Cover letter Purpose: • • • • Convince the reader to look at your resume Call attention to the most important elements of your background Reflect your attitude Provide or refer to any information specifically requested Check: • Well laid out and structured • Correct grammar and spelling 2. Resume Purpose: • The CV reflects you, from its presentation to its content • Allows the recruiter to see at a glance how you can contribute to a company Check: • • • • Ensure that any periods between roles are fully explained If you cannot produce a professional document about yourself, an employer may conclude that you are unlikely to have the competencies to fit an important job Highlight achievements to demonstrate your successes Do not make false or exaggerated claims. Interview Purpose: • • • • Gather information on position and employer Evaluate position, job-setting, co-workers Determine if position is suitable – “Do I want to work here?” Communicate information about yourself – convince employer to hire you because you are qualified for the job Progress: • Presentation: first impressions are important and the interviewer will expect to see you in professional attire for the meeting • Punctuality: ensure that you are well prepared for finding the right directions.
