+ LENT + HOLY WEEK + THE RESURRECTION OF OUR LORD
!
Dear brother and sisters in Christ,
!
Lent begins on Ash Wednesday – March 5, 2014. The six weeks of Lent prepares Christians for
Holy Week as we Pray, Listen to The Word, Receiving Holy Communion, and much more, in
preparation for the most important celebration of all The Resurrection of our Lord – April 20, 2014.
!
Ash Wednesday worship time here at First Lutheran Church, for Imposition Ashes and a full
Liturgy of Word and Sacrament begins at 7:00 pm. We will hear the call, Return to the Lord,
you God, who is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love. (Joel
2:13) This time for a “return to the Lord” is vital for our spiritual journey through Lent to
Easter Day.
!
With a “return” in mind I will be offering Talks entitled:
AWAKENING TO THE PRESENCE OF THE SPIRIT.
At each of the six Saturday Breakfasts I will be teaching you a way of prayer which can help
each one of us return to the Lord through a study which includes:
1. Recognizing The Holy Spirit
2. Moving in The Spirit
3. Seeking God’s Will
4. Making Decisions
5. Directed by The Spirit
6. Freedom in The Spirit.
!
Each of us in Lent is invited to continue asking our Lord to help us remain on the solid
foundation which Christ. Lent is a time the Church has during the past 2,000 years, continued to
call us to greater depth of experience as disciples. So, I invite you this Lent to consider ways
and means for you to consciously “Return to the Lord your God” with all that you have and are,
especially your Heart.
!
Come to our Saturday Morning Breakfasts at 9:00 am, as well as our
Saturday Worship at 5:30 pm, and Sunday Worship which begins at 10:00 am.
!
I am filled with anticipatory hope, considering our entire Lent with our Lord Jesus.
We can’t even imagine all He will do for and with us this Lent.

Christ’s Peace and Love be with you,
Pastor Folmar
We hope you are enjoying the Hymn Stories we are publishing each month. If you have a
favorite hymn that we have not used in the service or published here please let us know and we
will do our best to find the story as well as incorporate it into a future service.
The following hymns will be sung by the choir during February. The first is a different
arrangement from the one in our hymnal but you will recognize it and we hope you will find it
meaningful to you in your devotional life.

Love Feast
Our Church participated in the Love Feast at Simpson-Temple parish. We had a great time of
fellowship and outreach serving food to 81 people from the community.
Thanks from the Circle of Hope to all the 23 workers who came to help, those who donated
applesauce and sauerkraut. A special thank you to Gary Thomas for designing our placemat that
was used at each place setting.
Easter Remembrance Baskets
Remembrance Easter Baskets and a potted Easter flower will be ready on Palm Sunday, April 13, to
distribute to our members and friends who are sick, shut-in or in nursing homes.
They will be labeled with the recipients' names and addresses for easy delivery by volunteers from
our congregation. In the meantime, we will be collecting new baskets and basket stuffers and then
after the last Lenten breakfast on Saturday, April 12, we will meet to prepare the baskets for
Sunday's delivery. Sign up sheets for donations will be on the table in the narthex. We need
volunteers to purchase stuffers, help fill the baskets and then help deliver them, so please help!

Tender Love for Children (TLC) is a safe and secure
haven that offers childcare and school programs for little
ones aged six weeks through six years. We provide a
loving, happy environment in which each child is able to
develop his or her intellectual, emotional, social and
physical growth. TLC children flourish with our high
ratio of staff to child, certified teachers and our
supportive efforts on behalf of each and every child in
our care. Daily at First Lutheran from 6:30 am until 5:30
