Kosair Children’s Hospital is Kentucky’s only full-service, free-standing pediatric care facility dedicated
exclusively to caring for children and being an advocate for the health, safety and well-being of all children.
For the fourth year in a row, Kosair Children’s Hospital was one of 62 medical facilities from across the nation

offers care created “Just for Kids.”

Pediatric nursing services
Kosair Children’s Hospital nurses are unique, talented, professional men and women who are committed to caring for
sick and injured children and their families. All nurses have a focused orientation in pediatrics, and their constant goal is
to provide high-quality, safe care; improve patient outcomes; and ensure an excellent patient and family experience. The
family-centered approach at Kosair Children’s Hospital is designed to include families in making the best possible health
care decisions for children in their care.
In 2007, appraisers from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) awarded Magnet
designation to Kosair Children’s Hospital. Magnet designation recognizes hospitals throughout the
world for excellence in professional nursing practice, provides an evidence-based framework for
improving the work environment and validates a hospital’s investment in nursing service. Magnet
recognition is a stamp of excellence in nursing. It recognizes the dedication of Kosair Children’s
Hospital staff to continually improving the quality of care for the children of our community.
Children’s Hospital Foundation
As a not-for-profit pediatric hospital, Kosair Children’s Hospital relies on the generosity of the community for
continued growth and to provide the most up-to-date medical advances to help children. The Children’s Hospital
Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the hospital and raises funds annually to support programs, equipment and
facilities, research, advocacy and education. You and your patients can support the work of the hospital by visiting
HelpKosairChildrensHospital.com or by calling (502) 629-8060.
Kosair Children’s Hospital ranked among
top children’s hospitals nationwide
Kosair Children’s Hospital is ranked among the top children’s hospitals nationwide in seven of 10 specialties by U.S. News
Media Group’s Best Children’s Hospitals 2012-13. The cancer care program at Kosair Children’s Hospital was highlighted
as No. 21 in the nation — a full 29 places higher than last year’s ranking. Kosair Children’s Hospital also was rated among
the top 50 children’s hospitals in the nation, out of 178 hospitals eligible to participate in
the survey, in six other specialties: orthopaedics, pulmonology, neurology and neurosurgery,
cardiology and heart surgery, urology and nephrology.
Since 2007, Best Children’s Hospitals has pulled together clinical and operational data from
a lengthy survey, completed by the majority of more than 175 hospitals asked to participate.
The survey asks hundreds of questions about survival rates, nursing staffing, subspecialist
availability and many more pieces of critical information difficult or impossible for those
in change of a child’s care to find on their own. The data from the survey is combined with
recommendations from pediatric specialists on the hospitals they consider best for children
with challenging health conditions.

Level I Pediatric Trauma Center
Kosair Children’s Hospital is the only free-standing Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in Kentucky. It received this
certification by the Verification Review Committee (VRC), an ad hoc committee of the American College of Surgeons’
Committee on Trauma.
This verification is a national designation that requires high-quality clinical care, continued innovation and research in the
field of trauma. The VRC confirmed through a rigorous audit of facilities and processes that Kosair Children’s Hospital has
demonstrated its commitment to providing the highest quality trauma care for injured patients.
Kosair Children’s Hospital joins University of Louisville Hospital and University of Kentucky Hospital as the only three
designated Level I Trauma Centers in the state. However, Kosair Children’s Hospital is the only free-standing Level I
Pediatric Trauma Center in the state and is among an elite group of children’s hospitals with this status in the country.

provide pain control as well as ease the child’s transition to
care at home after a hospital stay.

Kosair Children’s Hospital
Outpatient Centers
The walls of Kosair Children’s Hospital stretch far and
wide when it comes to providing that special brand of
care that’s “Just for Kids.” Pediatricians and specialists
associated with the University of Louisville and Norton
Healthcare as well as other community providers care
for thousands of children throughout our region at
outpatient centers affiliated with Kosair Children’s
Hospital. The Kosair Children’s Hospital Outpatient
Centers allow us to treat children in their own
community so that families can stay close to home
while also receiving specialized pediatric care.
Kosair Children’s Hospital currently has outpatient
centers in Bowling Green, Frankfort, Owensboro
and Paducah, Ky. For additional information
about our outpatient centers, including physicians’
schedules for each city, visit KosairChildrens.com/

In 2012, Kosair Children’s Hospital upgraded its diagnostic
imaging technology to a dual-source Siemens SOMATOM
Definition 256 Flash CT scanner. These upgrades were part of a
series of large-scale improvements to reduce radiation exposure
in children. Kosair Children’s Hospital is the only pediatric
facility in Kentucky with this level of technology, and only the
third in the United States.
