Erasmus Intensive Program “Spin-Electronics & Applications” – SPEA Manual 21
Erasmus Intensive Program “Spin-Electronics & Applications” – SPEA Manual 21st of July – 1st of August 2014 Chania, Crete, Greece Department of Electronic Engineering, School of Applied Sciences, Technological Educational Institute of Crete (it is strongly suggested to print this manual prior to your arrival in SPEA venue) composed by Dr Kostas Petridis http://spea2014.chania.teicrete.gr 1 Welcome We are happy to welcome you to Chania and to the Erasmus Intensive Program (IP) “Spin – Electronics & Applications” – SPEA 2014 hosted by the Department of Electronic Engineering of School of Applied Sciences of the Technological Educational Institute of Crete in Greece. The TEI of Crete coordinates this Intensive Program. Partners in this SPEA 2014 are the following Universities: University of Cyprus, University of Regensburg, University of Surrey, Bilkent University, University of Warsaw, University of Crete and University of Istanbul. Spintronics or spin electronics is an emerging technology that exploits the intrinsic spin of the electron and involves the study of the active control and manipulation of spin degrees of freedom in solid-state systems in addition to its fundamental electronic charge. The SPEA objective is to give a first introduction of this emerging technology to final year undergraduate students from Physics, Electronic Engineering and Materials Science Departments. We hope that the multinational environment, the wide range of talks & topics and presentations from fundamental aspects of 2 magnetism & quantum mechanics to spin electronics applications, will inspire you. We hope that the IP manual will answer many of your possible questions and will make your stay in Chania more comfortable. In any case please do not hesitate to contact with Dr Petridis and one of the assistant students to answer your questions.
