John Farranto Dewitt, NY
John Farranto Dewitt, NY John, 35, received a B.A. in English from Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, and an M.A. in English education from Teachers College, Columbia University. John has taught at Nativity Preparatory School and the Academy of the Pacific Rim Charter School, both in Boston, and most recently at the Bronx Academy of Letters, Bronx, New York. His interest in the Jesuits was sparked by the Ignatian pedagogy he experienced while teaching at Nativity Prep, an interest that grew as he became more familiar with Ignatian spirituality and prayer. John also enjoys film, art, music, reading and trivia. Stephen Hobbs Falls Church, VA Steve, 26, holds a B.S. in applied mathematics from the College of William and Mary. Since graduation in 2009, he has worked as a math teacher, basketball and lacrosse coach and dorm master at St. James School in Hagerstown, Maryland. Steve was initially drawn to the Society by the Jesuit vision of "finding God in all things." This attraction deepened as he got to know more Jesuits who not only had a wide range of personalities, interests and passions, but also were down-to-earth and deeply spiritual. In addition to his interest in math and science, Steve enjoys basketball, traveling, camping and playing the guitar. Michael Lonie Holmdel, NJ Mike, 24, is a 2011 graduate of Georgetown University with a B.A. in history and a minor in Arabic. He also recently received an M.A. in teaching, secondary education, from The College of New Jersey in Ewing. He has worked as a legal assistant at a law firm in New York and, while in graduate school, as a graduate assistant at the Brower Student Center. For the past year, Mike has found particular satisfaction in his work as a tutor and kitchen aide at the Trenton Soup Kitchen. Mike was introduced to the Jesuits during his time at Georgetown and was particularly attracted to the Jesuit ideal of community and spirituality. An avid runner, Mike has competed in several marathons and a triathlon. Joseph Moreshead South Portland, ME Joe, 22, is a graduate of Cheverus High School in Portland, Maine, and a 2013 graduate of Fordham University, with a B.A. in philosophy and classical languages. A classically trained pianist and organist, Joe is also a competitive swimmer, who coached the swim team at Roosevelt High School in the Bronx during his time at Fordham. Although his introduction to the Jesuits came during high school, his sense of vocation was a gradual process that developed throughout his four years at Fordham. Regular spiritual direction led to a two-week service trip to Calcutta his junior year during which a series of grace-filled events seemed to confirm his call to the Jesuits through Mother Teresa and the Missionaries of Charity. David Pinter Downington, PA David, 26, is originally from Pennsylvania, but grew up in Florida. He earned a B.A. in English and philosophy from Columbia Union College in Takoma Park, Maryland. Raised in the Seventh-Day Adventist faith, David's journey to Catholicism and the Jesuits began in college with his attraction to the sacramental life of the Church. After college, he moved to Mead, Pennsylvania, where he soon met the Jesuits at Old St. Joseph's Church in Philadelphia. His vocation has been inspired by the commitment and spiritual life of each of the Jesuits he has met. While working as a grandfather clock repairman, he has volunteered as a CCD teacher, writing and math tutor, and as a physical therapy volunteer at Assisi House.
