hard Coat Mod
Podge, letting it dry completely in between coats.
Allow to cure 72 hours. For even more durability,
spray with acrylic sealer.

Decorative Ornament
Supplies:
1 Prepared Wooden Ornament
2 pieces of quilting cotton to fit ornament
Scissors
Fabric Mod Podge, Matte Mod Podge and applicator
Glitter
Chipboard Letter
NOTE: If your ornament is unfinished wood, sand
and paint it first. Allow the paint to dry completely
before Mod Podging.
Cut fabric into pieces that are at least 1/2” bigger all
the way around. Apply Fabric Mod Podge to right
side of fabric and allow to dry.
Trace ornament onto fabric and cut out shape.
Apply regular Mod Podge to wood and place fabric
onto ornament. Carefully smooth out any air
bubbles by working them to the edges. When dry,
repeat for other side.
Apply at least one coat of Mod Podge to each side,
letting dry completely each time.
Use a small brush to apply Mod Podge to outer edge
of ornament. While still wet, sprinkle glitter over
the glue to create a sparkly edge. (If you prefer, use
craft glue in a bottle for this step. You may find that
the applicator tip makes things easier for you.)
When dry, apply the chipboard letter using more
Mod Podge or craft glue. Thread ribbon through
the ornament, tie and it’s ready!

A Few Tips and Some Notes
If you are unable to find a wooden ornament, don’t
despair. Mod Podge adheres to just about anything.
Really.
And it doesn’t have to be round. A narrow rectangle
would look great too.
Doesn’t have a hole in it? No problem. Drilling
through balsa wood is easy. No drill? Still not a
problem. Use a staple on each side to secure the
ribbon and cover each side with a button or other
embellishment. Or even easier, use a strong
adhesive to apply the ribbon to each side.
The tray doesn’t have to be wooden either. Mod
Podge lets you get creative with whatever you can
get your hands on.

Air bubbles are a common complaint of newbie Mod
Podgers. Go slowly and if you’re using a sponge
applicator, avoid the application of too much
pressure. You will be pushing Mod Podge and air
through the sponge which will leave you with some
bubbles. However, if you have bubbles that have
dried, simply use fine sand paper to lightly sand the
surface.
While I have created and staged this with special
occasions in mind, the tray would be a great gift
for anyone on any occasion. It would work as an
organizer for change, keys and mobile devices.
Use a few to sort your incoming and outgoing mail.
Keep track of the remotes and have room left over
for snacks. You see, good for all sorts of things.
And the best part, easy and fun to make!
