As the excitement builds for the Green U Festival on Saturday, the celebration begins early with the second annual Green Tie event. Robin Conn / The Huntsville Times Allied Waste representative Bill Brinkley, Green Tie Awards co-chairs Lori Severin and Ruchi Singhal, Huntsville Botanical Garden Director of Advancement Tish Pegues and liasons Donna Parsons and Melissa Riley get ready for the 2nd Annual Green Tie Awards Aug. 24, 2010 in the HUntsville Botanical Garden Arbor. 0 The event, hosted by Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle and Madison Mayor Paul Finley, gets going at 5:30 p.m. with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. The mayors, along with Tony Jones of Boeing, Bill Brinkley of Allied Waste, Ron Poteat of Regions, Paula Steigerwald and Harvey Cotten of the Huntsville Botanical Garden, will officially kick off the festivities with a ribbon cutting at 6 p.m. 0 Attendees will enjoy fresh, local foods from Earth Fare, some tasty treats 2 from Old Towne Brewery and organic tweets wine from The Little Green Store. The highlight of the evening will be the Share retweet presentation of the Greenies. Local citizens, businesses and builders with exemplary sustainable practices will be honored and recognized. 0 The event is also a great way to meet leaders in the movement toward sustainability and provides a forum where attendees can chat about best practices and gather ideas to incorporate into their own lifestyle and businesses.
