Back in the days, when I was in high school, we did not have the benefit of attending an event like this. Decisions that students make today will have a very big impact in the years to come. The format of our Career Fair is excellent because it provides students with an opportunity to do over the course of a few hours what could normally take weeks or months. By bringing representatives from CEGEPS, vocational programs, colleges and even Air Canada, students really do leave the premises with the confidence that they will be able to make informed decisions. I also wish to take this opportunity to commend our corporate sponsors for the event - Pipe and Piling Supplies, Ltd. and RBC Royal Bank. The EMSB is proud of the accomplishments of its students and we are committed to doing everything within our power to send you off into that great big world of ours with all of the tools necessary to thrive. Message from the Director General Anne Marie Matheson As the Director General of the English Montreal School Board, I would like to say how happy I am to be here at our sixteenth annual Career Fair. Our sincere thanks go out to the Guidance Counsellors of the Department of Student Services, the Adult Education and Vocational Services Department and our host facility - St. Pius X Career Centre. We are all very proud of this magnificent facility. More than 3,000 students will be attending this year’s Career Fair. The main objective is to provide Secondary V, and senior adult education students, with an in-depth exposure to the various educational opportunities available to them in the greater Montreal area. Also, on October 28 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., there will be an Open House for students from all grade levels and their parents, so that they will get an first glance at that the Career Fair will offer them when they visit it in Grade 11. As well, it will be open to all students from our Adult Education and Vocational Training Centres. I am sure, as students visit the various exhibitions and booths, they will obtain valuable insight into where they might go upon graduation. At the EMSB, we are responsible for a child’s education beginning in Pre-Kindergarten and continuing until Grade 11. Adult education provides the opportunity for others to get their High School Leaving Certificate. By sponsoring an event such as this we are reaffirming our commitment to make sure our students go on and prosper in their post-secondary education. It is important to acknowledge that a successful educational experience can best be provided to all students when all partners of the school community involve themselves in developing a safe, caring and inclusive learning community. As the proverb goes, “it takes a village to raise a child.” The fact that our guidance counsellors have travelled the extra mile to produce an event of this nature is testament to their dedication to the job and the commitment to our student population. Thank you and good luck. Career Fair 2015 has more than 25 booths & knowledgeable experts to answer your questions.
