Djkvhnf hj TEXTURED FELTED MITTENS written and designed by Kt Baldassaro Size- One size fits most adults Materials2 skeins of Platino by Feza Yarns (44yds; 100g/ea) US # 11 DPNs OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE locking stitch marker tapestry needle stitch holder Gauge- 3.5 sts = 1” in Stockinette st Note from the Designer: Mittens are shown with the different textures. Pat A- Top Mitten: Reverse Stockinette St. Pat B- Bottom Mitten: Stockinette St. MITTENS (make two) Using US # 11 DPNS OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE, CO 22 sts and evenly distribute sts among DPNs; join to work in the round, and place marker to indicate beginning of round. CuffRnds 1 – 8: Knit across. Rnd 9: Purl across. Mitten BodyRnds 1 – 8: Knit across. Divide for thumbRnd 9: Put the first four sts on stitch holder for thumb, knit to the end of the round. Rnd 10: Provisionally cast-on four sts, knit to the end of the round. Continue to work in Stockinette st until the mitten just begins to cover the tip of the middle finger. Decrease for top of Mitten- Rnd 1- K1, (K2tog, K2) twice, K2tog, K1, (K2tog, K2) twice, K2tog. (16 sts) Rnd 2- Knit across. Rnd 3- (K2tog, K1) twice, K2tog, (K2tog, K1) twice, K2tog. (10 sts) Rnd 4- K2tog, K1, (K2tog) twice, K1, K2tog. (6 sts) Cut yarn leaving a long tail. Using tapestry needle thread draw thread through the remaining 6 sts and pull together tightly; sew loose end into wrong side of the mitten. *If making Pattern A- The Reverse Stockinette St. mittens, simply flip mitten inside out at the end of construction, and make sure to sew all threads to the Stockinette Side {making that side the WS}.* ThumbUsing US # 11 DPNS OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE, pick up 4 sts from above the 4 sts placed on the stitch holder, 4 sts from the stitch holder, and 1 sts from both corners between the two. (Total: 10 sts on needles) Evenly distribute the sts among the DPNs. Place marker just before the four sts originally placed on stitch holder to maker beginning of the round and join to work in the round. Rnd 1- K6, K2tog, K2. (9 sts) Work in Stockinette st until thumb just begins to cover the tip of the finger. Decrease for top of thumbRnd 1- (K1, K2tog) three times. (6 sts) Rnd 2- (K2tog) three times. (3 sts) Cut yarn leaving a long tail. Using tapestry needle thread draw thread through the remaining 3 sts and pull together tightly; sew loose end into wrong side of the mitten. *If making Pattern A- The Reverse Stockinette St. mittens, simply flip mitten inside out at the end of construction, and make sure to sew all threads to the Stockinette Side {making that side the WS}.* FINISHING*If making Pattern A- The Reverse Stockinette St. mittens, simply flip mitten inside out at the end of construction, and make sure to sew all threads to the Stockinette Side {making that side the WS}.* Weave in all lose ends. Felt according to your favourite method. Our suggested method is to use a top load washer set to “Small Load” & the “HOT – COLD” water setting. Place the mittens in a pillow case or throw in a pair of denim jeans, and a tsp of wool wash. Wash as many times as necessary, until mittens reach desired texture consistency. *Eventually they will no longer felt* These mittens were run through the cycle twice, just until stitch definition was no longer clearly present.
