Formerly called the Sacramentary, it is used by the priest at the altar and the chair and by the deacon in celebrations which he leads. The Latin edition of the Roman Missal was published in 1970 and a second, slightly revised edition in 1985. The preparation for the 1985 edition involved world-wide consultation. In the end, the 1985 revision was much less extensive than originally planned, largely because it became clear that the revision required was more complex than originally anticipated. The preparation of the new Roman Missal has benefited both from the work done in preparation for the 1985 edition, and the experience of the almost twenty years since that edition was promulgated. Another reason which motivates the preparation of the new Roman Missal involves changes in the liturgical calendar. Since the first revised Roman calendar was issued in 1970 and updated in the 1985 second edition of the Missal, many new saints have been added to the liturgical calendar. The prayers of these saints, having been presented in Latin, must also be translated July 3, 2011 into the vernacular; and, those on the Universal Calendar incorporated into the new Roman Missal. This whole process enriches the Church with many new models in the faith, but it also takes time and effort, and is one of the reasons that the preparation of the Missal has taken so long. Next Week: What’s New in the People’s parts? SCHOOL REGISTRATION OLPH School is currently accepting applications from qualified students for the 2010 school year. If you are interested in information or to set an appointment for an interview please call the school at 738-5158. SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND The annual National Black and Indian Mission Collection, which has been taken up in parishes across the nation for more than twenty-five years, enables the Church in the United states to provide desperately required pastoral, educational and spiritual assistance to some of the neediest of our brothers and sisters in the Lord. From the inner-cities of the rural south to the deserts of the southwest to the wilderness of Alaska, grants from the annual appeal make it possible for the Church to assist our Black and Indian Catholic communities. Here in the archdiocese, we receive grants twice per year that are applied to Black parishes in Harlem and the Bronx, making it possible for them to serve their parishioners much more than they could on their own. 461-OLPH The Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Monday, July 4 8:00 AM - Jessie & Matthew Adinolfi 9:00 AM - Joseph & Mary Chiappetta Tuesday, July 5 8:00 AM - Mazzariello & Castellano Families 9:00 AM - Elizabeth & Salvatore Naclerio Wednesday, July 6 8:00 AM - Lackner Family 9:00 AM - Donald Gorman Thursday, July 7 8:00 AM - Nestor & Luz Ocasio (living) 9:00 AM - Kay O’Brien Friday, July 8 8:00 AM - Alcade & Loisa Sprecace 9:00 AM - Kathryn Tully Saturday, July 9 8:00 PM - Ettore Bastone 9:00 PM - Kathryn Tully Second Time Kevin Sorhaindo & Jaime Jones Joseph Rella & Kristin Zollo Nicholas Triscari & Jessica Locatelli Frank Miceli, Jr & Christina Paveglio 2011-2012 Religious Education Program Please note we are in the process of registration for new students in grades k-8.
