What is the CUSP4MVP-VAP Social Network (MedConcert)
The CUSP4MVP-VAP National Project Team (NPT) believes that you will learn from other hospitals participating in the
CUSP4MVP-VAP project. The CUSP4MVP-VAP Social Network in MedConcert is your outlet for real-time collaboration
with experts and other hospitals and units that are participating in the project from around the country. It is also your
direct link to the CUSP4MVP-VAP NPT (Johns Hopkins Medicine Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality,
Michigan Health and Hospital Association Keystone Center, and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute). Much like
Facebook, MedConcert operates by allowing members to post questions and comments, share protocols, and access
documents with ease.
Benefits

It is a secure social networking site where CUSP4MVP-VAP teams can learn from and pool resources with
other hospitals in the collaborative.
It can be used to post questions directly to experts on the NPT.
You can receive real-time feedback to questions from the NPT.
You can receive real-time feedback to questions from other teams/units/hospitals in the collaborative.
It can be used to share strategies and successes.
It can be used to share barriers/hurdles and ask for solutions/suggestions.
It can be used to find protocols that other units are using, or to share the protocols that you are using.
How to Join the CUSP 4 MVP-VAP Group on MedConcert
If you are a new MedConcert user, then you probably fall into one of the following categories:
A. You have access to the data portal but do nothave access to MedConcert.
B. You do not have access to either the data portal or MedConcert.
A. If you have access to the data portal but do not have access to MedConcert, then you must complete
the following steps.
1. Visit the CUSP 4 MVP-VAP Online Portal URL: https://armstrongresearch.hopkinsmedicine.org/cusp4mvp.aspx
2. Log into the portal using your user name and password that you received from the NPT.

3. After you have logged in, you will land onto the homepage. Scroll to the bottom of the page and locate the
section of the homepage that reads “Collaborate through Social Networks.” Click on the pink icon labeled
“Cohort 1: All Participants.”
4. The page will direct you to MedConcert. Since you are a new MedConcert user, you will need to create a new
MedConcert account. To create your new account, click on the “Sign Up” button.
5. Next, you will be directed to a page that says “Welcome to the Performance Improvement Revolution!” Click
on the “Locate Me” button.

6. Since you have not yet registered for MedConcert, you will not find your name on the webpage that pops up.
You will see a message that reads, “Don’t see your name?” above a link that says “Please click here to create
your account.” Click on that link!
7. The link will take you to a screen that prompts you to “Complete your profile information.” Enter some basic
information, and create a password for your CUSP4MVP-VAP Social Network Account.

8. After following the steps above, you should now be a member of MedConcert and the CUSP 4 MVP-VAP
Cohort 1 group. You should also see the page below.
B. If you fall into category ‘A’ above and don’t have access to either the data portal or MedConcert, then
you must complete the following steps.
1. You must first have access to the data portal to gain access to MedConcert. If you do not have access to
either, then email [email protected] and request access to both the data portal and MedConcert.

2. An administrator will reply to your email, and you will receive a user name and password to help set up your
account.
3. After you receive a user name and password, follow the steps that are outlined in Section “A” of this
instruction manual.
4. You should now be a member of both MedConcert and the CUSP 4 MVP-VAP Cohort 1 group.
What Can I do Once I Sign Up to Use MedConcert?

There are a number of social networks or groups that you can join in MedConcert.
1. CUSP4MVP-VAP Cohort 1, All Participants – All CUSP4MVP team members and frontline staff can join
the CUSP4MVP Social Network.
2. CUSP4MVP-VAP Infection Preventionists (IPs) – All IPs are encouraged to join this group.
3. ICU Recovery Network (IRN) – The IRN group, as stated on the IRN group’s About Us section, “is an
international ‘virtual community’ of clinicians and researchers interested in improving the recovery of
critically ill patients, with a focus on early interventions and rehabilitation in the intensive care unit
(ICU) and across the continuum of care after ICU discharge.” The group is led by Dr. Dale Needham.
 Within the IRN group is a subgroup called IRNCUSPVAP. The subgroup offers CUSP4MVP-VAP
participants an opportunity to collaborate with Dr. Needham’s group about early
mobility/early interventions and rehabilitation

If you would like to join any of these groups, you can do one of the following:
1. Contact [email protected] and request access to this group. The administrator will check if you are
already registered for MedConcert. If you are, you will receive an email from the administrator about
joining the MedConcert group. Follow the instructions from the email to join the group!
Or
2. Search for the network name at the top of your screen.
And then click on Send Request for the network that you would like to join.

Once you are connected to the social network, you can post on the message board by clicking on the
“Add Post” button on the homepage, entering your message and clicking on the submit button.
