HELLO!
Hello and welcome to the second edition of On Target. Thanks to your generosity and enthusiasm, 2010
has been a busy year for The Joanna Brown Trust. We are very grateful to all those who ran, cycled,
climbed, zumba-ed (if that's a word), to their supporters and everyone who attended any of our various
fundraising events throughout the year. As a close friend of Jo's, I know how happy and proud she would
be to know that so much sporting endeavour (and fun) is being carried on in her name.
We aim to support as broad a range of sporting talent as possible. To all the athletes who have received
funding through our partnerships with Sport Islington, Sports Aid, Malvern Hills District Council and the
England Cricket Board so far, we wish them continued success for next year and beyond.
Having travelled extensively with Jo, it makes me personally very proud to see the JB Trust contributing to
community sport projects in developing countries. We look forward to the opening of the Joanna Brown
dormitory at the Magic Bus outdoor activities centre in Mumbai and hope that our donation to the
Phelisanong project in Lesotho continues to assist that community in its remarkable AIDS outreach program.
Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a peaceful and happy 2011.

OUR SPORTING STARS
Over the past year The JB Trust has been
delighted to be able to support some exceptional young athletes. With our support
we hope they can continue to improve and
excel in their respective sports.
Aasha Kimpton, an 11 year old gymnast
from Hackney, London, was the first recipient of our £2,000 award in partnership
with Sport Islington, The Joanna Brown
Trust award for sporting excellence. Aasha
has now been selected for the GB Start
Squad. The Trust has decided to continue
its support of Aasha with a second award
of £1,000 for 2011.
George Durden has been awarded the
2010 Joanna Brown Trust award for sporting excellence (£2,000). George is a 17
year old kayaker from Islington and is

ranked in the top 10 for his age group in
the county.

James Gibson, a 20 year old swimmer
from Manchester, received £500 through
our partnership with Sports Aid. James is
aiming to make the Team GB Squad for
2012.

4 young athletes from Malvern, CallieAnn Haliday, 16 years old (Canoe Slalom), Hannah Beasley-Suffolk, 17 years
old (Archery), Joshua Brooks, 13 years
old (Mountain Biking) and Emily Lewis,
17 years old (Kayaker) have each been
awarded £500. The awards are being
funded jointly by The JB Trust and Malvern
Hills District Council. All 4 recipients will
receive their awards at the Malvern Hills
District Council Sports Awards on Thursday
16th December at Malvern Sports College.
NETBALL KIT TO LESOTHO, AFRICA
 To Ed Reed, who will be
the first person to run the The JB Trust donated netball kit
London Marathon for The a n d e q u i p m e n t f o r a
JB Trust in April 2011.
 To Bruce & Kiwi who are
running the Edinburgh
Marathon in May. To sponsor either Ed, Bruce or
Kiwi visit...
Beth Cobden, a netballer from Stafford,
also received £500 from The JB Trust via
our Sports Aid partnership. Beth was selected to play for the England U19‟s at the
European Championships in March 2010.

Phelisanong,
a remarkable community based
organisation founded in 2000
by a group of disabled and HIV
positive villagers, organised a
netball and football tournament
(with assistance from a group
of fundraisers from Sky, including Soccer AM's Max Rush-
den) to raise awareness for its
AIDS outreach program.

The JB Trust donated 8 sets of
netball bibs and skirts and 24
netballs, which were used by
the local girls in the tournament
and will be kept in the
Phelisanong community centre
for future use. The tournament
was a great success and was
attended by over 4,000 locals.

BARNARD’S GREEN CC
Earlier this year, the JB Trust donated £9,000 to Barnard's Green Cricket Club in Malvern for the construction of its new cricket net facility. The England Cricket
Board also contributed to the project. The club chairman, Andy Lamb, expressed his thanks to the Trust:

on top class reliable surfaces can only enhance confidence in both young and established cricketers.

net facility at our main ground at North End Lane has

getting this project to completion. The Joanna Brown

enduring legacy that this project will play in maintaining participation in sport for young people locally.”

PROJECT INDIA UPDATE
The JB Trust has donated £25,000 to
Magic Bus, an Indian charity
which uses sport and the outdoors as
a medium to help underprivileged
children discover their true potential.
Our donation is being used to fund
the construction of a new dormitory at
the Magic Bus Centre for Learning and
Development outside Mumbai. After a
slight delay and the long monsoon
season, the construction is finally
underway and is expected to be completed in April or May 2011.

Barnard’s Green Cricket Club Nets
Meanwhile, life at the Magic Bus Centre has been very busy, with hundreds
of at-risk and marginalised children regularly taking part in camps at
the Centre and going on daytrips to
the surrounding hills. The Centre held
its first Outdoor Championship in
August, where teams from 4 local
schools and 1 NGO participated. For
