Sizes: Vest: one size XS to L.
Hat: to fit about 19¾" to 21¾" [50 to 55 cm] head.
Arm warmers: circumference (unstretched) about
8¾" [22 cm], length 17¼" [44 cm].
Materials: Schachenmayr/SMC Viva Color, vest
550g, hat 50g, arm warmers 100g #00085 earth mix.
Vest: one US 10½ [7 mm] circular needle 32" [80
cm] long and one US J/10 [6 mm] crochet hook; hat:
five US 11 [8 mm] dpn, and for warmers five US 10½
[7 mm] dpn, or size to obtain gauge.
Welt pattern: alt K1, P1.
Rib pattern: alt K2, P2; on RS rows K selvage sts;
P on WS rows.
Seed stitch: alt K1, P1; stagger sts on every row.
Stockinette stitch: in rounds K all sts.
Gauge: with 7mm needles and Seed Stitch 11 sts
and 19 rows; with Rib Patt stretched lightly 13 sts and
18 rows; with 8 mm needles and st-st 11 sts and 16
rnds, each to 4" [10 cm].
METHOD
Vest: first work front and back in one piece crosswise, starting at one front edge. With the circular needle cast on 56 sts and work in Seed Stitch in rows.
At the same time PM at one side edge when work
measures 14½" [37 cm] and 24" [61 cm] for 1st armhole, and when work measures 39" [99 cm] and 48½"
[123 cm] for 2nd armhole.
When work measures about 63" [160 cm] bind off all
sts. For collar and bands pick up 48 sts across side
edge with markers to first marker, then cast on 34
sts for armhole, pick up and
work 50 sts between markers
2 and 3, cast on 34 for 2nd
armhole, and after 4th
marker work 48 sts into side
edge. Work 7¾" [20 cm] Rib
Patt across 214 sts; on 1st
WS row P selvage st and P1,
then alt K2, P2; end with K2,
P1, selvage st. Bind off all sts.
Around each armhole edge
crochet 1 rnd sc [UK = dc].

Hat: with 8 dpn cast on 48 sts evenly across and
work in st-st. When work measures 8¾" [22 cm] mark
every 8th st 6 times. On foll rnd, then on every 2nd
rnd 5 times K2tog after the marked sts = 12 sts. On
foll rnd K2tog 6 times. Cut thread, pull through rem 6
sts, pull up and darn away yarn tail.
Height of hat about 11¾" [30 cm].

Wrist warmers: with 7 dpn cast on 32 sts evenly
across and work in Welt Patt. When work measures
15" [38cm] bind off 5 at start of rnd for thumb hole; on
foll rnd cast on 5 over those bound off. When work
measures about 17¼" [44 cm] bind off all sts. Work
both wrist warmers alike.
