Like any product which is hand made from a natural material such as leather, there are many things you need to be aware of to ensure the life of your leather lounge is long and enjoyable. This booklet is designed to give you a detailed understanding of your leather lounge including how to care for it from the day it arrives in your home. Leather is a natural product and you will notice many imperfections which are evidence of genuine leather. Please refer to page 8 for a detailed description. Your lounge has travelled a long way to get to your home. When you receive your lounge you may find some compression on the padding. This is entirely normal. Please refer to pages 12-13 for a detailed explanation including other important tips to care for your lounge. Please refer to page 15 for full details. All lounge frames are constructed from a combination of structural components, engineered to give the frame strength and durability for many years. Because of it’s organic properties, there is no one hide the same. From horn wounds and barbwire scratches, to thickness variations, these markings make your piece unique. Types of Leather There are many types of leather which are suitable for different uses. How do we know what is the best leather for our needs? Simple ! Your lifestyle will determine which is right for you. To make it even easier, we have grouped our leather into three lifestyle categories: Protection - Performance - Natural Protection Active families require leather that offers a high degree of protection and is particularly forgiving. It is highly resistant to liquids, sunlight and handles the wear and tear that an active lifestyle demands. Protection leather requires little maintenance and has been embossed to ensure consistency in colour and texture. Ideal for families with children and pets! Grain wrinkles, stretch marks and closed scars are also typical characteristics of leather, the result of age, movement and comfortable wear. This further stamps it’s authenticity as a natural product. Barbed Wire Leather is a natural product. All of these inperfections are evidence of the product being genuine leather and are not considered to be defects in any way. In many instances, these coverings offer a more economic alternative. Bicast Leather Every day family use (Polyurethane coated) Bicast leather is suitable for everyday family use. It offers the look of leathers from a bygone era. Bicast leather is covered with a thick polyurethane layer applied for a smooth, shiny finish and extra protection. This covering is easily maintained and is ideally suited for small families or couples. Bonded Leather Every day family use (Polyurethane coated) Bonded leather is suitable for everyday family use and is ideal for those looking for a more economic alternative to natural leather. Bonded leather is a material made from genuine leather fibres, bonded together with a latex adhesive then layered with a polyurethane coating and cloth base. It is as flexible and supple as many natural leathers. Microfibre Hard wearing suede like fabric (Microsuede, scali suede, macrosuede etc) Microfibre is a man made suede tightly woven from microdenier polyester fibres creating a dense, suede like feeling. Microfibre repels most stains, is cool in summer, warm in winter and is scratch resistant. While not as durable as most leathers, Microfibre is by far the most hard wearing of all fabrics. It is ideal for couples or small families and is suitable for most daily uses. 11 Caring for Leather Lounges Normal Wear and Regular Usage Following delivery you may notice slight compression on the padding of your lounge. Straight after delivery and on a regular basis thereafter it is necessary to model your lounge to ensure the padding and cushions return to its initial appearance. There is no doubt leather is one of the most beautiful and practical coverings for upholstered furniture. Durable and hardwearing, it’s a product that will provide years of trouble free enjoyment. There are, however, some very important ‘care’ tips that must be followed to prolong the life of your leather. Softening of padding and cushions will occur over time. This will cause light creasing, wrinkling and slight stretching of the leather which is considered to be normal wear, enhancing the look and feel of leather. Important Things To Avoid If you are removing any protective wrapping do not use any sharp tools which could damage the leather or other upholstered covering. If you move your lounge do not lift or drag it by the cushions which are sewn into the frame. The correct way to move it is by lifting the sofa, at each end, from the base. Please do not sit on the armrests and backrests. They are not designed for seating and could potentially damage the frame. Do not expose any part of the lounge to direct sunlight. Prolonged exposure to direct or intense sunlight may cause leather to fade as well as excessive drying and cracking. 50 cm Ensure that every edge or part of the lounge is placed at least 50cm away from any heat source, including electric or gas heaters. Never use solvents, abrasives, shoe or sadddlery care products. Only ever use industry recommended leather care products suitable for the type of leather. These are available at any Nick Scali Furniture outlet. 12 Softening of seat cushions over time is completely normal and is not considered a defect in any way. Sitting on one particular seat most of the time will cause that seat to soften more than the others. For an even wear alternate your choice of seat regularly. Regular Care and Cleaning For Protection, Performance and Bicast Leather Regular Cleaning Do not allow dust to accumulate on the leather surface. Weekly, wipe dust off with a soft, damp cloth or using an authorised wipes product purchased from any Nick Scali Furniture outlet. Periodically (3-4 times per year), clean, condition and protect the entire leather surface using an authorised leather care kit, which can be purchased from any Nick Scali Furniture outlet. Follow the instructions provided with the kit. Food, Grease and Spot Cleaning Any spills must be removed immediately using a soft, non abrasive damp cloth or absorbent paper, applying minimal pressure from the outside of the stain moving towards the centre. To clean further, use an authorised leather care kit, which can be purchased from any Nick Scali Furniture outlet. Follow the specific spot cleaning instructions provided with the kit. For Natural Leather Regular Cleaning Only clean with a soft dry cloth or soft brush by dusting off any dirt. Food and Grease Remove with a soft dry cloth or soft brush. Avoid greasy spills as they stain and cannot be removed effectively. 13 Warranty Information Limited Warranty on Leather Lounges 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 14 In addition to the warranties implied by the Trade Practices ACT 1974 (Cth) or any other law, Nick Scali Furniture warrants that your leather lounge (Product) is supplied free of material defect (Leather Lounges Warranty). This Limited Warranty does not exclude or replace your statutory warranty rights. A claim under the Leather Lounges Warranty must be submitted to Nick Scali Furniture within 24 months of the date of purchase, validated by providing a copy of the original sales order or tax invoice and a copy of this Leather Lounges Warranty. A claim under this Leather Lounges Warranty in relation to recliner and sofa bed mechanisms which are of a mechanical nature (moving parts), must be submitted to Nick Scali Furniture within 12 months of the date of purchase. Liability for breach of this Leather Lounges Warranty and, to the extent legally permitted, liability for breach of any warranty, condition or right that is implied under the Trade Practices ACT 1974 (Cth) or equivalent legislation which cannot be excluded, will be limited, at Nick Scali Furniture’s option, to the replacement or repair of the Product or the supply of an equivalent product. This Leather Lounges Warranty is subject to the Product being cared for in accordance with the relevant care instructions (refer to page 13 of the Leather Booklet). This Leather Lounges Warranty is limited to the original purchaser at the original delivery address. To the extent permitted by law, Nick Scali Furniture is not liable, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), under any statute or otherwise, for or in respect of: (a) normal wear and tear (refer to page 13 of the Leather Booklet for details); (b) the natural characteristics of the product (refer to page 8 of the Leather Booklet for details); (c) damage caused by spills such as acid, solvents, dyes or other corrosive materials, ink, paint or bodily fluids; (d) damage caused by improper cleaning, negligence, treatment of the Product with chemicals, exposing the Product to the sun, extreme heat or bright light such as lamps; and (e) the cost of transporting the Product to and/or from the specified place of repair or replacement. You acknowledge and agree that the Product is handmade and therefore the size and weight of the Product may vary by up to 10% from the sample product or from any product specifications you have been quoted. Subject to any warranty, condition or right implied by the Trade Practices ACT 1974 (Cth) or any other law which may not be excluded, restricted or modified by agreement, all implied conditions, warranties and rights are excluded. Except as set out in this Leather Lounges Warranty and Nick Scali Furniture’s Lifetime Frame Warranty, and as provided under any warranty, condition or right implied by the Trade Practices ACT 1974 (Cth) or any other law which may not be excluded, restricted or modified by agreement, Nick Scali Furniture will not be liable, whether in contract, in tort (including negligience), under any statute or otherwise, for any loss or damage of any kind in connection with the Product. This Limited Warranty does not exclude or replace your statutory warranty rights. A claim under this Lifetime Frame Warranty must be submitted to Nick Scali Furniture within 7 days of the defect appearing to avoid further damage. A copy of the original sales order or tax invoice and a copy of this Lifetime Frame Warranty must be submitted with your claim. This Lifetime Frame Warranty does not apply to recliner and sofa bed mechanisms. To the extent legally permitted, liability for breach of this Lifetime Frame Warranty and liability for any breach of any warranty, condition or right that is implied under the Trade Practices ACT 1974 (Cth) or equivalent legislation which cannot be excluded, will be limited, at Nick Scali Furniture’s option, to the replacement or repair of the Product or the supply of an equivalent product. Warranty is limited to the original purchaser at the original delivery address.
