Setting Up Your Trent Gmail Account in Mac Mail Step 1: Enabling IMAP in Trent Gmail account Log into your Trent Gmail account. If you have not accessed your Trent Gmail through myTrent before – Log into myTrent and select Email from the blue menu bar, then select My Inbox and accept the terms of Google. If you have accessed your Trent Gmail account through myTrent in the past you can – Log in through myTrent OR go to www.google.ca and select Gmail from the black menu bar at the top. Log in with the following credentials: Username: [email protected] Password: Trent Password Click Sign In, then Click Continue. A Trent login will appear, use your normal myTrent login credentials and click Login. Once you have accepted the terms of Google and your Trent Gmail account loads up, select the Gear icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen and select Settings. Once you are in the Gmail Settings, click on Forwarding and POP/IMAP from the top. Next to IMAP Access: click the radio button next to Enable IMAP. *** IMAP is disabled by default. *** Click the Save Changes button on the page. Step 2: Setting up your Trent Gmail account in Mac Mail Open the Mail application, usually located on the Dock. Select the Mail menu from the top left, next to the Apple, and select Preferences… From the next window, select Accounts. Near the bottom left hand corner of the Accounts page select the “ + ” to add a new account. Add Account Fill in the form below with the following information: Full Name: Type your full name (ex. User) Email Address: Type in your Trent email address (ex. [email protected]) Password: Type in your Trent password Click Continue to advance. Incoming Mail Server On this page you will use the following information: Account Type: IMAP Description: This is options and you can leave this blank or you can call it something like “Trent Gmail IMAP” Incoming Mail Server: imap.gmail.com Username: Type in your Trent email address (ex. [email protected]) Password: Type in your Trent password Click Continue to advance. The Mail application will attempt to connect to the Google IMAP server. Outgoing Mail Server On this page you will use the following information: Description: This is option so you may leave this field blank, or you can come up with a name (ex. Gmail SMTP Server). Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.gmail.com Un-Check “Use only this server”. In the event you are unable to send mail out with the Gmail server your Mac Mail application will try other servers to use. Check off “Use Authentication” User Name: Type in your Trent email address (ex. [email protected]) Password: Type in your Trent password Click Continue to advance. The Mail application will attempt to connect to the Google SMTP server. The next page will display a summary of the account. You should see you Full name and your Trent Email address next to Email Address and User Name. If it isn’t already checked, check off Take account online Click Create to finish the account creation process. On the Account page you should see the Trent Gmail account displayed in the list. Verify the account information. Close the Accounts window. It can take a few seconds to a few minutes before your Trent Gmail starts downloading into the Mail application.
