Check-in location
Metro Toronto Convention Centre, North Building, Hall C, 255 Front Street West.
Check-in time
From 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. (participants must check in before 10 a.m. or they will not be permitted
to climb).
Registration
There are two easy ways to register. Please choose one:
1.Register online by visiting the Student Climb home page (http://unitedway.kintera.org/student).
2.Email us at [email protected], if your team is unable to access our online
registration system, and we will assist you.
Note: We no longer accept fax registrations.
Space is limited and subject to sell out. Register early!
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Student Climb, participants must be:
1.Affiliated with a primary/secondary school or a youth group (youth group members who are
under 18 years of age).
2.Accompanied by a chaperone aged 21 years or older.
Primary/secondary students (including youth group participants):
• Minimum fundraising requirement is $35 per person.
• A waiver must be signed by a legal guardian prior to the event, and by the climber and
the chaperone (21 or older) at the event. The student waiver is included at the end of this document.
• Climbers who present incomplete waivers will not be permitted to climb.
Note: For climbers under 12 years of age, the minimum height requirement is 42 inches/107
centimetres. Climbers under 12 must be accompanied in the stairwell by an adult (18 years of
age or older).
College/university students:
• Minimum fundraising requirement is $50 per person.
• The “Student Waiver,” for those under 18 years of age, is included at the end of this
document. Please fill it out and bring it to the event.
Pledges
Your minimum fundraising requirement (per person) must be submitted before or on event
day—Saturday, October 18—to be eligible to climb. However, you are encouraged to fundraise
until the fundraising deadline of November 14, 2014. There are two ways to collect pledges:
Online
• Team members can collect pledges online at http://unitedway.kintera.org/student.
Offline
• The offline pledge form (for cash and cheques) is included at the end of this document.
• Team Captains must collect and submit all pledge forms and donations from team members.
(Please ensure that all offline pledges are accompanied by complete and legible pledge
forms. Incomplete and/or illegible pledge forms will not be accepted.)
Important: Each student team member is responsible for raising and submitting the minimum
fundraising requirement by October 18, 2014 ($35 for primary/secondary students and youthgroup members who are under 18; $50 for college/university students and youth-group
members who are 18 and over).
Wristband and timing-chip pickup
Wristbands and timing chips will be distributed at the event. Team Captains can pick up all
wristbands and timing chips, upon checking in at Hall C.
Note: To participate in the Enbridge CN Tower Climb for United Way, you must wear your
wristband and timing chip on your right wrist.
Top School Award
Pull together the largest team, show the most spirit and your school could win the Top School
Award—a trophy inscribed with your school’s name, along with the year.* The winning school
keeps the trophy (and all the inherent bragging rights!) until a new champion is crowned the
following year.
*Open to secondary schools only.
Special offers!
Arrive before 7 a.m. on event day and receive a complimentary 2-for-1 voucher for a return visit
to the CN Tower (valued at $32 plus tax).
Invite your friends and family to greet you at the finish line—at the top of the CN Tower.
Discounted admission is only $12 plus taxes per person (rate available from 6 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
on Saturday, October 18).
Student waivers
The “Student Waiver” is included at the end of this document. Please photocopy this waiver
and distribute it (one per participant).
Under 18 years of age? If so, you must be accompanied by an adult (21 years of age or older).
Waivers must be signed by a legal guardian prior to the event, and by the climber and the adult
at the event. One signed waiver per participant must be submitted when picking up wristbands
and timing chips.
Chaperones (21 or older) are eligible for student pricing.
Note: Unaccompanied climbers who are under 18, and those who are without signed waivers
and registration forms, will not be permitted to climb. Climbers under the age of 12 must be
accompanied in the stairwell by an adult (21 years of age or older).
What happens on the day of the climb?
• Wristband pickup opens at 5 a.m. Arrive early to Metro Toronto Convention Centre, North
Building, Hall C, 255 Front Street West.
• Leave coats and other personal items at the coat check.*
• Team Captain ensures that all waivers are properly filled out and submitted.
• Team Captain submits all pledge money and waivers at the registration area. (Only those
climbers who have submitted the minimum required fundraising amount will receive a
wristband and timing chip.)
• The climb takes approximately 30 minutes, once your team leaves Hall C.
• Keep to the right, to allow faster climbers to pass.
• Pick up a bottle of water on the glass-floor level at the top of the CN Tower.
• The top of the CN Tower is busy during the climb. In the interest of public safety, please
make your way back to ground level (via the elevators) as soon as possible.
• Return to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, North Building, Hall C, 255 Front Street
West, to receive your official 2014 Enbridge CN Tower Climb for United Way T-shirt, and to
enjoy our onsite activities.
*United Way Toronto, CN Tower and Metro Toronto Convention Centre are not responsible for
lost or stolen articles. Please leave all valuables at home.
Step wisely
Please keep these pointers in mind for the event:
• It’s a hands-free climb. THIS POLICY IS STRICTLY ENFORCED. Climbers are NOT permitted
to carry anything up the stairwell, including the following: water bottles or camel packs;
backpacks; infants/children and strollers; cell phones, cameras or any electronic devices, such
as portable-music players. Volunteers, event staff, security and CN Tower staff cannot hold
personal items for climbers.
Fanny packs (subject to security check) are permitted for the purposes of carrying
identification and keys only. For your comfort, hydrating stations will be provided before your
climb (in Hall C) and after your climb (at the top of the CN Tower).
• You’ll need the right gear. For your safety, proper athletic footwear must be worn. Sandals
and costumes are NOT permitted in the stairwell.
