Inform. Entertain. We are a nonprofit, professional membership organization with a mission to support Oklahoma museums in their efforts to educate, inform and entertain. We play an active leadership role by offering a variety of services and programs including training seminars, networking opportunities and projects that increase public awareness of Oklahoma’s 500+ museums, historical societies, historic sites, zoos and botanical gardens, historic houses, living history museums, tribal cultural centers and other museum-related institutions. Fiscal Year 2013 was a very exciting time at OMA! We updated our marketing brand by introducing a new colorful logo with our retro colors from 1966, restructured our membership program, added Professional Interest online discussion groups and improved our website okmuseums.org by making it more organized and streamlined. This year found the Board of Directors adopting the OMA Abandoned Property Task Force’s recommended Guidelines Relating to Unclaimed, Undocumented, and Abandoned Property. These guidelines are intended for Oklahoma museums to use as a framework for handling unclaimed, undocumented, and abandoned property. We offered many collections related initiatives in alliance with the Oklahoma Cultural Heritage Trust as part of the Institute of Museum and Library Services Connecting to Collections Implementation Grant. The Trust was headed by the Oklahoma Department of Libraries in partnership with the Oklahoma Historical Records Advisory Board, the Oklahoma Historical Society and OMA. Two more highlights include OMA receiving a RedBud Merit Award for Best Social Media Campaign with our 40th anniversary promotions in 2012 and our Oklahoma museum efforts to assist with tornado relief following the severe storms in 2013. We continue to be a transparent organization and were pleased to begin participating in GiveSmartOKC during this time. GiveSmartOKC is a Guidestar product, and program of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. It is a s powerful online resource to inform, empower and enrich charitable giving benefiting donors, nonprofits and central Oklahoma. We appreciate and thank our members, donors and friends!
