TIGHT SCHEDULE FOR
Norwegian/Swedish technology company Goodtech has a history extending more than 100 years.
Of the more than 1,500 employees in Sweden and Norway, 100 employees are based at the diminutive coastal town of Örnsköldsvik in northern Sweden. Challenges present themselves thick and fast
here and Elpress News has its finger on the pulse.
T
he Örnsköldsvik branch is the
largest single unit at Goodtech,
a technology company with core
expertise in electrical, automation as well
as power and industrial engineering.
“We work on everything from fiber optics to 400 kV,” says Unit Manager Patrik
Andersson.
“The fact that we have so many people
here in Örnsköldsvik is partly due to our
extensive range of skills, and that we
traditionally like to travel. This means
that we can send our in-demand fitters
on the most varied of assignments, and
that we cover a large geographical area
between Stockholm and Kiruna,” Patrik
continues.
We do everything
from fiber optics
to 400 kV
Thanks to experienced project management, Goodtech can handle complex projects, often performed under time pressure.
“The cooperation with our customers
is based on a long-term approach, partnerships and mutual trust. We stand for
quality and commitment in everything
we do. Consequently, we choose our
partners with the same concept of qualPAGE 2
ity and this is where Elpress comes in. We
have opted to work exclusively with Elpress certified solutions using the combination of cable, terminals and tools. We
are also assisted by Elpress in terms of
service and training. As Elpress products
are established in the market and are always available, this makes life incredibly
easy for us,” says Patrik Andersson.
Over the years Goodtech has developed a quality management system
where all inventory have been entered,
and as soon as a tool needs servicing, the
system sends an audio message.
“The majority of the tools can usually handle a period of one year between
maintenance work, but of course, we

material in stock.

send them in between if the need arises,” says Patrik.
The company's extensive customer
base consists of everything from individuals to pulp mills and mining enterprises.
Goodtech was recently entrusted with
the responsibility for a comprehensive
electrical and instrumentation installation at Metsä Board’s Husum factory:
thirty kilometers north of Örnsköldsvik.
The task is to ensure the replacement of
a fine paper machine to a board machine.
“In practice, it crimps at a range of
24V/0.5mm2 up to 12kV/240 mm2 in
both copper and aluminum. It is an exciting challenge among many others that
we have to face this autumn,” says Patrik
and talks about another of Goodtech's
important and key accounts, namely BAE
Systems.
“As with Metsä Board and Mondi, we
have an ongoing maintenance contract
with BAE-Systems.
Working recently as a turnkey contractor, we have installed and deployed Sweden's largest solar power plant on walls.
There are solar plants where the surface
is larger than this, but these are not
mounted on the facade,” Patrik explains.
He sounds genuinely expectant when
he talks about the projects the Övik
branch has ahead of them over the coming months.
“The best thing about this job is the

challenges we face. I'm particularly fond
of the work to find innovative technical
solutions and the possibility of getting
involved and producing green electricity. It is also enjoyable attending all the
meetings, with both large and small customers and suppliers,” he says.
Among Goodtech's small customers
are ordinary citizens, as insurance claims
related to water damage or house fires
are often involved, but also include ordinary electrical installations in residential
buildings.
“In recent years, grocery shops and
homes for the elderly have come to represent a major part of our medium-sized
customer base,” says Patrik Andersson.

PRODUCT
NEWS
JORDARNA CHOOSES
Elpress is launching a new product for earthing – Earthbond – which is being tested by Jordarna in Växjö AB
for a number of weeks.
“We will certainly continue to use Earthbond in the future,” says Jörgen Eriksson at Jordarna.
A
long the railway, paths have
been formed in some places
where pedestrians can cross the
rails illegally. Fencing is being erected at
this type of site to avoid future accidents.
These fences must be erected jointly
with the railway's power supply and this
is a typical job for Jordarna in Växjö AB.
When we asked them to test our new
Earthbond product, they were immediately hooked.
“The huge advantage Earthbond gives
is that we do not need to drill holes
through the poles when we earth as it is
enough to simply drill holes through one
side of the post. In terms of time saved, I
don’t know if it makes much difference,
but with Earthbond we get a better contact with the post which improves conductivity. In practice this means that the
earth connection is more secure from a
qualitative aspect, and there is less transition resistance between the pole and
connection,” Jörgen Eriksson states.
He stresses that System Earthbond
It is extremely easy
to use and also
provides a more
secure connection
makes the actual work easier at place.
“The traditional way has sometimes
been difficult in terms of gaining access
to drill through holes in the post, there
could be a wall behind or something else
could be blocking the way. Earthbond
gives us three sides to choose from instead of two, and the work is made more
flexible,” says Jörgen.
The long and short step drills help to
ensure that the drill hole has both a finer
and rounder finish which makes the connection more secure when compared to
traditional core drills.
Earthbond has an unique mark that can
be traced back through the production
process, but this has been of secondary
importance to Jordarna in Växjö AB.
“My end customers do not require any
kind of traceability, however, I can imagine that it is important in other contexts,
especially at earth connections to structures other than the railway, for example
in train manufacturing, offshore and industry segments.”
To ensure an efficient process, Earthbond comes in a pack with the associated nuts and washers, along with user
instructions. The versatile bag for installation tools has space for a number of
Earthbond units and nuts and washers
so the fitter can easily keep track of all
the work.
A couple of weeks into the trial period,
Jörgen Eriksson has seen enough to be
convinced that they will continue along
this path.
“We will certainly be continuing with
System Earthbond, as it is very easy to
use and provides a more secure connection,” he says.
2
This is how it works:
Structures made of steel and aluminum connected with Earthbond are
often painted or given a protective alloying and/or an oxide coating that
reduces the electrical contact.
Elpress Earthbond also creates the electrical contact in the structure’s cross
section to achieve good electrical conductivity.

TRAINEE
BACK OFFICE SALES
A year ago, you saw an ad that Elpress was looking for a trainee to
add to its sales organization, why
did you apply?
“In my position at the time, it was
most probably a long shot as I had
never heard of Elpress but I had
completed my studies and needed some practical experience.
It dawned on me that this was a
real stroke of luck, and although I
still experience daily insights, I feel
proud of the products we have put
on the market. Not everyone in the
industry has the same high quality
approach as Elpress.”

What do you tell your friends that
you do all day?
“If I am perfectly honest, I do not
think my friends really understand
what a cable clip is or what it is I
do here. But they know that I love
my job. Elpress has surpassed all
my expectations in terms of both
professional pride, as we are all
constantly doing our utmost to
meet customer expectations, and
also in terms of all the solicitude
we have for each other here in
the office. We really watch each
other’s backs.”
You have one more year left of your
trainee period, where do you go
from here?
“If it was up to me to decide, I would
obviously like to remain at Elpress.
As I have said this is a marvelous
place to work, and I walk around
with a constant smile on my face
and no two days are ever the same.
I still have so much to learn and so
many people to meet and get to
know as I have so far only talked on
the phone with them I must go and
visit Kramfors!”
