Maxwell “The quality of a leader is reflected in the standards they set for themselves.” - Ray Kroc “Setting an example is not the main means of influencing another, it is the only means.” - Albert Einstein “A good example has twice the value of good advise.” - Anonymous “A person always doing his or her best becomes a natural leader, just by example.” - Joe DiMaggio Poom/Black Belt Master Chong’s World Class Tae Kwon Do “Example is leadership.” - Albert Schweitzer “It’s not fair to ask of others what you are not willing to do yourself.” - Eleanor Roosevelt Martial Arts Perspective Life Skill Perspective The significance behind the way that students line up in Tae Kwon Do class represents respect for senior ranks, as well as the philosophy that one should "lead from the front". Each line should be able to look at the students in front of them and see greater and greater examples of skill and effort. As a Black belt, you stand closest to the front and have the greatest responsibility to serve as a role model. Our actions, words, and example are on display to others much of each day. In a very short period of time people will make judgments about our abilities, attitude and character based on how we represent ourselves. No element is too small to consider. Make it a habit of dressing for success, carrying yourself with good posture, and speaking kindly of others both when they are and are not present. Conduct yourself as though your words and deeds are on display and your relationships and reputation will benefit. People like to follow a leader whose example they admire and respect. On the one hand, it is important to set the example for all of the big things - kihapping and training with intensity and demonstration high levels of techniques. However, you must also be equally diligent about setting the right example for the smaller moments such as how you handle a loss in a competition, boards not breaking at a level test, and even how respectfully you bow to your seniors and instructors at special events outside of the school. Be sure to lead by example all of the time and others will follow your lead. 3 Poom/Black Belt Master Chong’s World Class Tae Kwon Do Form: Koryo 1 • Ready Stance • Back Stance • Double Knifehand Block 2a • Low Side Kick 3a • Forward Stance • Knifehand Strike 2b • High Side Kick 3b • Forward Stance • Middle Punch 3c • Back Stance • Body Block 4 Poom/Black Belt Master Chong’s World Class Tae Kwon Do 4 • Back Stance • Double Knifehand Block 5a • Low Side Kick 6a • Forward Stance • Knifehand Strike 5b • High Side Kick 6b • Forward Stance • Middle Punch 6c • Back Stance • Body Block 5 7a • Forward Stance • Knifehand Down Block 8c • Forward Stance • Arc Strike 7b • Forward Stance • Arc Strike 9a • Front Snap Kick Poom/Black Belt Master Chong’s World Class Tae Kwon Do 8a • Front Snap Kick 9b • Forward Stance • Knifehand Down Block 8b • Forward Stance • Knifehand Down Block 9c • Forward Stance • Arc Strike • Kihap 6 10a 10b • Front Snap Kick • Forward Stance • Palm Strike Down Poom/Black Belt Master Chong’s World Class Tae Kwon Do 11 12a 12b • Forward Stance • Open Block 13 • Front Snap Kick • Forward Stance • Palm Strike Down • Walking Stance • Open Block 7 14a 14b • Back Stance • Single Knifehand Block 15c • Forward Stance • Groin Attack • Back Stance • Strike to Palm Target 16 • Walking Stance • Down Block 15b 15a • Stepping Over 17 • Walking Stance • Down Block with Palm Poom/Black Belt Master Chong’s World Class Tae Kwon Do • Side Kick 18 • Horse Riding Stance • Elbow Strike 8 19a 19b 20a • Back Stance • Back Stance • Stepping Over • Single Knifehand Block • Strike to Palm Target 20c • Forward Stance • Groin Attack 21 • Walking Stance • Down Block Poom/Black Belt Master Chong’s World Class Tae Kwon Do 20b • Side Kick 22 • Walking Stance • Down Block with Palm 23 • Horse Riding Stance • Elbow Strike 9 Poom/Black Belt Master Chong’s World Class Tae Kwon Do 24 • Gathering Stance 25a • Forward Stance • Reverse Knifehand Strike 25b • Forward Stance • Knifehand Down Block 26a • Forward Stance • Knifehand Strike 10 Poom/Black Belt Master Chong’s World Class Tae Kwon Do 26b • Forward Stance • Knifehand Down Block 27a • Forward Stance • Knifehand Strike 27b • Forward Stance • Knifehand Down Block 28 • Forward Stance • Arc Strike • Ready Stance 11 Falling & Rolling Front Fall Poom/Black Belt Master Chong’s World Class Tae Kwon Do Step 1: Extend both arms out horizontally, “HANA.” Step 2: Squat down and bring both arms forming a triangular position, “DUL.” Step 3: Kick out both legs and fall onto both forearms while turning head sideways, “Kihap.” Key Points • • • • • Beware of placing the arms and hands too low or too high, risking injury to the face.
