What's Up Willowville? March 2015 Willowville Elementary School 4529 Schoolhouse Road * Batavia, OH 45103 513-943-6800 513-752-9181 fax Dear Willowville Parents and Students, Winter has smacked us in the face the last couple of weeks. Hopefully, spring is right around the corner! I cannot thank you enough for supporting our community service project in February for the American Heart Association and the Katie Haumesser Fund through our Penny Wars. All donations collected for our Penny Wars will be equally divided for each fund. Our grand total collected was $1,872.85, plus a few more donations that have come in and will be added to that total. Thank you to our cultural arts team, Mrs. Shebetka, Mr. Endres, and Mr. Conklin, for their collaborative efforts in organizing our Jump for Heart activities and Ms. Ransom for her assistance with the kindergarten activities. Kindergarten registration for the 2015 – 2016 school year is underway. Please remind your friends and neighbors of West Clermont to call 943 – 5042 now to schedule an appointment. Willowville students will register the week of March 9 th. It is crucial to register early due to allocation of staff and class size. Our “Blast into Kindergarten” for our new students and their families will be May 15th at noon in the Media Center. It is encouraging to see how our community is supportive of our schools. We want to continue providing educational opportunities for our students which directly impacts our State Report Card. Many families move into our community based on the results of this report. Much of this reporting comes from the testing that will occur over the next couple of months. Components of the report card include the following: K-3 Literacy which using our DIBELS assessment measures if students are learning to read; Gap Closing which uses the state tests to indicate if students are succeeding regardless of income, race, ethnicity or disability; Progress which uses the state tests to measure how much students learn in a year or their academic growth; and Achievement which uses the state tests to determine how well students perform and how many passed. The state test has changed to PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) and will be completed online for grades 4 and 5 in Reading and grades 3 – 5 in math. Additionally, 4th grade students will take the AIR social studies test and 5 th grade students will take the AIR science test. The students have worked all year learning the curriculum and practicing with the online tools. The tests are divided into units and are similar in length to the weekly Reading Street tests or their unit tests. I am confident our students will perform to the best of their ability. Please continue to encourage your child to stay attentive, complete all assignments and study so they can do their best! Please email your child’s teacher if you have questions. Lastly, please continue to stay informed by signing up for the e-Communication on our website. We use this to communicate the weekly All Call and other important news or events that occur. Additionally, please check out the website. Mrs. Prewitt does an excellent job posting information, events and pictures! Thank you again for your ongoing support. Sincerely, Michelle Kennedy Michelle Kennedy, Principal SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR! BUY ONE GET ONE FREE April 13-17, 2015. Watch for schedule to show when each class is attending.
