How to visit IP Camera via RTSP
1. What is RTSP?
The Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) is a network control protocol designed for use in
entertainment and communications systems to control streaming media servers. The protocol is used for
establishing and controlling media sessions between end points. Clients of media servers issue VCR-like
commands, such as play and pause, to facilitate real-time control of playback of media files from the
server.
2. How to visit IP Camera via RTSP
2.1 Use the media player which support playing RTSP stream to visit camera, such as
“VLC Media Player” : http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
2.2 QiHan IP Camera RTSP URL
rtsp://<ip>:<port>/<protocol>_live/ch<channel>_<type>
e.g. rtsp://192.168.1.100:554/tcp_live/ch0_0
<IP> : Cameras IP address(RTSP server address)
<port>: Cameras RTSP port (default :554)
<protocol>: tcp, udp,muticast
<channel>: 0~16
<type>: 0,1,2 (Stream type：0 is main stream,1 is sub stream,2 is mobile stream )
2.3 The following is an example of VLC Media Player.
1) Install VLC Media Player.
2) Run VLC and go to “Tool—Preference”.
P.S.:If using udp or multicast protocol, don’t need to setup step 2) and 3),just use the
default settings of VLC.

3) Go to “Input & Codes” and select “Live555 stream transport RTP over RTSP(TCP)”,then save
settings.
4) Go to “Media---Open Network Stream”

5) Enter your IP Camera RTSP address according to “RTSP Rules” and click “Play”.
6) After a few seconds, live video comes out.
