Week 1, June 10-14
•
AM: POP Art (Teaching Artist: Nicole Banowetz)
o Campers will learn about the history of pop art and make Andy Warhol inspired prints, Claus
Oldenburg inspired soft sculpture, funky food art and Lichtenstein style comic paintings.
o Supply List: All Supplies Included, Campers should bring a water bottle and a healthy snack.

PM: Jewelry Making (Teaching Artist: Laura Edwards)
o Pass on the ol’ camp friendship bracelets, in these workshop campers will learn to make
custom poly clay beads and use them in composing their own wire work and fiber work
jewelry. This class is sure to be a big hit and is a skill building class that campers can
continue practicing at home making lovely gifts for friends and family.

Week 2, June 17-21

AM: Professional Illustration (Teaching Artist: Laura Edwards)
o Advertisements, story illustration, cover art, and more. Campers will learn the traditional
step-by-step processes of professional illustration while exploring their own style and voice.
Campers will use professional grade papers, pencil and pen & ink.

PM: Watercolor 101 (Teaching Artist: Carol Campbell)
o Student artists will create a series of paintings emphasizing a different watercolor technique
in each exercise. Step-by-step demonstrations by the teacher will precede student work
sessions to instill an understanding of the process needed to create a successful landscape
or still-life as well as more whimsical assignments that draw further on the imagination.
Composition and perspective will be introduced and the importance of individual expression
will be emphasized. Students always create beautiful artwork in these highly creative
classes and enjoy applying what they have learned in this class to their artwork at home and
in school!

Week 3, June 24-28

AM: Studio Art (Teaching Artist: Nicole Banowetz)
o Learn about art history and get inspired to make your own artwork. Make your own Nick
Cave Sound Suits, Andy Goldsworthy nature Collage, Calder Mobile and more!

PM: Master Mosaics (Teaching Artist: Deb Griffith)
o Fit together pieces of color like a puzzle to make your own mosaic. Use beads, old china
plates, tile, glass and even rocks in to make your very own masterpiece. We look at pattern,
color and texture before we start to see what actually goes into making a mosaic and we
grout our finished pieces before going home so each masterpiece will be complete.
Everyone takes home an amazing work of art!

Week 4, July 8-12

AM: Musical Theatre for all Levels! (Teaching Artist: Lorilynne Lawson)
o Have fun working together as a cast and presenting a performance on the final day! Staging,
direction, auditioning and acting!! Musical performance choice will be determined by the
size of the class.

PM: Advanced Mosaics** (Teaching Artist: Deb Griffith)
o This workshop is for campers who have already completed one of our mosaic classes in the
past. Campers will work on a larger scale to create intricate scenes illuminated by color.
Campers will nip (cut their own tiles, glass and plates.

o **This workshop has a prerequisite: Master Mosaics or similar.
Week 5, July 15-19

AM: Gallery worthy Sculpture out of Found Objects! (Teaching Artist: Håkan Carheden)
o Waste not, want not is the motto for this eco-friendly workshop. Campers will work with
discarded everyday objects, large and small, to create gallery-worthy installations or freestanding pieces.

PM: Intro. to Hip Hop (Teaching Artist: Ray Maestas)
o Campers will work with renowned hip hop artist Ray Maestas to master the basics of hip
hop. and transform them into a choreographed hip-hop dance at the end of the week!

Week 6, July 22-26

AM: Who am I? 2 & 3-D Self Portraits (Teaching Artist: Sara Forrest)
o This 2 and 3-D workshop focuses on you! Who are you and what do you look like? We will
explore traditional techniques for capturing your own likeness including proportion,
expression, covering one eye or squinting. We will also make plaster casts of our faces and
paint them to our hearts desire!

PM: What in the World?! (Teaching Artist: Christine Kanda)

Travel the world without ever leaving the building! Campers will tour multiple cultures per
day to make cross-continental creations including origami, woven textiles, wire and fiber
bowls, Ukrainian dyed eggs and more!

Week 7, July 29-August 2

AM: Young Shakespeare (Teaching Artist: Nicole Palumba)
o Murder, feuds, love, Jealousy, Misunderstandings, Humor- Campers will delve into the wild
and exciting world of Shakespearean theatre. This workshop is perfect for boys and girls of
all skill levels and experience with Shakespeare. Campers will take a look at the text that
stands the test of time, learn Shakespearean theatre techniques, ease into acting out
Shakespeare’s most prolific scenes and evolve into translating Shakespeare’s themes into a
modern day play.

PM: Optical Illusions (Teaching Artist: Laura Edwards)
o Demystify the mathematical magic of optical illusion art. Based on works from M.C. Escher,
campers will create amazing tessellations. Kids love magic and with step-by-step lessons,
next they will learn to create colorful line optical illusion art that will baffle the mind. This is
a skill building class that ends in a whirlwind of ocular optical delight.

Week 8, August 5-9

AM: Nailed to the Wall, EXTREME Mixed Media (Teaching Artist: Håkan Carheden)
o Wood, plastic, paper, string, wire, nails- you name it, you can use it. Learn to transform
industrial objects into extreme masterpieces.
o Supply List: All Supplies Included, Campers should bring a water bottle and a healthy snack.

PM: Guitar 101 (Teaching Artist: Jen Lapinski)
o Get to know your guitar (or one of ours) in this week-long introductory workshop! Through
a fun mix of games and standard instruction, campers will start the week by learning how to
read chord charts and play chords and progress to playing songs and even writing their own!

Week 9, August 12-16

AM: 80’s Dance (Teaching Artist: Jamie Horban)
o The awesome 80’s come to life in this fun and funky dance workshop. Boys and girls of all
skill levels will love learning what it means to walk like an Egyptian, groove to the New Kids
on the Block, do the Safety Dance and more. Campers will electric slide their way through a
fun-filled week of dance and cap it all off with a performance for family and friends on
Friday.

PM: Festival of Chalk (Teaching Artist: Laura Edwards)

Set aside the buckets of sidewalk chalk, and learn the techniques of true chalk artist called
Madonnari. Miss Laura has directed many groups of young artists over the years at the
Denver Chalk Art Festival and other various public metro locations. Campers will explore
and experiment with chalk pastels on a variety surfaces mastering the grid technique.

Week 10, August 19-23

AM: ClayNation (Teaching Artist: Laura Edwards)
o A Camp ArtReach favorite! In this workshop campers will surely get their hands dirty… This
three-dimensional media encourages campers to think about structures, shapes and forms.
Campers will explore a variety of clay building techniques and come home with multiple
finished pieces!

PM: Acting for TV & Film (Teaching Artist: Jamie Horban)
o Lights, Camera, ACTION! Let your inner actor out in this skill and confidence building
workshop. Campers will have a blast creating, acting, and filming their own commercials,
newscasts, and TV Shows. As the week goes on, Campers will be introduced to the science
of the green screen!
