Introduction The Smappee monitor is a device that measures the energy consumption of your electrical appliances with one sensor close to the fuse box. The sensor is clamped around the mains cable and records the energy use. The various devices are recognized by their energy signature or the electrical traces they leave. If you have solar panels, you can also use the Smappee monitor to measure the energy generated. The Smappee monitor is installed close to the fuse box. It then starts measuring your energy consumption and the yield of your solar panels as well as communicating with your smartphone or tablet. The Smappee app gives you direct insight in your energy consumption, energy costs and the yield of your solar panels. To save on energy costs and contribute to a greener environment, you can take on energy guzzlers and standby power. This manual describes the installation of the Smappee monitor. All information about the WiFi configuration of the Smappee monitor and the use of the Smappee app can be found in the Smappee user manual. There are two options for the connection: 1. Single phase without solar panels 2. Single phase with solar panels Attention! Before you can connect the Smappee monitor you must first connect it to your WiFi network as described in the Smappee user manual . For the connection you need: The Smappee monitor. The power cord and the current clamp(s) supplied with the monitor. For more information, s www.smappee.com/us/support Page 4 of 9 Installations with Single Phase The following instructions describe the installation steps for single phase households without solar power. Preconditions: You have successfully connected your Smappee monitor to your Wi-Fi network (you see a green heartbeat). Steps 1. Switch the power off to your home using the main breaker. This is usually the largest switch in your meter cabinet. 2. Install the current transformers (CT) on the mains cables as shown below. Please pay attention to the direction : L needs to point towards the fuse box. Page 5 of 9 3. Now connect the two ends of the CT in port 1 & 3 of Smappee. Result is shown below. 4. Switch the power to your home back on. 5. Plug the Smappee power cable into the nearest available power outlet and wait until Smappee shows, again, the green heartbeat. Note: A red light is an indication of a weak Wi-Fi signal. 6. You can now get started with your smartphone app Page 6 of 9 Installations with Solar Power The following instructions describe the installation steps for households with solar power (single phase). Preconditions: You have successfully connected your Smappee monitor to your Wi-Fi network (you see a green heartbeat). Steps 1. Switch the power off to your home using the main breaker. This is usually the largest switch in your meter cabinet. 2. Disconnect the power supply of your solar panels. 3. Install the current transformers (CT) on the mains cables in opposite direction of each other: one CT, L, points towards the fuse box, the other CT, L, points towards the utility meter. Remark! On the drawings below the CT twice points towards the same direction, but the drawings have been included to clarify the explanation. Page 7 of 9 Click both ends of the CT in the Y cable. Make sure the lock is in the correct direction Now put the Y cable coming from the Mains on input 1. Install the CT’s on the cables from the Solar inverter in a similar way on the CT’s on the mains cables. Mount 2 CT’s in the Y cable and put the Y cable coming from the Solar panels on input 2 of the Smappee. Mains Solar 4. Switch the power back on. 5. Plug the Smappee power cable into the nearest available power outlet and wait until Smappee shows, again, the green heartbeat. Note: A red light is an indication of a weak Wi-Fi signal. 6. You can now get started with the Smappee App as described in the Smappee user manual.
