FOREST RIDGE SCHOOL OF THE SACRED HEART Middle School Uniform Policy 2014 - 2015 Uniforms are an integral part of who we are as a Sacred Heart Community. Students are expected to be in uniform during the school day (8:25 – 3:10). Uniforms are to be kept in good wearing condition – no rips, tears or hanging hems. There are differences between the uniform policies of the Middle and High schools. This uniform policy may be adapted as needed throughout the year; any change to policy will be communicated via Middle School Homeroom, advisory and grade level portal. Dress Uniform Worn every Monday and on designated special events. At assemblies and special events the white polo shirt may not extend beyond the bottom of the green sweater. Plain white “polo” style shirt Shirt Long or short sleeves Must have a collar No colored emblems, piping or decorations Shirts must fully extend below the top of the skirt – no exposed midriffs Plain white, crewneck short sleeve t-shirts or white camisole may be worn under the under the polo No other color t-shirt or camisole may be worn under the polo. Shirt-tail of the t-shirt or camisole may not fall below hemline of the polo Forest green cardigan or pullover Sweater Purchased only from the Dennis Uniform Store or Land’s End Black watch plaid skirt Skirt Purchased only from the Dennis Uniform Store No shorter than 3 inches above the top of the kneecap Forest Ridge green or black tights or Forest Ridge green knee highs. Black leggings or Socks footless tights may be worn if tucked into boots (may not be worn with shoes). Leggings or footless tights must be free of decoration or pattern and may not be shiny. Athletic or yoga pants are not allowed. Solid black or dark brown dress shoes or dress boots. There are some dress Shoes uniform events when boots will not be allowed (example – Prize Day). Boots must be worn with solid forest green or black tights No open toe shoes – sandals No open back shoes – clogs No athletic shoes– tennis shoes, hiking boots, cowboy boots, rain boots No sparkles, pattern or other color on shoes or boots Soles of shoes black or brown Uniform Options Shirt Worn Tuesdays – Fridays unless otherwise designated Plain white or forest green “polo” style shirt Long or short sleeve Turtlenecks okay Must have a collar Shirts must fully extend below top of skirt or pants - no exposed midriffs No colored piping or decorations No heavy weight rugby style shirts Plain white camisole or crewneck short or long sleeve t-shirts may be worn under the under the polo Shirt-tail of the t-shirt or camisole may not fall below hemline of the polo Sweater Forest Ridge green sweater or Purchased from the Dennis Uniform store or Land’s End Sweatshirt Forest green or grey “Forest Ridge” sponsored sweatshirts or Purchased from Land’s End Vest Must have school name or emblem on the sweat shirt Forest green fleece or down vest Purchased from Land’s End Must have school name and emblem on the vest Solid Khaki or corduroy slacks Pants Khaki is a light tan or light brown. Army green or brown pants will not work. No athletic or yoga pants allowed. Socks must be worn Socks need to be visible Miscellaneous Out of Uniform Students who are out of uniform will receive a “code of respect” violation. If you are out of uniform you are not allowed to make announcements during Outer wear homeroom or assemblies If a student needs to be out of uniform for a serious reason, she should bring a note from her parent/guardian stating the reason Pajama bottoms or leggings are not allowed You may not wear a uniform skirt with other option bottoms Jackets/coats may be worn over a Forest Ridge sweatshirt, sweater or vest when not in class Hats, sunglasses and scarves are not to be worn during class, assemblies or liturgies Belts must be functional not decorative High School Uniform Privileges Capri and cargo pants are a high school privilege No socks is a high school privilege Wearing class and sports sweatshirts as part of the high school uniform Navy blue sweaters and oxford shirts are senior privileges Gym Uniform Worn during PE classes only No gym uniform needed for 5th grade Required PE uniform T-shirt Sports shorts Athletic socks Non-marking athletic shoes – Keds are discouraged because they don’t provide enough support for athletic activity Sweat pants or tops may be worn over the required items. Pajama bottoms or leggings are not allowed st Free Dress 1 Friday of the Month On Student’s birthday with prior approval from Dean of Students Special “reward” free dress days – designated periodically throughout the school year General You are expected to dress appropriately and modestly Guidelines Clothing must be clean and free of rips and tears Clothing which displays advertisements for alcohol, cigarettes or that uses inappropriate language or symbols are not allowed. Pajamas or other sleepwear are not appropriate free dress attire Any questions see the Dean of Students Free Dress guidelines apply to any school sponsored event Shirts No tank tops Sleeveless tops need to extend to the edge of the shoulder Extend fully below the top of the skirt or pants – No exposed midriffs Must have a modest neckline No slogans Shorts, No shorter than 3 inches above the top of the kneecap skirts and dresses Birthday You are entitled to a free dress on your birthday. Free Summer birthdays are celebrated on student’s half birthday Dress Birthday free dress pass will be handed out the week of your birthday or halfbirthday You must use your free dress pass within a week of your birthday or halfbirthday Birthday free dress may only be worn on option days (Tuesday – Friday) Dressy All free dress guidelines apply, plus Free You may not wear jeans, shorts, sweatshirts, athletic shoes, foam or rubber Dress flip flops
