who is msc?
As our name implies, MSC Cruises is a Mediterranean cruise line. Born in the port village of Piano di Sorrento
at the foot of Vesuvius in the Gulf of Naples – the very heart of the Mediterranean – our lineage is Italian, and
our culture is Mediterranean.
Founded in 1970 with a single shipping vessel, MSC Cruises is the vision and passion of Gianluigi Aponte, himself
a native son of Piano di Sorrento who answered the call of the sea. Today, MSC is one of the world’s largest
shipping lines, and one of the fastest growing cruise lines.

WORLDWIDE LEADER IN CRUISING
The essence of an MSC Cruise is its authenticity.
With such strong ties to the Mediterranean and its varied cultures, we are well suited to deliver a truly immersive
experience.
We serve the world’s most popular cuisines – Italian, French, Mediterranean and more; we pour only the finest
wines – from the hills of Tuscany to the vineyards of Bordeaux; we offer the most enriching spa experiences
– drawing on ancient traditions of the Romans, Greeks and Turks.
Our state-of-the-art ships blend renowned Italian design with the world’s leading-edge technologies.
It is that multi-cultural expertise, coupled with our legendary Italian warmth and hospitality, which makes
MSC Cruises a worldwide leader in cruising.
The ambience aboard each of our 12 ships is one of casual sophistication, attracting an international clientele
that seeks to explore the world with other travellers, not just tourists.
We cater to different cultures with clarity and ease; attended by a multi-lingual staff and crew, and supported
with menus and programmes printed in a variety of languages, too.
Our entertainment engages all guests with high-style Cirque du Soleil-inspired performances, and high-energy
music, dance and song.
WORLDWIDE FAMILY TRAVEL
We remain a privately owned family company, and place great importance on family travel.
While couples will always favour MSC Cruises for our excellent cuisine, service, entertainment and accommodation
– including the privileged exclusivity of the MSC Yacht Club – families love us for our dedicated children’s
facilities, family swimming pools, high-tech entertainment, kid-friendly menus and variety of accommodation
options. So confident are we that an MSC Cruise is the perfect family holiday, we even invite kids to cruise for
free, all year.
MSC Cruises is a classical product, drawing on our strong relationships not just in the Mediterranean, but all
over the world, to create genuine experiences ashore, too. We are a definitive leader in Mediterranean voyages,
but also lead the market in Brazil and South Africa.
We stay ahead of emerging travel trends and are among the first to deploy a ship for an entire season in Abu
Dhabi & The Emirates.
Our global reach takes us to Northern Europe, the Red Sea, the Caribbean and Ocean Voyages.

Travel is about the joy of discovery, and with MSC Cruises our guests are able to relax and absorb every
moment of their holiday, secure in knowing that everything is being taken care of by people who understand
the Mediterranean lifestyle. We are ambassadors of Mediterranean culture around the world – thinking globally,

family and we are committed to providing you with the programs, promotions and tools you need to effectively

on all aspects of your MSC Cruises sales – from the airfare to special onboard packages, shore excursions and
pre- and post-cruise programs. Your success is our success.
While our headquarters are in Geneva, Switzerland and Naples, Italy, our Marine & Technical divisions remain

EXCEPTIONAL DINING
Drawing on our rich Italian heritage, your clients can expect to dine on authentic Italian dishes and regional
specialities, complemented by a delicious variety of international cuisines and continental favourites, all prepared
with expert finesse by our masterful culinary team.
FINE DINING
In the two main restaurants aboard each ship – all serving breakfast, lunch and dinner, dining is an elegant affair
with our renowned seven-course dinner menu featuring a different regional Italian speciality each night. Guests
may also enjoy gourmet à la carte dining aboard our four MSC Musica class ships. MSC Cruises uses only the
finest quality foods, produce and spices, maintaining precise control over the origin of all ingredients, and adopting
an ethical approach to seafood. On every 7 days voyage, your clients will enjoy two Gala Evenings, an elaborate
formal occasion highlighted by the Captain’s Cocktail Party and special gourmet menus in the ship’s main
restaurant. Adding a dash of celebrity to the dining experience, Italy’s own two-star Michelin Chef Mauro Uliassi
creates Signature Dishes for one of the Gala Evenings.
SPECIALITY DINING
From a lively Tex Mex restaurant perfect for the whole family to the more sophisticated Kaito Sushi Bar featuring
a selection of Japanese specialities, alternative dining venues on our MSC Fantasia and MSC Musica class ships allow
your clients diverse dining options for lunch and dinner. Other speciality venues include restaurants offering Asianfusion cuisine, and a Sports Bar serving burgers and barbecue chicken wings with games aired on a big-screen TV,
and the elegant Wine Bar offering renowned international labels, special tastings and a delicious tapas menu.
CASUAL DINING
From the delicious comfort of an impressive Welcome Buffet, to the outrageous decadence of a Midnight culinary
extravaganza, our chefs will tempt the palate of every single guest. Sumptuous, mouth-watering buffets are ideal
for breakfast, lunch and dinner with delectable offerings of made-to-order eggs, a variety of pizzas and home-made
speciality pastas, grilled burgers, traditional kebabs, and so much more. At the Ice Cream Bar on the MSC Fantasia
class ships, guests can indulge in fine Italian pastries, gelatos, coffees and teas. Should they choose to relax in their
stateroom, 24-hour room service is always an option, as is pizza delivery available on MSC Fantasia class and
MSC Musica class ships. For those guests with a more refined sweet tooth, Afternoon Tea is served daily.
MSC YACHT CLUB DINING

inspire a child’s imagination. The friendly, qualified staff knows just how to channel a sense of discovery among our
youngest guests with a fun-packed programme of activities in a safe environment. Here kids can dance at the Baby disco,
play games, watch cartoons, and interact with our magical, musical mascot Do-re-mi who entertains kids every day.
The Juniors’ Club offers non-stop fun and adventure for kids ages 7 to 11. From team games and sports to
pizza parties and junior discos, kids have a great time with new friends. Activities and tournaments take advantage
of the pool and sport areas on board. In their own dedicated area, kids enjoy arts and crafts, play popular board
games and videogames, and even watch cartoons!
The Y-Team Club lets teenagers ages 12 to 14 do their own thing in an area dedicated just for them where
they can spend time with other people their own age. Every day the club organises loads of games and sports
tournaments – or there’s always the option to get connected at the Internet Point, or chill out by the pool and
save energy for the parties and special events every evening. Our MSC Fantasia class ships have a dedicated
teen disco, as well as a Virtual World Arcade and water slide just for them. With MSC Cruises, teens can enjoy
their independence, and parents needn’t worry about where they are.
MSC Generation Teen Club makes it easy for 15 to 17 year olds to get connected with the coolest crew on
board and spend time with other people their age. The teen area really is the place to be: in addition to the
play corner with Xbox and Wii, a musical docking station for iPods, iPhones, iPads and USB readers, and a social
corner connected to Net TV and with Bluetooth keyboards are also available.

THE GREATEST VALUE
MSC Cruises’ extensive variety of suite and cabin types
allows you to tailor the accommodation to your client’s
budget and number of people travelling together.
When helping your clients choose their accommodation,
remember that the lowest fare does not always
represent the greatest value.Your client may be inclined
to think the least expensive accommodation is the best
way to save money, when in fact there are many
variables that need to be considered to create the best
experience at the best price. What types of variables
should you consider?
TRAVELLING
WITH FAMILY & FRIENDS
Perhaps your client is a family or a group of friends
planning a memorable trip. Family travel is one of the
fastest growing segments of the cruise industry, and
MSC Cruises’ ships are ideally suited to cater to the
needs of families of all sizes. Nearly 65% of all
MSC Cruises accommodations are Balcony Cabins.
Comfortably spacious with the benefit of a private
balcony, many offer 3rd and 4th berths, providing an ideal
and affordable option for friends travelling together.
Consider the group of friends thinking an Inside or
Ocean View cabin is their best option to stretch their
vacation money. And then consider the enhanced
experience they are sure to enjoy in a Balcony Cabin
for just a nominally increased fare.
24
VARIABLES TO CONSIDER
• What is your client’s budget?
• How many people are travelling
together?
• Do they want connecting cabins, or
would a suite be more comfortable?
• If a family, how many children? And what
are their ages?
• If a group of friends, do they want
accommodations near each other, or
possibly share a cabin or suite?
BENEFITS FOR FAMILIES
• Kids cruise free in same cabin as parents
• Connecting cabins with kids under 18
(Happy Family fare: 3 adult Cruise Only fares; up
to 2 children pay only child’s port dues)
• Extra cabin with kids under 18
(Tandem fare: kids get own cabin- parents pay
regular quoted fare and reduced rate)
• Up to 3 kids under 18 travelling with 1 adult
(All in One fare: parent pays regular quoted
fare, first child under 18 pays 60% of adult fare,
remaining children pay only port taxes.)
BENEFITS FOR FRIENDS
• Private balcony offers fresh perspectives
on each new port of call; ideal for breakfast
and evening cocktails
• Well-designed layout is spacious and
comfortable
• Open and airy, offering an indulgent connection to the sounds and sights of the sea
• Indulgent, privileged

an ambitious 5.5 billion euro investment programme started in only 2003. By focusing on quality, we have grown
rapidly, building state-of-the-art ships of unrivalled style and elegance.
Our fleet of 12 ships currently carries 1.2 million passengers per year. We are a leader in the Mediterranean
cruise market, sailing the region throughout the year, and we are the number one cruise line in Brazil and South
Africa. Our ships offer a wide range of seasonal itineraries in the Mediterranean, Northern Europe, the Red
Sea, the Caribbean, South Africa, Abu Dhabi and the Emirates, South America and Ocean Voyages.
At the heart of the MSC Cruises experience is the vibrant personality of each ship. We are proud of the unique
blend of craftsmanship, elegance and state-of-the-art design that characterizes all of our cruise ships.

systems such as Advanced Water Treatment and Energy
Saving air-conditioning optimization, MSC Cruises is the
first company to be awarded the prestigious 6 Golden
Pearls by the international classification society Bureau
Veritas for our voluntary compliance with the three
highest international standards in environment, health
and safety, and food safety.

FINDING YOUR MSC CLIENT
Cruising is the fastest-growing segment of the travel industry. According to Cruise Lines International Association
(CLIA), a US-based agency that promotes and tracks the global cruise industry, total worldwide cruise passengers
in 2010 reached nearly 15 million – more than a 2,100% growth since 1970.
Finding Your MSC Client will help you take advantage of this growing market. Take a look at these facts and
statistics from a June 2011 CLIA study:
• 94% of cruise travellers describe their holiday as a highly satisfying vacation
• 45% of cruise travellers are extremely satisfied
• 90% of cruise holidays are booked through a travel agent
• Many travellers research vacations on their own, but turn to an agent to make the final arrangements
• 77% of past cruisers express significant interest in taking another cruise
• 50% of non-cruisers show interest in taking a cruise within the next three years
• A cruise is still viewed as a special holiday and averages 4 ½ months of planning
This high rate of satisfaction leads to a growing interest in cruising and repeat business for you.
In Finding Your MSC Client, MSC Cruises will help you take advantage of this growing market.

114
FINDING YOUR MSC CLIENT
WHO ARE MSC CRUISES
CLIENTS?
As with any type of holiday, not all cruises are the same...
and certainly each client is different, too.The beauty of
a holiday with MSC Cruises is that our fleet of 12 ships
is one of the youngest and most sophisticated in the
entire cruise industry, offering your clients exceptional
choice – and you greater sales options.
START BY ASKING
• Who are my clients? Are they couples,
families, seniors, adventure-takers, groups,
luxury travellers?
• What do they like to do? Are they
adventurous? Spa-goers? History-buffs?
• Where do they like to travel?
• Have they already taken a cruise?
FIRST-TIME CRUISERS
The most important aspect of converting a first-time cruiser is addressing their apprehensions honestly and
convincingly. Remember, a first-time cruiser could be any type of client.
WILL I GET SEASICK?
The stabilization features of MSC Cruises’ sophisticated vessels practically eliminate the possibility of seasickness.
Suggest that your clients start with a shorter MSC cruise, and if all goes well, book a longer one next time.
WILL I BE BORED?
List and describe the activities and entertainment available onboard and the large choice and variety of shore
excursions. A key point of differentiation for MSC Cruises is our port-intensive itineraries – offering a new
destination to explore nearly every day of the voyage.
WILL I BE UNCOMFORTABLE IN A SMALL CABIN?
Here’s the ideal opportunity to sell up! Suggest a balcony cabin or a suite for extra room.
WILL I BE SAFE?
A cruise is among the safest ways to travel. All MSC Cruises ships are designed with emergency safety systems,
commanded by Captains with extensive sailing experience and attended by a crew that performs weekly safety
drills. All guests receive a safety brief upon embarkation and perform a safety drill within the first 24 hours.
115
FINDING YOUR MSC CLIENT
HOLIDAY COUPLE
The biggest cruise audience continues to be couples with an average age of about 46 years. These are the
holiday seekers and they are likely in your office or on the phone to your agency every day. They are flexible
in their travel dates, they look for great value, and they want lots of options in dining and entertainment. Above
all, they want to have fun. Naturally, honeymooners represent an important part of this market segment, too.
Highlight the following for Holiday Couples:
• Variety of accommodations, from generously appointed Balcony and Ocean View cabins to the more opulent
Suites of the MSC Yacht Club, there is a perfect option for every client and travel budget
• Emphasise value and benefits of a winter itinerary – fewer crowds, same exceptional experience
• Ships designed for year-round cruising feature covered swimming pool
• Position vacation as a rejuvenating getaway at the MSC Aurea Spa
• Consider Celebration Fares for milestone occasions such as Honeymoons and Anniversaries – including
special 25th and 50th anniversaries
• Recommend MSC Cruises’ special packages to enhance their travels, from Drink and Shore Excursion plans
to Special Moments, Welcome Gifts, Onboard Ceremonies and Relaxation (spa) packages
• List the extensive options for entertainment, day and night
• Highlight the variety of dining, from gourmet à al carte speciality dining, to quick bites on the go and 24-hour
room service
SOPHISTICATED COUPLE
Let’s say a sophisticated couple, both busy career professionals without children, visits your agency seeking
advice for a much-needed holiday. Do you remember the questions you should ask first? You find out that
they want time to relax, but also enjoy being active – both follow a committed exercise routine. They are very
cultured, and typically dine later in the evening and enjoy late-night dancing and entertainment. Which
MSC Cruises services and amenities would you highlight for this couple? We suggest the following:
• The supreme luxury of a Balcony Suite, or the exclusivity of an MSC Yacht Club Deluxe Suite also with
private balcony, plus 24-hour butler service and direct lift access to the MSC Aurea Spa
• Open-seating, gourmet dining in exclusive MSC Yacht Club restaurant, plus flexible options to dine at other
speciality restaurants on board
• State-of-the-art Fitness Centre with aerobic, yoga and Pilates classes, weight training and specialised instruction
• Destination-rich itineraries to historic destinations; see it all, but unpack just once
• Sophisticated ambience of dedicated MSC Yacht Club pool; ideal for relaxing
• Late-night dancing and casino gaming

FAMILY & FRIENDS
The variety of options and flexibility of schedules offered aboard an MSC cruise make it an ideal option for
multi-generational family travel, an increasingly popular option for reunions, anniversaries and other milestone
occasions. Perhaps you have a client preparing to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. They want to take
their three children – and their spouses and kids, too – on a very special holiday. This multi-generational family
group consists of 4 adult couples, and 7 children. There’s a possibility other family friends may join them as well.
They must travel in summer to accommodate school schedules. Review these highlights to see how MSC Cruises
offers the perfect holiday for the multi-generational family:
• An MSC Yacht Club suite is perfect for the anniversary couple – treat themselves to the exclusivity and
pampering attention of dedicated butler
• Kids cruise free all year!
• Special family fare and wide variety of accommodation options to suit every budget
• Multiple dining options for formal celebratory occasions or quick bites on-the-go
• Customised excursions ashore, coordinated by MSC Yacht Club staff or ship’s Concierge

MSC Cruises is ideally suited to the varied needs and interests of group travel. Affinity travel – people who
share a common interest in anything from food and wine to ballroom dance, golf and more – is a great way
to develop your group business. Imagine you have a group of 15 people, part of a poker association, who want
to organise a trip to play a special game. For this type of client, think of special amenities and activities that
would appeal to the group’s interests:
• Private games and events may be held in the Card Room
• As a group interested in gaming, they will likely enjoy the Casino, too
• Special group fares and value-added amenities
• Special pricing for group shore excursions
• Wide variety of dining and entertainment offerings to appeal to each person in group
• Ability to arrange special group dinners

key points
HOW DO I START?
Start by asking:
•Who are my clients? Are they couples, families, seniors, adventure-takers, groups, luxury travellers?
•What do they like to do? Are they adventurous? Spa-goers? History-buffs?
•Where do they like to travel?
•Have they already taken a cruise?
first-time cruisers
Common first-time cruiser concerns and how to respond:
I’ll get seasick
•The stabilization features of MSC Cruises’s sophisticated vessels practically eliminate the possibility of
seasickness. Suggest that your clients start with a shorter MSC cruise, and if all goes well, book a longer
one next time.
I’ll be bored
•List and describe the activities and entertainment available onboard and the large choice and variety
of shore excursions. A key point of differentiation for MSC Cruises is our port-intensive itineraries –
offering a new destination to explore nearly every day of the voyage.
I’ll go crazy in a small cabin
•Here’s the ideal opportunity to sell up! Suggest a balcony cabin or a suite for extra room.
HOLIDAY COUPLE

opulent Suites of the MSC Yacht Club, there is a perfect option for every client and travel budget

special 25th and 50th anniversaries

plans to Special Moments, Welcome Gifts, Onboard Ceremonies and Relaxation (spa) packages
