Support Team Tanzania
The Street Child World Cup (SCWC) is a global campaign for the rights of street children. Through football,
art and a unique international street child conference our aim is to provide a platform for street children to
be heard, to challenge negative stereotypes of street children and to promote the rights of street children.
“I know from personal experience just
what power football can have to
inspire and change young people’s
lives whatever their background or
nationality. This is what the Street
Child World Cup is all about and I give
it my full support. I look forward to
Brazil in 201 4 when street children
from around the world will play
football and represent the millions of
children who still live or work on our
streets.”
In 201 0, eight teams of former street children travelled to
South Africa and represented their countries at the first Street
Child World Cup held in Durban, South Africa. This first SCWC
received global media coverage including the BBC, The Sun,
FIFA’s Football Mondial & produced a film - Street Kids United.
Tanzania competed and finished runner up at this event.
SCWC 2014 - The Road to Rio
In 201 4 street children from 1 6 countries from 4 continents will
come together in Brazil for the second Street Child World Cup.
By taking part in the tournament they will be adding their
voices to an international campaign to provide hope for the
millions of children who still live or work on the streets.
Tanzania's Preparation
Organised by TSC Sports Academy Mwanza, supported by
local company MOIL and Pepsi, we selected Team Tanzania
by holding a 2 day national tournament for street children.
Attended by Tottenham star Benoit Assou Ekotto, this was the
centre piece of a high profile programme produced by UK
broadcaster BT Sport to be shown this autumn. A follow up
show of the team going to the SCWC is planned for next year.
In addition, with support from the British Council and the
Rotary Club we are holding other promotional events:
“We decided to become involved with • 3 Workshops on Using Football & Creativity
the Street Child World Cup not only
• 4 Street Children Centre Open Days
because it is a great cause but because • 1 SCWC promotional tournament
it is a great strategic fit for our
• Awareness Raising Events
company. It’s a great opportunity to
come together as colleagues to make a
big difference and our support will
deliver real tangible benefits to street
children around the world and make
the SCWC a great success.”

Premier League side QPR & SCWC visited TSC in April to pilot
& train local coaches in Mwanza to give a lasting legacy for
street children's football in Tanzania. As part of our Street Kickz
project, street involved children will play football & participate
in art workshops. For a 3 rd year, TSC was visited for 3 months
by coaches from Arsenal in the Community to develop our
work in the academy and local primary schools.
