Spring is here once again, and
with it comes the annual season
of exhibitions.
Already we’ve had the London
Excel event, and this month it’s
the turn of BeautyUK to
showcase all that is new and
exciting in the world of
professional beauty. May is Scotland’s turn to
shine as Scottish Beauty returns to Edinburgh,
followed by Olympia Beauty in London.
I am always impressed by the excitement felt by
visitors who attend exhibitions. Last year’s
BeautyUK created a real buzz, as I’m sure this
year’s will, as thousands of salon owners discover
all that is new and thrilling in our industry today.

in February as the salon, together with sunless
tanning range Xen-Tan, raised £337 at its

charity Help A Local Child.
Between Wednesday 13th February and
Saturday 16th February over 30 customers paid

ith the holiday season upon us, many

clients will be heading towards their
nearest indoor tanning salon to gain a
good base tan before they leave for sunnier climes;
but while some of these clients may prefer to have a
course of Sunshower sessions, others will be
looking to recreate the feeling of lying on a beach
with a lie-down bed.
Using a lie-down unit offers an entirely different tanning
experience to stepping into a VTU as it gives your client the
opportunity to close their eyes and switch off for a while. In
addition, some horizontal tanning units allow the user to switch
off the facial tubes to concentrate on the lower extremities,
which have been kept under wraps throughout the bleak winter
months.
Whatever your client’s preference, you need to ensure that you
are doing everything in your power to encourage them to tan
sensibly. This means you should have documentation on hand
to explain the effects of UV tanning to your clients, the number
of recommended sessions per year, the importance of wearing
eye protection and how to check for any changes in moles.
How low can you go . . .
Another way you can help to instil client confidence and
encourage safer tanning is to update your tubes in accordance
with the Low Voltage Directive (LVD). The new ruling, which
came into effect last July, states the maximum erythemalweighted irradiance of a new sunbed should not exceed 0.3
W/m2 and any sunbed emitting an irradiance level above this is
deemed to be unsafe.
“This is applicable now to all sunbeds being traded or supplied
and sunbed manufacturers / suppliers not meeting the
requirements of the Declaration are at risk of prosecution under
the UK Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 1994. For all
existing sunbeds in service on the market, the government has
said it will announce its intentions in due course,” says Kathy
Banks, Chief Executive of The Sunbed Association (TSA).

strawberry aroma, Exfoliating Bodywash

gently remove dead skin cells whilst microdermabrasion crystals smooth the skin in

He-Shi Soufflé Moisturiser is used after
tanning to rehydrate skin for a smoother
and softer looking complexion. He-Shi
