Introduction
This Technical Demo How To Guide (TDH) provides configuration and scripts that describe how to demonstrate HP
AllianceONE within an HP FlexBranch demo environment using an HP 5406zl switch. This demonstration how-toguide includes HP Survivable Branch Module, HP Advanced Services zl Module with VMware vSphere, HP Advanced
Services zl Module with Citrix XenServer, HP 4110 IP Phones and HP 4120 IP Phones with Microsoft Lync™ and
Polycom video collaborative products.
The intended audience is for staff configuring and giving the demonstration including HP Networking marketing,
HP Solution Architects, HP Technical Consultants, or partner pre-sales technical staff.
Objectives
The objective of this demonstration is to tell the demo audience that by partnering with these AllianceONE
vendors, it provides best-of-breed products and solutions for our customers. In this demonstration, tell the
audience about how the HP FlexBranch portfolio aligns with our AllianceONE partners including Microsoft
Exchange/Lync, Polycom video collaborative solutions, as well as VMware, Microsoft and Citrix virtualization
solutions – all using the HP 5406zl PoE+ switch.








The HP5406zl PoE+ switch is used to host the AllianceONE partner solutions
AllianceONE partners included in the demo:
o Microsoft, Polycom, VMware and Citrix
A Microsoft environment is running in virtual machines on an HP Advanced Services zl Module with
VMware vSphere, including domain controller (Active Directory, DNS, NTP, DHCP), Exchange, and Lync
o The Microsoft domain controller provides DHCP for demo HQ and demo branch networks
o The Microsoft unified communications applications (Exchange and Lync) are running in a demoonly mode – this is not a product nor is it intended to be)
A Citrix XenServer zl module is installed on the HP 5406zl switch – nothing running on it for this demo
A Polycom CX7000, which is an HD-capable conference room video camera and Lync-compatible, is
connected as a demo HQ Lync user
An HP Survivable Branch Module for Microsoft Lync provides Lync connectivity for branch users and
UC&C survivability when WAN connectivity is lost
HP 4110 IP Phones provide differentiated features and excellent sound quality
HP 4120 IP Phones build on HP 4110 and provide enhanced integration between phone and Outlook

Configuration
To facilitate efficient, consistent, and comprehensive demonstrations of HP FlexBranch technologies, products,
and solutions for HP Networking personnel and HP Networking partners; a demonstration environment
specifically for HP FlexBranch is used. The HP FlexBranch demonstration environment provides a common core
configuration that enables many different examples of HP FlexBranch connectivity and functionality. Refer to the
“HP FlexBranch Demo Getting Started” Technical Configuration Guide to learn about the overall HP FlexBranch
Demonstration environment.
The configuration for this demonstration is based on the “HP FlexBranch Configure Demo HQ Standalone
5406zl” Technical Configuration Guide, where the HP 5406zl Series switch and HP Services zl modules are used to
host different HP and AllianceONE partner products and solutions.
For this demonstration, Microsoft domain controller, Exchange, and Lync run in virtual machines on the HP
Advanced Services zl Module with VMware vSphere. The “HP FlexBranch Configure Demo HQ Server
Preparation“ Technical Configuration Guide describes how the VMware zl module is configured.
In addition, the Getting Started guide referred to above points to the set of HP FlexBranch Demo HQ Microsoft
Technical Configuration Guides which describe in detail how the Microsoft virtual machines are built and
configured. The HP 5406zl Series switch is configured to provide both Demo HQ and Demo Branch networks, by
dividing up ports on the 24-port 10/100/1000 PoE+ zl module on the HP 5406zl Series switch, as shown in the
diagram below. The HP MSR30-11E router is connected to the Demo HQ network.
