Cashin
Prudence Cashin, 83, of White Bear
Lake, died Jan. 1.
She is preceded in death by her
parents.
She is survived by her husband
Warren of 57 years; daughters,
Bridgette (Mark) Mueller, Patty (Dave)
Malinowski, Kathy (Mark) Larson,
Molly Cashin, Mary Kelly (Steve)
Weigel; and 10 loving grandchildren.
Cashin
Prudence was an active member of
St. Pius X Church for 54 years. She was
a humble faith-filled servant of God.
Prudence was born in Bessemer, Mich. She graduated from National College, Evanston, Ill., as a teacher.
Service was held Jan. 7 at St. Pius X Church, White
Bear Lake. Private interment Ft. Snelling National
Cemetery.
Honda
Lily Yuriko Honda, 86, of White Bear
Lake, died Dec. 11 after a long fight
with kidney disease. Preceded in death
by parents, husband Sam, daughter
Nancy, and siblings Toshio, Teru, and
Mary Mariko Kaname.
Survived by daughter Patti (Gary)
Nakai, son Mark (Andrea), six grandchildren, Ben, Nick, Alix, Maddy, Theo,
and Danielle, brother Roy Kaname, Honda
and sisters May Miye Sato, Margaret
Ishi Ogawa, Florence Sachi Kurihara,
and Judy Kaname.
During her full lifetime, Lily was a wonderful sister helping to raise her siblings, a dedicated mother
raising three kids, and a loving grandmother caring
for six grandkids. She enjoyed bowling in White Bear
leagues for over 40 years and made many in the community happy with her creative puppet making, Japanese
crafts, and table decorations for countless events. She
volunteered to support schools, seniors, and Japanese
American community programs.
Service was Jan. 3 at Bradshaw Funeral Home in
White Bear Lake. Memorials will be given to the Twin
Cities JACL's Scholarship Fund by the family. Lily is
now hitting casino jackpots with every pull of her favorite slot machine.
Johnson
Kenneth Johnson, 82, of Tremont, Ill., formerly of
White Bear Lake, died Jan. 1.
Ken was a 1949 graduate of White Bear Lake High
School.
He is preceded in death by wife Louise; infant daughter, Sandra; brothers, Greg, Bob, Alan and Don.
He is survived by sons, Bruce (Janet) of Morton,
Ill., Brian (Heather) of Elora, Tenn.; daughters, Karen
(John) Higgins of Chesapeake, Va., and Lori (Shane)
Ravellette of Dalton City, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; sister
Judy (Dick) Hall and brother Dick (Betty) Johnson of
White Bear Lake; sisters-in-law Kate Johnson of Circle
Pines and Mary Johnson of Maple Grove; and many
nieces and nephews.
Services were held Jan. 4 in Tremont, Ill.
Sue El-Eid and Sarah Brown, both of Oakdale; plus 21
grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, and many
other relatives and friends.
Russ and Dorothy both served in World War II, with
Russ serving in North Africa, Sicily and Italy with the
Army Air Force. He was a 3M retiree, an active ham radio operator and active at Trinity Baptist Church. He
was also a member of VFW Keep-Zimmer Post 1782.
Funeral service was Dec. 30 at Trinity Baptist
Church, Maplewood.
Interment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials
preferred to Trinity Baptist Church.
Olsen
Johnson
Robert "Bob" Edward Johnson Sr., 82, of Tyler, Texas,
formerly of White Bear Lake, died Dec. 24 after a short
illness.
Bob was born May 20, 1931 in St.Paul to Edward A.
Johnson and Helga Miller Johnson.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was discharged in November 1953. Bob loved to work with
wood and made many items that he mostly gave away.
He worked at Ryan Equipment (formally K & N machine shop) for over 20 years in St.Paul and when they
closed, he decided to be an over-the-road truck driver,
which he did for over 20 years. In 1983, Bob and his wife
moved to Texas from White Bear Lake. He retired in
2007.
Bob was preceded in death by his two sons, Thomas
Scott and Robert Jr., brother Kenneth, grandson Shane
McSherry and parents, Eddie and Helga Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Ruth
Cunningham Johnson, two daughters, Janine Benoit
(Brad) St. Paul, and Jolene Mohr (Clint) Gladewater,
Texas, one brother Donald Johnson, Apple Valley,
eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, many
nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Memorial services were held Dec. 28 at his home in
Tyler.
Nelson
Russell B. Nelson, 91, 53-year resident of White Bear
Lake, died peacefully Dec. 24.
Russ was born in Minneapolis to Peter and Lena
Nelson. He was a proud husband, father, grandfather
and great-grandfather.
Preceded in death by sister Margaret Moore and
grandson Troy Brown.
Survived by wife of 68 years, Dorothy; sons Russell
(Marlys) of Waterloo, Iowa, and Michael (Beth) of
Aurora, Colo.; daughters Nancy (Dave) Kopesky of
Maplewood, Mary (John) Helland of Tallahassee, Fla.,
Gary James Olsen, 64, of White Bear
Lake, died unexpectedly Jan. 2 surrounded by family.
Preceded in death by parents, Harry
and Billie Olsen.
Loved by his wife of 28 years, Lael;
sister, Lisa; cousins, Scott and Todd
Beatty; and many other beloved family
and friends.
Gary retired from 3M in information technology. He enjoyed comput- Olsen
ers, photography, traveling, genealogy,
art, theater and his motorhome. Gary loved his family, friends and pets. His favorite saying was “Carpe
diem” – seize the day. Gary loved life. In keeping with
his wishes, there will be no service. Memorials preferred to the Salvation Army.
Shevik
Sean D. Shevik, 39, of White Bear
Lake, died Dec. 26.
Loving son, brother, uncle, friend
and paramedic.
Preceded in death by grandparents
Harland and Maxine Shevik.
Survived by loving family: parents Dennis and Monica Shevik of

Jack; Joan and Marv Erdman and many other beloved
aunts, uncles, cousins; his Lakeview "family"; friends
and the many other lives he touched.
Funeral service was Jan. 3 at Redeemer Lutheran
Church, White Bear Lake. Interment Union Cemetery
with a celebration of life to follow.

sick baby
A benefit for baby
Ethan Guanzini’s medical expenses is planned
from 2-6 p.m. Sunday,
Jan. 12 at the White Bear
Lake American Legion.
Admission is $10 and includes a spaghetti dinner
and raffles. There also is
a silent auction and bake
sale.
Ethan has a congenital heart defect requiring
three surgeries, and has
experienced renal failure
and other health complications. Ethan’s mother
is a White Bear native.
His aunt and uncle from
Mahtomedi are organizing the benefit. Donations
