Court Interpreter 2 – Master Level 3 – Mastery Employees at this level interpret complex legal proceedings and translate forms, letters and other court-related documents MINIMUM SALARY: $61,869* MAXIMUM SALARY A: $87,854** MAXIMUM SALARY B: $83,461** MINIMUM SALARY: $65,581* MAXIMUM SALARY A: $98,991** MAXIMUM SALARY B: $94,041** POSITION DESCRIPTION The New Jersey Judiciary is seeking a detailed oriented professional to work as a Court Interpreter 1/2. Under the direction of the General Operations Division Manager and the Administrative Supervisor 2, the successful candidate must be able to interpret in the three modes of interpretation (sight, consecutive, and simultaneous) in high-profile trials or complex court and legal proceedings, quasi-judicial hearings, complementary dispute resolution events, and other court related events in person or via a telecommunication device. The qualified candidate will be able to produce translations of documents such as official forms, public signs, notices, posters, form letters, correspondence, and courtrelated documents. The candidate will also be able to mentor interpreter interns and conditionally-approved/trainee interpreters. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to collecting and entering data into automated recordkeeping systems, participating in study and training activities in a group or individually in order to develop and maintain interpreting and translating skills. The successful candidate must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with all levels of Judiciary staff. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS – SPOKEN LANGUAGE TESTING: All applicants must demonstrate a language and skill proficiency consistent with the level of the position based on the performance tests administered by the New Jersey Administrative Office of the Courts or an equivalent test by a member of the Consortium for State Court Interpreter Certification; or possess the Court Interpreter Certification from the Administrative Office of the United States Courts. NOTE: For additional information on becoming a Court Interpreter refer to www.judiciary.state.nj.us/interpreters/intro.htm AUTHORIZATION TO WORK: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations. SPECIAL NOTE: Newly hired employees must agree to a thorough background check that will include fingerprinting. RESIDENCY LAW: Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), also known as the “New Jersey First Act,” all persons newly hired by the Judiciary must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. For current Judiciary employees, salary upon promotion or advancement will be an increase of 5% of base salary or the minimum salary of the band/level, whichever is greater. **Maximum Salary A is for Judiciary employees hired prior to June 3, 2014 and Maximum Salary B is for newly hired individuals or Judiciary employees hired on or after June 3, 2014.
