POSTCARD FROM PALM BEACH THE BENEFITS OF CROCHET - Learn a Useful Tool We often find that knitters tend to stay in their comfort zone, while crocheters often refuse to let go of their hooks. I know from first-hand experience that learning a few basics about both techniques can really give your projects a new dimension and enhance your love of the craft. Some wonderful uses for crochet include embellishments, borders, trims, closures and finishing. Crochet can stabilize a garment, tighten a neckline and gracefully adorn a project. Our finishers use it all the time! As a die hard knitter and reluctant hook holder, I’m here to tell you it’s not that difficult. Rebecca from our WPB store taught me how to crochet a few years ago and I haven’t looked back. I now have a granny square afghan underway that uses 10 different colorways in Noro. Check out the colors-fun fun fun!! Plus, the project is portable, making it easy to knock out a few squares each night or while riding in the car. If you’ve ever shopped at Anthropologie, you’ve probably admired their Bohemian selection of unusually accessories. Most of these are crocheted by hand; because no machine can replicate it. The gratification of learning something new, coupled with a completed new work of art keeps it interesting. So, for all you knitters out there: Pick up a hook and give it a try! As for your crocheters, remember this: You can make knitting look like crochet but you can never make crochet look like knitting. There’s a whole new world out there for you, too. Consider taking advantage of our $15 Beginners Class. At that price, you can bring a friend. Try something new. You’ll be glad you did. xo RT Great Balls of Yarn! Most of our classes are $35 plus materials for a two hour session. If you see a class you’d like to take and the time is inconvenient, tell us and we’ll try to form a group to meet your schedule. And, as always, we offer private classes which are a great alternative. At $30 per hour, you can make a “hit list” and get the one-on-one attention to tackle an array of techniques. Grab a friend and learn some new tricks of the trade! CLASS SCHEDULE Boca Raton FEBRUARY Monday 2. FINISHING Tuesday 3 BEG.
