Introduction
Fishtail braids have become one of the most popular types of braids. Kim
Kardashian, Blake Lively, Eva Longoria, and Minka Kelly have been known for
sporting this hairstyle!
The great thing about Fishtail braids is that it can be worn in many ways. For a
messy look, it can be worn simply on the side of the face or on top of the head. For
a more elegant look, it can be worn tightly down your back. In this manual, you
will learn how to make a basic Fishtail braid that can be worn down your back or
to the side of your face.
I will not explain how to make other types of Fishtail braids such as the “Half-up
Fishtail braid” or the “Fishtail braid bun”. These Fishtail braids require the same
basic motion and can be done once you have learned how to make a basic Fishtail
braid.

Prepping Your Hair
Before you start making your Fishtail braid, you should follow these steps to
ensure your hair is ready to be braided.
1. Start with slightly damp or dry hair.
2. Comb or brush your hair to get rid of tangles. If you have curly hair, use a
comb rather than a brush. The comb will allow you to keep your curls and
avoid frizz.
3. Use a curling iron if you hair is straight and sleek. Adding curls into your
hair will make it easier to make a Fishtail braid and will give you a
sophisticated look. This is optional.
4. For a messy Fishtail braid, mess up the curls in your hair with your fingers.
If you decided not to put curls in your hair, you can dampen your hair and
run your fingers in your hair in circular motions.
5. For a tidy look, brush your hair instead of combing it.
Now you are ready to make a Fishtail braid!

Making Your Hairstyle Last
To make sure your hairstyle lasts use any hairspray of your choice to set your hair
in place. Be careful not to spray hairspray into your eyes. For the best results, spray
6 inches away from your hair.
Finishing Up
Spray some hairspray on your brush and brush your hair to tame “flyaway hair”.
This will tidy up your braid.
