Cyclone Initialisation Error - Error in Cyclone Startup: How to change port 6001 for Cyclone Description: Cyclone will not start with error message: "Error in Cyclone Startup. Database server is not available. Run CycloneReg.bat" Cyclone by default is using port 6001. The below describes how to change this for Cyclone if another program already uses this port. Version: All Cyclone versions Solution: Preparation Stop Cyclone, the Leica HDS server, and the Cyclone License Server Make sure the Leica HDS Server and Cyclone License Server are not running in the Computer Management. Figure 1 Localisation of Configuration Files "ptserver.cfg" and "ptclient.cfg" Look on your hard drive for all instances of the following two files: "ptserver.cfg" and "ptclient.cfg" Commonly in the Cyclone installation Folder under C:\Programm files\Leica Geosystems\Cyclone "ptclient.cfg" and additionally in your user configuration directory under Application Data\Leica Geosystems\Cyclone Change Ports in Configuration Files In "ptserver.cfg" the second line reads "service=6001" Change the 6001 to a free port (check with netstat). © Leica Geosystems | Jan 20 2010 5:15PM In "ptclient.cfg" add to the 3rd line "service=####" (port chosen before, e.g. 2222) Please note that Leica HDS server uses two port numbers, the one xxxx (default = 6001) and xxxx+1. Restart Processes Restart the Leica HDS Server and the Cyclone License Server in Services and startup Cyclone again. Check new ports in DOS shell with "netstat" command in a DOS box. Please Consider: (1) You have to make sure that both ptserver.cfg (in Cyclone installation directory) and ptclient.cfg (the useful one is in your user configuration directory under Application Data\Leica Geosystems\Cyclone) use the same port number (i.e. absence is not allowed if you do not use the default port 6001). Otherwise Cyclone will fail to start up. (2) Re-installing (or when you think you do a clean install by deleting the cyclone directory) will not affect the files in user configuration directory. If you change the port number, you have to take care of the ptclient.cfg in that directory (per user). (3) Bear in mind that the port number is used for database sharing through Leica HDS Server service. If two computers in a team use different port number, they will not be able to share. So changing port number is an administrator/team decision if sharing is needed. (4) RegCyclone.bat will effectively reset port number for the server, but will not affect a client configuration. This breaks Cyclone if the client uses a different port number. Same for re-installing of Cyclone. © Leica Geosystems | Jan 20 2010 5:15PM
