Dear friends and sponsors of YCM!
Dear friends and sponsors of YCM!
Selamat Tahun Baru! Happy New Year! We welcome the new year with joy
and an open mind about the exciting adventures and possibilities this year holds for us
all!
Miss Jen returned from her visit to Sumatra with Mr Ben; they had a great
time exploring this beautiful country!
Visit from Bapak Ronny and his wife – Jakarta Hidden Tours – one of our new
projects, Bogor Hidden Tours…
Said goodbye to 4 students to go to IGTC, keep struggle and good luck!….
Ibu Gesine visited… had tutors dinner together, expanded into downstairs
also – many new rooms, new paints, extra kitchen, exciting…
Global Knowledge Competition Week – different categories: cooking, maths,
literature, science, countries, computers, sewing. On Friday the 4 teams competed
against each other. The winning team in the morning was The Chlorophyll, and the
winning team in the afternoon was The Air.
Futsal competition starting beginning of Feb - invited local NGOs and school in
our network – 16 teams in total, great opportunity for YCM to strengthen those
relationships, practice skills with healthy competition and have a little fun!
We continue to learn so much – all of us, including the tutors! Sometimes the
students inspire us and renew our energy too; for this we are so grateful. As we look
ahead to this new year, we are keen to grow and learn and improve in every way
together. As each month passes we are so happy to be here and be a part of our
students’ lives!
Warmest Regards,

Dear friends and sponsors of YCM!
“What else is love but understanding and rejoicing in the fact that other people live, act and
experience otherwise than we do…?” Friedrich Nietzsche
You got it right Friedrich!!! That’s what we’re doing here!!
Happy valentines to all!! And welcome to the February update from YCM where we kept
rejoicing at our progress, new experiences, adventures and where we shared lots of love and
dreams. In other parts of the world, love is probably celebrated once a year on Feb 14th, but
here at YCM we celebrate love everyday because we just love to do it!
Early this month Ibu Gesine came for her regular visit. Everyone was so excited to have
her here and as always, she reminded us how important cleanliness and maintenance is at
YCM. So she asked all YCM members to work hand in hand to clean YCM one Saturday. The
cleaning time was fun. We could see how much love we felt for the place through this activity
with lots of laughter and enthusiasm. The older students encouraged the younger ones to feel
the same and taught them that YCM is their second home so they have to show the same love
to YCM that they show to their own home. Sweating, tired and yet happy after cleaning up YCM
all the students gathered and prepared themselves for a big lunch that Ibu Gesine provided not
only for the students but also for the alumni. It was another great lunch at YCM where we sat
as one big family celebrating life.
Another life to celebrate belonged to Carola Nowak who had her birthday on Feb 4th.
She is Phillip’s mother, (one of our German AFS volunteers), who came here for vacation with
her daughter and Phillip’s sister, Merle Nowak. We decided to have surprise party for her! Her
son, Phillip, was all into this plan so he took his mom, who obviously didn’t know about the
party or the surprise, to YCM for a regular visit. They walked slowly to the door and when she
opened it… SURPRISE!!!!! She was startled when she found the room full of YCM students
waiting for her. We all sang her happy birthday in German, Spanish, English and Indonesian!
We could tell from her response that she was both surprised and happy. She said she’s been
waiting for this visit and that YCM is way better than she expected. Also she brought us some
surprise presents for the basketball club. She gave us amazing jerseys and a bag since we
didn’t have jerseys to practice or for games. How AWESOME was THAT?!!! Thank you Carola!!
Celebrations also occurred for Chinese people everywhere. Happy Chinese New Year!!!!
GONGXI FACAI!!!! Here at YCM we had one day holiday and when we came back to class the
next morning, Mark (Australian AYAD volunteer) had a surprise all the way from China. The
surprise was a beautiful American lady who lives in Shenzhen, China, named Sushien Pang.
She shared some amazing stories about living in different countries, their cultures, languages,
and food. The students were so excited and they asked her about many things. They really
showed how much improvement they’ve made with their English lately with the help of the
amazing YCM tutors and our various foreign visitors. At the end of our session with Su, she
gave us some small sweets from China. Yummy! Some of our students from Respect 1A also
took her to Bogor Botanical Gardens (Kebun Raya). They are the intermediate class but this
opportunity definitely improved their English skills drastically. For example just yesterday Meri
(one of the students from Respect 1A) had an intense discussion with Mark in English about
religion. How great was that???!!! Well… Anyway… Su wasn’t the only visitor who came to YCM,
another friend of Marks’ also visited. His name was Luke Thorpe, an American former military
officer who served in Iraq. Of course… it was another new experience for our students, so
thank you Su and Luke!!! Our door will always open for you guys.
Celebrations of life and love in fashion also happened when Lena Raps (a German intern
at Asmara Garment Company) held a presentation at YCM. We divided all students including
elementary and the sewing classes into several groups. Lena did her presentation in English but
that wasn’t a problem at all since the students from higher English level helped their friends
(with a little help from me). She talked about fashion and garments and everything in between,
it was very interesting because the students got so much new information. All about garments,
the environment, the interaction between culture and fashion, the economics of the industry
and how peoples’ personalities effect what they wear and buy. Everyone was so amazed with
the presentation; they never gave much thought to the clothes they wear. After the
presentation we asked them to design their own clothes and they presented their designs in
front of everyone. They were very excited and it was very astonishing how well they presented
their designs using only English! The end of the day was sealed by a fantastic performance
from 5 “beautiful girls”. If you’re guessing that our beautiful female tutors did the performance
you’re completely wrong! It was our MALE tutors who did it!! Yes!! Apry, Ono, Dudi, Filla and
Mark dressed up like women and they were pretty… a great way to close the day.
Not all celebrations of love are sweet... sometime they’re also bittersweet… As
happened when we had to say goodbye to one of our tutors Kohar who was off to Australia.
YAY!!! Finally after a long struggle and much planning, Kohar’s dream came true. He went to
Adelaide to learn and experience the schooling system in Australia. He will come back in six
weeks and yes it’s not a long time but we miss him already…
And of course, what’s love without gratitude… We have lots of thanks to give to IGTC
(International Garments Training Centre) and Gyoengy who have been generously giving
opportunities to our sewing classes to learn more about the fashion industry every couple of
weeks. It is unbelievable how far they’ve come with both their skills and knowledge about the
industry. They are more confident, independent and the most important thing is that we can
see them progressing everyday.
That’s all for the February newsletter. Remember, we love you and we’ll see you soon
with more news about the YCM Exhibition, Aussie sports and “the Return”. Till then, take care.
Best regards,
From all at YCM, and written by Miss Bella.
Dear friends and sponsors of YCM!
March has been a busy month for all YCM family members after we had one full month full of
romance in February! We are all happy to keep you updated on our progress and activities.
Early this month we had a special visit from Jascha’s mum, Elvira Gruebel. She a very nice lady
who came all way from Germany to visit and kindly donated some books and games We also
celebrated her son, Jascha’s birthday. There are some of our members of YCM who celebrated
their birthday in March; Icha and Aris. We prepared a surprise where Mrs Putu baked a birthday
cake for them. Jascha gave his first cake piece to his mum but the most touching scene was
when Aris, who is also the son of our security man Bapak Apud, gave his cake to his father with
a hug. Pak Apud had tears in his eyes when he said his wishes for his son and Aris was crying
and admitted that he was happy his father showed him his profound love. We wish to say a big
thank you to some of the generous German supporters for the games and English books!
Thanks to Erika, Gisela and Gudrun, and of course Elvira!
The YCM Chess community entered the Bogor Chess competition on Sunday 14th with their
external Coach. They enjoyed the day very much, being able to meet and observe others, and
test their skills and speed. They are developing rapidly and sometimes teach our younger
students how to play on Saturday afternoons.
The Indonesian National Examination for several senior school students was held. They
hopefully will be graduating from senior high school in June this year and we will do our best to
support them in whatever they decide to do after that. On Saturday 27 our YCM team joined
Aussie Rules football in Cibubur, and watched Jakarta Bintangs play Singapore. Thanks to
sponsorship support from AFL Jakarta who organised our team to go with Bugi and Ono. The
Jakarta Globe journalist wrote some articles about the day, mentioning Ono as best player on
Bogor Thunder team
http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/sports/youth-movement-opens-new-doors/366322
Last week of March we held the Theme week: ‘Cleaning!’ With Earth Hour just been, and
environmental issues always in our minds, we decided to make our lessons and activities
around cleaning! This included all things like health and personal hygiene, How To do cleaning
of something, making cleaning fun, creating information posters, brainstorming community
activities, etc. Our Confiendence class created a short movie about cleaning and YCM, with
interviews of students and tutors, and why cleaning is important! They made it in only 1 day,
and it’s awesome! We are very proud of their creativity.
Warmest Regards,

Dear friends and sponsors of YCM!
April was a very big month of activities!
To start with early this month we received resources from Kangguru. We were so happy
when we got the package full with resources such as magazines, stationeries, small
items for prizes and listening resources. These will help us to improve our teaching
skills as tutors as well as benefit our students. Thank you Kangguru! Also Miss Jen had
added some items to our shopping list such as washing machine, mop, fan for film
room, 16 port modem, resource book for each of our Communities (sport, music, art,
chess) – with Australian donation money from Jen’s old work and some friends in
Brisbane. This would definitely make everything much easier for us. Thanks Jen and the
friends in Australia!
We had two of our beloved tutors, Apry and Ibu Lillis celebrate their birthday this April.
Some cakes and suprises were arranged by the students and the result.. SURPRISE!!!
Happy birthday Apry and Ibu Lilis - we love you.
On Tuesday 13th four VIDA volunteers (from Austrlia) visited us. We organized a tour
activity for them around Bogor with a group of students as guides. This activity helped
oru students practice English, interact with foriegners and practice for a possible future
project. The VIDAs were so happy and enjoyed their visit to YCM. We closed the activity
with some performences from different locations they will work in Indonesia.
On Saturday 17th some tutors and elementary students had a trip to Jakarta for Kids
Film Festival, sponsored by Die Brucke. The kids enjoyed the trip so much, as it was
their first time to Jakarta. Even though the trip was hot & long, they were very excited
and happy for this new experience!
On Wednesday 21st Desa Anak Anak visited us, from Cipanas. They came to learn and
compare YCM teaching methods. They talked to our students and all the tutors. We
hope they got valuable lessons from us to apply in their place and look forward to
working more in partnership. See you again soon!
On Thursday 22nd to celebrate the Earth Day, International School of Bogor invited us
to join their Earth Day activities. We sent some of our students to join, give small
presentation,
promote
YCM
and
develop
their
networking
skills.
On Monday 26th ten AYAD volunteers (from Australia) visited YCM. We did the same
tour activity as with the VIDAs, but with different tracks and tasks. The AYADs enjoyed
this activity very much, as did the students. In this visit, we were able to meet James
our new tutor for our Film Community. We will see him again in May. WELCOME
JAMES!!!
On 29th & 30th Mrs Putu and Ono went to a meeting in Jakarta with AusTraining. YCM
is the only NGO from Bogor invited to that meeting so this is quite an achievement for
us. They were able to interact with other organisations and government peoples, and
represent our Yayasan at this level.
Lastly but very luckily, YCM will receive 10 computers donated from BCA (Bank Central
Asia). We are very grateful and would like to say a big thank you to BCA for the
donation! We will make sure to use it them good purposes, as we really need to expand
our computer capacity.
Warmest Regards,

Dear friends and sponsors of YCM!
The month of May was exciting and full of projects! Yes. it was a very busy month. but we had
lots of fun doing all of them.
To begin May, YCM competed in an AFL footy game at Cibubur. Most of our boys participated
in this Aussie game and they were very excited. YCM boys are very keen to play sports as they
have regular footy practice and they are good at it. We won the first match but we lost the
second; nevertheless we still have one more chance to win the whole competition and go to Bali,
so the fight is not over yet!
On May 8, after 2 month of struggling we are happy to announce that we had YCM Futsal final
match. Since last March our 2 beloved tutors Apry and Ono had organized an amazing futsal
competition. The project was a big success even though we didn’t win the competition. In this
event we learned lessons about organizing an event, a good lesson for all of us.
This month also was the first month for James in our team and his first assignment was making a
short movie about YCM to compete in a German film festival. The pressure was on but they did
great!
Congrats
James.

A couple weeks after his arrival to Bogor, James’ wife Kristy finally joined him and we had the
opportunity to meet her and their cute baby Grace.
We also had the honor to have Pak A. Basith, as guest speaker from IPB talking about
motivation and entrepreneur steps. He gave interesting and good lessons for us.
On May 15, YCM was chosen as the host for Art Day with Die Brucke. Last year we won the
competition but unfortunately this year we finished as runner up but have no worries because we
still have next year to catch up!! It was also the start of Jascha to travel around Indonesia for few
weeks. Miss Jen also left to learn bahasa Indonesia in Jogyakarta for a week. Miss you already
guys.
On Sun 23rd a group of students went to Jakarta with ISB and did face painting and networking.
We have a new program this month. Once every 2 weeks tutors take turn to become an aerobics
class instructor. So far so good, healthy lifestyle starts from now on at YCM.
It was a special day on May 27, Jen and Kohar’s birthday!!! Congratulations both of you, we
wish you all the best this year. Great surprise party for them and especially for Kohar, he got
special treatment from the students. WE LOVE YOU BU AND PAK!!!
To close this month on May 29 YCM Student Council organized a Bazaar for sewing class
products. All this time Ibu Lilis and the class had been so busy preparing this event and it was a
good paid off. The bazaar was one successful event this month. Congratulations SC and sewing
class!

Dear friends and sponsors of YCM!
On the first day of June the tutors and 30 students visited Desa Anak Anak (DAA) at Cipanas,
Bogor (about 2hours away). DAA is a non-for-profit organization that provides services,
alternative education, vocational training, organic farming projects and more for poor youth. It is
sponsored by a variety of local, national and international donors. We link with them regularly
for activities, as we have a very similar structure and projects.
Their location is beautiful in the mountains, surrounded by green fields and lots of space. The
people are so friendly, but YCM students noticed the difference in the atmosphere .Shy students
which were not yet as lively and confident as us, so we hope to be positive role models for those
students and encourage them to build up their confidence.
Here in Yayasan Cipta Mandiri, the tutors work together as one unity. We support each other
both professionally and personally. Therefore to strengthen our bonding we went river rafting.
We enjoyed that time of our togetherness. We hope we can keep improving how we work
together in the future.
Here in Yayasan Cipta Mandiri, the tutors work together as one unity. We support each other
both professionally and personally. Therefore to strengthen our bonding in working together we
went river rafting on 14th at Sukabumi. We enjoyed that moment of our togetherness. We hope
we keep improving how we work together in the future.
Once every two weeks tutors take turns to present something at the tutor workshops. Apry
taught us about being creative and unique. Stefan taught us about team work. They did great
jobs and added more knowledge for us.
We also received box of some promotion items to use for prizes from Jen’s friends at Office for
Youth, Brisbane, Australia. Thank you very much friends!
On 17th to celebrate Bogor’s 528th anniversary 60 students and our tutors visited Bogor Istana
Palace, which is only open for public during birthday celebrations for Bogor. Stefan organized it
with Ase (Student Council President) but unfortunately Stefan and Jascha had to go to Malaysia
for visa processes and couldn’t join but enjoyed their experience in a new country. The students
who visited the palace learnd more about their home town and history.
On 21st Ibu Gesine returned to YCM after traveling and stayed for a week. She shared her travel
experiences with the students and they loved it. She also arranged a special event to celebrate
the World Cup. Our YCM event of ‘World Cup Day’ included quizzes, competitions, cooking and
eating German food and of course we all know which team Ibu Gesine supports…GO
GERMANY! They watched the matches until 3.30am and 30 students slept over. After a
general tutor meeting Gesine invited all tutors to her favorite Warung close to her former home.
We had the chance to chat and share together.
On 26th our students went to the AFL final footy match at Cibubur but it was postponed until next
month due to rain, so we have more time to prepare again.
Gyongyver Nagy, Education & Design Manager of IGTC (International Garment Training
Center) gave a Saturday sewing lesson to our sewing class. We will continue this relationship
with Gyi and IGTC who will visit for a lesson at YCM once a month and 11 of our sewing
students will be trained at IGTC fortnightly to develop and improve the students’ sewing skills,
with professional factory standard machinery and processes. Thanks Gyi and your team of
assistants!
Lastly on 29th Bella organized a visit from Green Earth Indonesia Company to give a lesson
about organic composting. The students gained knowledge about compost and how to manage
our environment, and extended their links with new people. Therefore I would like to say thank
you to Bapak Genta, President Director of Green Earth Indonesia Company, for their visit.

Dear friends and sponsors of YCM!
July has been a busy month for all of us here. On the first day we held YCM Orientation
Day for the new students, of which there were many! Lots of elementary students joined us and
we introduced them to YCM environment, our philosophy and our rules. All senior students also
helped us and we all want to say WELCOME NEW STUDENTS TO OUR BIG FAMILY!!!
As usual once every two weeks we held tutor’s workshop and this month were Jascha
and Kohars turns. Jascha talked about reading techniques. Kohar discussed teaching styles
and self-assessment quizzes on trustworthiness. Unfortunately this was also Jascha’s last tutor
workshop, sad…….
We met Stefan’s younger sister, Marina. She visited YCM before they went traveling
around the beautiful country of Indonesia together!
Since we have lots of new students we need extra help, so we welcomed a new Tutor,
Mas Dudi, from Confidence class. He is a student and also lives at YCM; recently finished
school he is searching for university scholarship opportunities for next year. To give him some
work experience, he is now teaching the elementary students every afternoon – welcome Dudi!
This month the sewing students started a new activity every Monday, they go to IGTC
(International Garment Training Center) to learn more about design and sewing therefore we
would like to say thank you for this opportunity Gyongyver Nagy!
Miss Jen invited Mba Nizly and her friend Teni to come and give a lesson on Henna
Tattoos. The students learnt how to design and paint on themselves, while learning about a
cultural practice and its meaning. After the lesson they all came out with happy faces and
showed their new creative henna tattoos… jealous!!
We all had fun this month but there was a sad moment too when we had to say goodbye
to Jascha. Saturday 17th was Jascha’s last day here in YCM.. We had big stage where the
students performed their talents and did some shooting for the film community’s project, which
is going to big so look forward for it!
Before Jascha left he’d been working a lesson project about German towns but
unfortunately he couldn’t stay to see the Confidence and Explorer class presentations on
Saturday 24th when Ibu Gesines daughter, Anchalee, and her friend Sairong visited for a few
days. My comment about their hard work is IMPRESSIVE!!!
The next Saturday on 24th we had a visit from Gyi. She’s here with her students from
IGTC to give the regular monthly theory and pattern lessons to the sewing class. They enjoyed
it and can’t wait to get more lessons!
Theme week time!! Due to an unpleasant encounter between Miss Bella and head lice
on a student, we agreed the theme week for this month is about personal hygiene. We had all
week learning about it and hope the students will realize how important to keep their personal
hygiene. At the end of the week the tutors arranged a demonstration on the different personal
hygiene topics, like a mini-salon, and we taught them the right way to clean themselves. Theme
week was a great success!!
MORE GOOD NEWS COMING…..YCM was pleasantly surprised that we came 2nd
place in the German Film Competition, winning 600 Euros for YCM! WOW, isn’t that great news
or what?! Congratulations Kamarfilms Community!!
More Congratulations is dedicated to Amir, from Explorer class, who has been
successful in being selected for an IGTC 1 year training course, in the Marketing Merchandising
Quality Assurance department. Good luck Amir we wish you all the best!
NOW IS THE BIGGEST NEWS OF ALL FOR THIS MONTH…READY????
We are very happy to announce that one of the tutors is going to Australia next year! The
biggest news for the biggest tutor! Kohar was selected as the successful applicant to go to
Australia next year for work experience at St..Johns School in Adelaide! CONGRATULATIONS!
The 4 tutors who applied were all close candidates and it was a difficult decision, but there will
be more opportunities coming up. There is lots to prepare but this is the first step for our journey
in the future!
To end all of this good news on 31st our students competed at the AFL final footy match
at Cibubur! Sadly, we didn’t win the game but we are so happy that our students have
developed so much that they can have this opportunity and reach this far in the competition. But
no time to get sad and sappy, just time to PRACTICE…!
Warmest Regards,

Dear friends and sponsors of YCM!
August was an exciting month, we had lots of events, things to celebrate and we would like to
share it with you!
Starting on 3 August, we had 17 new AYADs (Australian Youth Ambassador for Development)
visit YCM for their orientation activity. We had already prepared things for them, from dramas to
a small Indonesian talent show where they had to perform what they’d learnt about Indonesian
culture. They were divided into groups and our students gave them instructions how to do their
performances. We shared lunch together and enjoyed special drama from Stefan which was so
hilarious! It was about love having no borders. At the end of the day everyone was happy and it
was great to meet the new volunteers!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVERYONE!! This August we had several tutors and volunteers birthdays
to celebrate, starting with Ibu Gesine on August 5th. To celebrate it we especially made a film for
her, watched it together, and also posted it to her. On 16th it was one of our new volunteers
birthday, Phillip. This landed on their first visit to YCM, when we held their orientation activity
here with the other AFS (American Field Service program from Germany) volunteers. On 21st it
was Stefan’s 21st birthday but he already went home to Germany. Then Alex Engel’s (our
former AYAD volunteer from Australia) birthday was on the next day. Ono and Dudi shared their
birthday on August 29th. Congratulations everyone & we wish you all the best in the future!
Ramadhan started on 11 August and all of us were very excited about it. This means that we
are extra patient and kind towards one another in our classes. Another important holiday was on
17 August to celebrate Indonesian Independence Day. We all very happy that Indonesia can
celebrate 65 years of independence. MERDEKA!!
Mrs Odette and three other ladies from one of our donators, Die Brucke, visited YCM and
brought a printer machine and a computer. Thank you so much for the donation, this is very
helpful for us! All donations are gratefully received with warm welcome.
As you probably know, Ms Gyongyver Nagy from IGTC (Industry Garment Training Center)
gives a regular monthly sewing lesson at YCM and they had their last class on Saturday 28th
before our holidays. That’s not all… YCM’s film community, Kamar Films, has been
commissioned to do their first corporate film production for IGTC. Hopefully this is a start for
Kamar Films to begin their professional career, therefore we would like to thank IGTC an Gyi for
all the opportunities they’ve given us.
As one chapter ends another chapter begins…..September 5th was the last day for Stefan at
YCM. Each class gave an oleh oleh that he could take home to Germany. We were very sad but
also had so much fun because we also held ‘YCM’s Got Talent’ activity: a talent competition
where the students showed their talents and creativity in performances, singing and hosting
skills. Another farewell this month was held for James, as he was successful with a job at
CIFOR (Center for International Forestry Research), congratulations! For his farewell we
enjoyed breaking fast together on Saturday 28. This is a generous, communal practice within
the fasting month of eating dinner together after sunset. Thanks to Stefan and James; we’re sad
to let you go but your chapter ends here and we wish you all the best in your futures!
Another new chapter began on Monday 16th when the two new German volunteers arrived–
Fabian Ungerer & Phillip Nowak. They will be with us for 1 year, through a volunteer program
under Yayasan Bina Antar Budaya. Welcome to the YCM team, we look forward to sharing and
learning with you!
And last but not least, we would like to deeply thank all of our supporters, sponsors and friends
– from nearby and far away! We think of you often when we use our resources, and are
constantly reminded of the kindness within people. This is also a good time to say Selamat Idul
Fitri and happy holidays! Mohon Maaf lahir dan bathin. YCM will resume on 20 September.
Peace be with you always!
Warmest Regards,

Dear friends and sponsors of YCM!
September marks the beginning of Spring and Fall seasons in some places, but marks the
beginning of Wet Season here. We are happy to experience the refreshing and soothing rains,
and have to remember our umbrellas every day!
At the beginning of this month, we got a visit from Anika Rudolf. She is a German young woman
studying Asian Studies and Management with focus on South East Asia and learning bahasa
Indonesian. She is also doing work experience as Marketing Assistant at International Garment
Training Centre (IGTC) and would like to share her knowledge here at YCM. She held the
‘Brave’ class with another tutor, Phillip. Thanks Anika.
THE NEW STUDENT COUNCIL IS IN THE HOUSE!!
After 6 months running YCM’s Student Council, our reigning president Ase passed the ‘crown’
to his successor. After a tight voting, Meriana was elected as the new Ms President and a new
team of students (Deki, Darrent, Lia, Ajat) will support her in YCM running tasks. She is the
second female student council president after Nur which means it has been quite a long time
since a lady was in this position. Good luck Meri, its GIRL POWER TIME!!
Due to the Islamic Holy Day celebration to mark the end of the fasting month of Ramadan, Idhul
Fitri, YCM was closed for this annual holiday. Everyone was very excited! This holiday is all
about family, forgiveness, sharing and community spirit.
After returning from a great holiday, we welcomed a new addition to our tutor team who came all
the way from Rote, WELCOME Mark Gossage (Australian Youth Ambassador for Development)
to our YCM family!! He will join us for about 6 months.
Speaking of volunteers…Well I’ve got a little tip for you. The Australian volunteers, Ms. Jen and
Mr. Mark, are up to something. WHAT IS IT?! For full information about their “something” look
forward for next month’s newsletter where I will reveal the secret about what they’ve been up to.
On one beautiful Saturday, Gyi’s IGTC students came to give sewing lesson at YCM; thank you
for your ongoing training every month! Also Mba Atik took some of the sewing class students to
IGTC for their regular Monday training. They’ve been really serious about developing their skills
in sewing and their progress is incredible. They already have the basic skills and now they are
ready to take their creativity to the next level and practice using professional machinery and
learn industry standards.
Later in the month our tutors finally discovered our hidden talents as models! We were
requested for a photo shoot for Austraining with photographer Bapak Rama, and were all posing
in ‘a day in the life of YCM’ situations. Ibu Nani Doodoh (In-Country Manager for AYAD & VIDA
volunteer programs) visited Mark & Jen for their regular evaluations on this day also.
To close this amazing month, we decided to make theme week on ‘Food & History’. We had
great fun together. On Monday Smart class started their début as chefs followed by other
classes, learning while cooking every day. The theme week ended with a food festival event on
Friday, which also ended September.
That’s it for September news! Stay with us for more updates about October activities where
more fun will be found. Big thanks for all of you!
Warmest Regards,

Dear friends and sponsors of YCM!
October has been a busy and fun month! We all a had great time here in YCM even when we
were all wet and cold due to the rainy season, but I got to tell you something; we all look good
under our umbrellas!
Speaking of lessons…..
This month all of the tutors at YCM had 2 special treats during lessons from Nur and Havni.
Nur’s lesson was about team work and Havni’s was about math. We’re not too crazy about math
but Havni did a really good job, she made math easy and fun. CONGRADS Havni and Nur!!
KAMARFILMS COMMUNITY GOES PROFESSIONAL!!!!!!
This October KamarFilms community debuted in the professional world by working on a
commercial video for IGTC. The result is terrific!! It shows how far KamarFilms has developed
their techniques and creativity. We are so proud of you and keep up the great work!!!!
If you love animals here’s some news for you…
The third week of October YCM received several invitations related to animals. First from the
International School of Bogor (ISB) where we performed a short drama with the theme: multi
species. The next invitation came from MEI (Multispecies Education International) which is a
charity registered in the United Kingdom whose objective is to learn how to share the Earth with
other species. There, we were requested to show some of the movies that KamarFilms has
produced. Those were both success stories and great opportunities to make some links.
What’s regular in YCM?
Well… Gyi from IGTC came on the 3rd week of October to give a pattern making class for YCM
sewing class and so far they’re doing great. Thanks Gyi for the lessons!!
So what’s new then??
THE GIRLS FUSTAL COMPETION IS ON!!!! 6 teams are competing and they all want the same
thing; VICTORY!! You can imagine the heat and spirit of 30 girls running to chase one ball.
As usual YCM always has a theme week and this month we decided to make it ‘enthusiasm’. So
give us your best spirit kids because surprises will come to those who are enthusiastic, for more
details about it check out our next newsletter on November.
Special news came on October 26th when YCM was invited to PPIPTEK (Science and
Technology Development Center) at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah to hold AYAD orientation. For
some students it was their first visit there so they were pretty excited about it. 8 AYAD members
and 38 students were integrating well. We did short drama about difference which had a
profound meaning to each of us. To seal the day we all sang a song about togetherness.
Another amazing moment to remember….
On the last Saturday this month Mark (our volunteer from Australia) invited Ms. Kinanti Pinta
Karana to come to YCM. She came with a camera crew to write an article about YCM that will
be published in the Jakarta Globe, a national newspaper. They’ll also run a video story online.
For some people October 31st is one scary day due to the Halloween thing, but not for our lovely
tutor Havni! She got a wedding to do! Yes!! The last news comes from one of our female tutors,
Havni, who left her single life on that day and definitely left the boys crying. Congratulations
Havni!!!!!!! We love you and wish you all the best!!
That’s all the October news full of fun here in YCM, we’ll see you again next month with some
awards, some ‘Aussie ingredients’, some birthdays and LOTS more fun!!
Warmest Regards,

Dear friends and sponsors of YCM!
Just by the time when we thought rain won’t stop here in Bogor, YCM had a great fantastic blast in
November. Full of action, dramas and fun and YESSS we’re going to share it with you!!!!
Alles Gute zum Geburtstag!!! Selamat Ulang Tahun!!! Happy B’Day!!
YCM had a big B’Day celebration for those who were born on this month! Let’s congratulate our 4 lovely
tutors who celebrated their birthdays: Fabian, Putu, Bella and Havni blew out the candles this
November. Great party and congratulations guys!! You’re not a year older but definitely a year better!
Ibu Gesine came and especially held dinner together to celebrate it and also gathered with YCM people
and shared our experiences and dreams. She always cares for the building, maintenance and decoration
of YCM, not to forget gives visits each class and talks to the individual students. Ibu Gesine and the
tutors always have regular meeting at Ibu’s favorite restaurant ‘Warung Taman” to talk about YCM
progress so we all know what to do to improve our beloved house of dreams, YCM.
Now… Are you ready for some Aussie ingredients??? Be prepared because you might love it like we do!!
Before we go any further, we would like to say thank you to our beloved volunteers Mark and Jen. On
Nov 15th the battle started early in the morning with some preparations from Mark and Jen. And then
the rest of the tutors came to the class at 9 A.M sharp wondering what could possibly happened to
them. Then… Surprise!!!
STRATEGIC PLANNING WORKSHOP (1 day) AND TUTOR TRAINING WORKSHOP (3 days) WERE ON!! Due
to this event YCM closed for students so that tutors could focus on their professional development. This
workshop goal is to increase the tutors skills so they can be better tutors and role models. Jen and Mark
had added some new weapons of teaching techniques and ideas to arm us in the class. Watch out
world!!! The tutors of YCM are here to battle ignorance with knowledge!!
More holiday….
This month we also celebrated one festival called Idhul Adha and yes it was a public holiday. What
happened in this festival was all about sharing with others. People who are financially able would share
some of their fortune to buy cattle and share the meat with less able people. The 7 boys who live in YCM
were surely happy about it... It only meant one thing: a BARBEQUE!!
Later this month we also got a special visit from Nic Borgese (VIDA Volunteer) & Welda Purba from
OnTrackMediaIndonesia. This organization is a non-for-profit foundation that specializes in public
awareness campaigns and media consultancy. They were here to introduce their programs and
brought some movies to participate in our film week theme. Thanks Nic & Welda! We hope to
see you again for another program.
IS THAT ALL FOR NOVEMBER?? NOOOOO… WE HAVE MORE!
Recently, YCM got another opportunity to go international through sport. YCM was invited to join the
AFL (Aussie rules tournament) in Cibubur, Jakarta, and we sent out our best sportsmen (Ono and the
boys) to go there. We won the match and they told us that we have big chance to participate for the AFL
Indonesian national team try outs and compete in international tournament abroad next year. Wish you
all the best guys!
MORE THANK YOU’s TO SAY!!!
We would also like to say thank you to Gyi’s students from IGTC who came for the regular pattern
making class on Saturday with sewing class of YCM. We will resume this in January together.
And a big thanks to Ibu Gesine’s friend, brother and his wife, Mrs Renate Hudoffsky, Mr Henning & Mrs
Ute Harte and for their generous donations. We bought two new guitars so our many musicians can
practice their skills better because they don’t have to wait for their turn to use the guitars. Now they all
can practice together! To share our gratitude for this amazing donation, please check out our link at
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbXfIdXPHXM This video was made by our very own KamarFilms
Production. Thank you Mr Henning, Mrs Ute and Mrs Renate! Danke schoon!!
We also received donations like clothes and fabric and books this month, which kept our sewing classes
very busy.
As always we receive your support and donations with gratitude and smiling faces! We acknowledge all
the connections and friendships we have all over the world!
Thank you for reading our newsletter and please stay tuned for next month newsletter where we have
‘all-out feeding frenzy’ bazaar, wet Christmas and more joy to share!
Warmest Regards,

Dear friends and sponsors of YCM!
December has been a month of sharing, affection and contemplation for everyone in YCM.
Nevertheless, we perpetually keep up the good work and spirit to meet our expectations as the best
place on earth to gain more knowledge.
Lets start with classes…
The 1st of December also celebrated as World AIDS Day. Many of our great tutors used this subject to
introduce sex education to their classes. It’s very shocking that most of our students are very not well
informed about reproductive system, sex and its possible consequences, therefore it’s very important to
empower them with such knowledge to keep them well informed yet safe. Ibu Gesine also visited
classes and discussed this subject too.
Ibu Gesine was here with her son Felix and while she’s here, she always monitors the maintenance of
YCM and holds regular meetings with all the tutors for the sake of YCM’s improvement.
We would like to say CONGRATULATIONS to 5 of YCM alumni who graduated from IGTC on Dec 11th.
They are Rizky Marliansyah (Ebo), Mulyadi (Oya), Cahyo, Jaji and Iqbal. Ibu Gesine and Ibu Putu went to
their graduation event at IGTC, as they were invited to witness one of their ex-students’ happiest
moments. Once again, CONGRATULATIONS on achieving your goals!!!!
IT’S THE GUESTS TIME!
During this lovely month we had several people who came to visit YCM. First, we had Elena & Alif, they
are Mark Gossage’s (YCM Australian volunteer) friends from USA. They work voluntarily for schools in
Indonesia. Next we had Mark Reedy (Australian) and Mario Mauz (German). Mark is an adventurer who
travels around the world with minimum cost. Last but not least we got a visit from Tim Sippala
(Finlandian) and Gus Maiden (Australian).
The students of YCM were very happy to have guests from many different countries. The guests fed
their curiosity about the world, supplied them new information, broadened their view and also gave
them practice for their speaking and interviewing skills. THANK YOU FOR COMING GUESTS!!!
Have you ever seen ladies lining up at shopping sales or acting a bit vicious to buy their purchase??
Well... Come to YCM bazaar and we guarantee you’ll see it! On Dec 4th YCM held a grand bazaar in our
basketball court. As you know when it comes to shopping... ladies fasten your seatbelt!! We sold few
things produced by the sewing class of YCM and some other stuffs. And they were sold out before
lunch!! It was a great success for YCM, thanks to all the tutors and student council who had supported
and organized this event. Great job guys!!
To begin the New Year of 2011, YCM is preparing to add more technology into our daily life. To
accomplish this mission, our techno guys, Kohar and Fila, went to Jakarta to buy new computer server
with the money donated by VIDA (Volunteering for International Development Australia). What will it do
for us?? Apparently it will help us to control our computer network, data and file management system.
This will definitely make everything much easier for all tutors, students and future development of YCM.
Hmmm... Can’t wait for it.
Still in Jakarta news, later this month Putu and Kohar were invited to a BCA (Bank Central Asia) Finance
end of year gathering. They were there to honor the generous donation of computers BCA finance made
to our beloved YCM. As always, we receive all supports with big wide smiles and pure gratitude.
Until now we have received many supports in all forms, including recently Muria Roberts from MEI
(Multispecies Education International) had given us her priceless time to come and give a lesson about
the importance of human behavior towards our environment and animals. She didn’t stop there… she
also took several of our students on a day field trip to see the exhibition ‘At America’ in Pacific Place
Mall, Jakarta. It was a brand new experience for the students since it was their first time visiting such
luxurious mall. They shared that they learned lots of things there and the most important they all came
back with big happy smiles and new knowledge. Thank you Muria!
That’s all for December, lets close this month with happiness and joy and we’ll see you again in January
with more fun, “the comebacks”, and new stuff in YCM. Till then... we wish you all a HAPPY NEW
YEAR!!!!
Warmest Regards,
