VERMILION COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Seasonal Law Enforcement program at VCC to continue
WASHINGTON, D.C.– After
a push from U.S. Senators Amy
Klobuchar and Al Franken and U.S.
Representatives Rick Nolan and
Betty McCollum, the U.S.
Department of Interior (DOI)
announced that it will protect
Vermilion Community College’s
(VCC) Seasonal Law Enforcement
Training Program. Earlier this
year, as the Department of Interior
considered possible reductions to
the number of accredited academic institutions offering the
Seasonal Law Enforcement
Training Program, the lawmakers
called on Secretary Jewell to pre-
serve VCC’s program.
“This is great news for VCC
and the Minnesotans who will
continue to benefit from the
Seasonal Law Enforcement
Training Program,” Klobuchar
said. “VCC’s program has a strong
track record of connecting
Minnesota students with good job
opportunities in a range of fields,
and now that important work will
be able to continue.”
“Vermilion Community
College has a long history of
success in getting Minnesotans the
skills they need to work in land
management jobs,” Franken said.
“And we need to make sure that
this specialized training is available to future students. I’m very
pleased that we were able to help
protect VCC’s Seasonal Law
Enforcement Training Program
and continue to bring employment
opportunities
to
Minnesotans.”
“This is great news for our
region, and for all Minnesotans
who are looking to receive the
extraordinary education and career
opportunities Vermilion has provided for 25 years,” said Nolan.
“With VCC’s extremely high jobplacement rate, as well as strate-
gic location at the edge of the
Boundary Waters, it has long
proven its ability to match graduates with successful law enforcement jobs with the Park Service,
Forest Service, U.S. Fish and
Wildlife, and many more state
departments and agencies. I’m
very proud to have played a role
in securing Vermilion’s continued
success.”
“Vermilion Community
College is very pleased with the
outcome of the National Park
Service’s evaluation of Seasonal
Park Ranger Training Programs at
their partner colleges, and we are
thrilled to remain as one of the
seven colleges in the country where
this important training will be
offered,” said Shawn Bina, Provost
of Vermilion Community College.
“On behalf of Vermilion I would
like to thank Senator Franken,
Senator Klobuchar, Congressman
Nolan, and Congresswoman
McCollum for their support
throughout this process. Their
assistance and attention to this issue
played an integral part in highlighting the importance of this
unique program to our college
and the people of Minnesota.”
