By Pastor Ken Studer If you are like me, you are constantly getting messages from your computer that you need to update a program that seems to be working just fine. Updating has become a way of life for computer users. Often after updating a program, the update doesn’t take place until you shut down your computer and restart it. Sometimes updates don’t improve how your software program functions but often just improves your security against hackers. What if I could update myself, what changes would I make? Would an updated Ken be smarter, wealthier and better looking? Sadly, those are the things that I would probably update first. What would it be like if God decided to update human beings. What would an updated Ken look like? Would he be kinder, more loving and more compassionate? If God did decide to update me, how would God do it? I think God would do it through trials and tribulations. Occasionally the updates make your computer run slower or makes other changes that you really don’t want. For example, Microsoft wants everyone to update their Windows 7 operating system to Windows 10. But many experts have concluded that Windows 7 is actually better. The purpose of these troubles is to test your faith as fire tests how genuine gold is. Your faith is more precious than gold. 1 Peter 1:7 GWT I’ve learned the hard way that sometimes you can get a message that your computer needs updating but it is not an authentic message. If you click on it you have just downloaded a virus on to your computer. Sometimes your life may seem like it has been infected with a virus. Nothing works like it should. But the Good News is that God is just updating you. See Romans 8:28. OCC Happenings Discussion Series @ 10 AM in the Sanctuary Village Church—Irvine MARCH SCHEDULE: In March we continue our series with Ray Vander Laan on God's plan to seek out His true followers. This month we consider the mission given to the Israelites at Mt. Sinai and the mission of Jesus who came to Earth to seek and save the lost. In each lesson, Vander Laan illuminates the historical, geographical, and cultural context of the sacred Scriptures. Filmed on location in Israel and Egypt, the video series will increase your understanding of God and challenge you to be a true follower of Jesus Christ. March YOUTH EVENTS Teens Change Outlooks A recent Barna survey of over 3,000 teens has revealed that in the last 5 years, teens have changed their view of the world. Teenagers are now more likely to state that they are satisfied with their lives, look forward to a challenging future, feel intelligent and attractive, and can optimistically face tomorrow because they trust most other people. A majority of teenagers have given up on the anxieties related to abandonment; teens typically feel relatively secure about their lives and their future. Of course, there are still millions of teens who feel insecure and are depressed. But there has been a major shift in teens’ outlooks. Recycling The youth & young adults are collecting aluminum cans, glass and plastic bottles for recycling. Items must have California CRV. This is a fundraising project. Please bring recyclables to the church or office on Saturdays. Youth Meeting Will Not Meet This Month Sat, March 19, 6 PM Youth Game Night Bring your favorite card, board, dice, or domino game.
