Dear ,
SPECIAL EDITION
CALL TO ACTION FOR BREAST CANCER
ADVOCATES!
Important Breast Cancer Research in Jeopardy!
ADVOCACY WORKS!
I am asking each of you personally to
respond to the call to action and save the
Breast Cancer Prevention Trial called P4 STELLAR described in our lead article.
Since the PBCC began, we have seen the
effectiveness of the power of breast
cancer advocates speaking in one voice
to create important changes in medical,
legislative, insurance and corporate
communities across the state.
Like other breast cancer survivors, my
battle with this disease ignites my
resolve to make certain that our
generation is the last ever to fear breast
cancer. I want to take this opportunity
to thank all the advocates for joining the
PBCC efforts to "find a cure for breast
cancer now...so our daughters won't
have to©."
You can make a difference!
The NSABP, National Surgical
Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project, is
the group sponsored by the National
Cancer Institute which conducts clinical
trials. The NSABP's research has led
the world in breast cancer prevention
among high risk women. The new
study, P-4, tests the drugs Letrozole
and Raloxifene to determine the
effectiveness in preventing breast cancer and is
expected to reduce breast cancer by more than 70% for
high risk women.
The new trial, known as P-4 STELLAR (Study to
Evaluate Letrozole and Raloxifene) is the best hope on
the horizon for potential breakthroughs in learning how
breast cancer can be prevented in high risk women.
This trial has been put on hold by the National Cancer
Institute (NCI) and is in dire jeopardy of being
canceled, and we must act now, make our collective
voices heard, and make them heard loud and clear!
The P-4 study has passed a total of seven reviews by the
NCI with flying colors, yet this potentially life-saving
study is being stalled.
We strongly urge all breast cancer advocates
to help save the P-4 study! We believe that the
P-4 study is the next step in breast cancer
prevention research, one that needs to be
taken! Write to Dr. John E. Niederhuber, Director,

Vote in the "Kindness in Focus" Photo Contest
The PBCC
recently
submitted
photos of our
grassroots
partners to
the Kindess
in Focus
photo
contest
sponsored by
Squidoo and
VolunteerMatch. Of the hundreds of photos the website
received, 55 were chosed as finalists, and two
were ours! These 55 photos show the impact of giving
back and are meant to inspire others with images
of kindness and the spirit of volunteerism and
community. The two photos which receive the
most votes as of Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at
midnight EST, will receive $1000!
Please help the PBCC win this contest by voting for one
of our photos! Here's how:
 Go to www.squidoo.com/kindnessinfocus.
 Click on the little arrow next to the photo you want to vote for.
One of our photos is called "Hats Off to One of Their Own" and is
pictured above. The other is entitled "Wedding Joy" and shows a
bride and groom holding a donation card.
 A popup will ask you to log into Squidoo or create and account, if
you don't already have one.
 Once you log into Squidoo (or set up an account),
type www.squidoo.com/kindnessinfocus into your browser
again. When you click on the arrows, you'll see they turn green,
which means that you're logged in and your vote has counted!
 If you've just set up a new Squidoo account to vote, be sure to
check your email for a confirmation link. Your vote will be
erased unless you click that link within 24 hours!

The PBCC's recent fundraiser,
Serendipity: An Evening with Barry
Mason, was a resounding success!
Hundreds of people packed the Fulton
Theatre in Lancaster to hear Barry and
his pianist and friend, Donald Gould,
relate stories of writing songs for the
likes of Tom Jones, The Drifters,
Englebert Humperdinck and Elvis
Presley. Barry kept us all laughing and
singing all evening long. The total is still
being tabulated, but we know that
between $60,000 and $70,000 was
raised, which makes this one of the
largest fundraisers in PBCC history!
Thank you, Debbie Freer, Jenny Szajda,
and the entire Serendipity committee for
your hard work and diligence! Thank
you, Barry and Don, for sharing your
talents with us!
