Almonds are probably the healthiest and most beneficial nuts in nature, and their oil has been used as an ancient remedy for many ailments and conditions. Sweet Almond oil is made by pressing the dried kernels of the Sweet Almond Tree. What comes out of the process is the golden medicinal oil which is proven to be rich in vitamins, minerals and fatty acids. Many of the benefits and uses of our Sweet Almond Oil are outlined in this book. To give you a brief history, Sweet Almond Oil has been known since the mid 3000 B.C. It was already widely recognized in Ancient Greece and Italy. Literature clearly shows that people then were already aware of its properties and benefits. Ancient Greek Mythology, the Bible and even the writings of Shakespeare mention Almonds and their oil. It’s an old, old knowledge from people who were more attuned to nature than we are now. Page | 3 There are 2 types of Almonds – the Sweet Almond and the Bitter Almond. The tree is native to South Asia and the Middle East. What distinguishes one from the other is that Sweet Almond and its oil are both odorless. Sweet Almond Oil is a golden liquid that has a subtle nutty taste. Of the two types of Almonds, Sweet Almond is the one that’s edible and the extract from its seed is widely used by the cosmetic and health industries. Bitter Almond Oil, on the other hand, is an essential oil that is highly potent and toxic in its pure form. It consists of glucose, cyanide and benzaldehyde. It is only used for its delightful almond scent. It is not edible and does not have medicinal properties like the Sweet Almond Oil. The Benefits of Sweet Almond Oil Since our product is made from 100% Sweet Almond Oil, it has retained all of its medicinal and healing properties. You can be assured that our Sweet Almond Oil does not contain chemicals. It’s nature’s medicine in a bottle. Here are the reasons why Bodyality’s Sweet Almond Oil is good for you: It is composed of 3 essential fatty acids which are the secrets to its moisturizing power. These are the Linoleic, Oleic and Palmitic Acids. Linoleic is an Omega-6 Fatty Acid and on its own, is a proven anti-inflammatory that helps retain moisture in the skin when applied. This means that you will have fewer wrinkles and you can say goodbye to dry skin! It is rich in Vitamins E, D, A, B1, B2 and B6, which help nourish your skin, smooth your complexion and even help cells regenerate and repair themselves. Page | 4 It is a powerhouse of 2 essential minerals – Magnesium and Calcium. Calcium in your epidermis helps the body build new cells and tells the body to let go of old skin. Calcium deficiency in the skin makes it look dry and unhealthy! Magnesium is a wonderful infection fighter. It’s helpful in curing acne, psoriasis, eczema and even warts, when applied. It will make your hair supple and your nails healthy and strong. The Vitamin E in the oil helps protect your skin from the damaging UV rays. Ladies, you’ll be happy to know that it can be used during pregnancy to prevent and get rid of those unwanted stretch marks! Again, this is because Sweet Almond Oil is such an excellent moisturizer. It is a mild and lightweight oil, which is one of the reasons why it’s a popular additive to beauty products. It doesn’t leave your hair and skin greasy like most oils and is perfect as a massage oil. It is good for all skin types. Light the candle and let it melt for 20 to 30 minutes until a melted pool forms. (or until you have the amount of liquid you need) Put out the candle. Dip your fingers in the oil and apply directly on your skin. You can also pour the oil directly on your palm or on your body during a massage. (It won’t burn you! When used as a base for making Scented Oils Sweet Almond Oil is probably the most widely used carrier oil. It is odorless and it’s good for all skin types. It’s a hydrating and awesome lubricant! Besides, the anti-oxidant properties of Vitamin E give the oil a longer shelf life. It is also absorbent, non-greasy and retains the scent well. Another type of Scented Oil is used in Aromatherapy. It requires the use if a burner to release the scent. Carrier oils are used since Essential Oils by themselves are too strong and needs to be diluted. Here are some recipes if you want to make your own scented oil. How to make Scented Oil for Aromatherapy The combination is 50% Sweet Almond Oil and 50% Fragrance Oil. (Choose your favorite scent) Mix equal parts of the 2 oils and pour in a bottle. You can now pour a few drops of the Scented Oil in your burner. When using Essential Oils, just pour a few drops on the bottle containing the Sweet Almond Oil. Adjust the amount depending on the strength of the Essential Oil, which varies. ** Note: Do not bombard your senses with strong fragrances. Use just enough scent to fill the air around you. How to Make Scented Oil for Skin and Hair Applications Prepare a clear or amber glass container with a cap. Using a funnel, fill the container with Sweet Almond Oil. Add the Essential oil one drop at a time to test the strength of the scent. Page | 17 If you are using a Fragrance Oil instead of an Essential Oil, you will need to add more. The Formula: 3 drops of Essential Oil for every 1 oz. of Sweet Almond Oil 20 drops of Fragrance Oil for every 1 oz. of Sweet Almond Oil Once you are satisfied with the scent, screw the cap on tightly. Place the container in a dark place for 3 to 5 days. (The infusion process gives the scent time to mix with the oil in the container) When used as an ingredient for Lotions Our Sweet Almond Oil is a wonderful ingredient to add to your homemade lotions. It is not greasy and easily absorbed by your skin. You already know of the oil’s moisturizing properties. It softens, smoothens and hydrates your skin. How to Make Organic Lotions Ingredients: ½ cup Sweet Almond Oil ¼ cup Coconut Oil ¼ cup Beeswax 2 tbsp. Shea Butter A few drops of Essential Oil for fragrance Instructions: Combine all ingredients in a pint sized glass jar with a lid. Boil a couple of inches of water in a saucepan. Use low heat. Put the glass jar in the saucepan, with the lid lightly screwed on. When the ingredients in the jar start to melt, shake or stir occasionally until fully melted. Pour the contents into a storage jar. Page | 18 Here’s another recipe for making natural Lotions: Ingredients: 1 cup Aloe Vera gel ¾ oz. Beeswax ½ cup Sweet Almond Oil 1 tbsp. Cocoa Butter 10 drops Essential Oil (your choice) Instructions: Put the Beeswax and Sweet Almond Oil in a glass container. Using the double boiler method, put the glass container in the pan to melt the ingredients. In a separate bowl, combine the Aloe Vera and Essential Oil. Pour the melted Beeswax and Sweet Almond Oil mixture in a blender. (this is important to prevent separation) Allow the mixture to cool in room temperature until it’s a little stiff. When it’s cool, run the blender at low speed and slowly pour the Aloe Vera mix. Run a spatula on the sides of the blender to incorporate all ingredients. Blend the mixture until it’s the same consistency as a regular lotion. Pour the lotion into a sterilized jar. The lotion will last for 6 weeks when placed in the refrigerator. ************************ Bodyality’s Sweet Almond Oil – A Final Word There are many ways you can benefit from our Sweet Almond Oil. Here are a few notes to help you make the most of its benefits: If you’re allergic to nuts in general, you might also get an adverse reaction from the oil. Although, did you know that Almonds are not really nuts? It’s a drupe, a kind of fleshy fruit in the same family as the Cherry and the Plum. But just to be sure, put a small portion of the oil on your skin to test for allergic reactions. Exfoliating is good for the skin as it removes dead skin cells, but over exfoliating can also be damaging due to the constant abrasion. Don’t exfoliate more than once or twice a week. Our Sweet Almond Oil is not edible. Don’t add it to your food or drink. Oil from Bitter Almonds should not be used on the skin.
